Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 101 Exploring the Root Cause, Perilous Situations
The base's gates were wide open, revealing a scene of utter chaos. Experimental equipment lay scattered everywhere, and the air reeked of pungent chemicals. Several experimental beasts lay on the ground, barely alive, emitting low whimpers. My heart sank; a sense of foreboding washed over me.
"careful!"
Su Yao's voice came from behind me. I turned around abruptly and saw a huge mammoth with bloodshot eyes charging towards us.
Its fur stood on end, and it let out low growls, as if it had lost its mind.
I immediately released my beast-taming aura in an attempt to calm it down, but it was not affected at all and instead charged at me even more violently.
"Get out of the way!"
I yelled and pulled Su Yao aside. The mammoth crashed heavily into the wall with a deafening roar, causing the wall to collapse instantly, sending debris flying everywhere.
"What exactly happened here?"
Looking at the chaotic scene before me, I was filled with doubt. Just then, I noticed a figure huddled in a corner, trembling.
I walked over and found a researcher wearing a white lab coat, who was none other than Researcher Zhao, whom I had met a few times before.
"Researcher Zhao, what happened here? Why did the beasts go out of control?"
I asked in a low voice. Researcher Zhao raised his head, his face pale, his lips trembling, unable to speak for a long time. His eyes flickered, as if he was hiding something from us.
I took a deep breath and released an even stronger beast-taming aura, calming down the remaining experimental beasts in the base.
They gradually calmed down under my breath, and their eyes regained their clarity.
I gently stroked their heads, trying to establish a spiritual connection with them and glean some information from them.
Sure enough, fragments of memories remained in the memories of these tamed beasts. They seemed to have been injected with some kind of drug, after which they lost control and became ferocious.
I passed this information to Su Yao, who frowned, clearly realizing the seriousness of the situation.
The beast tamers around me were filled with admiration when they saw how easily I could calm these out-of-control beasts.
They were initially suspicious of me, an outsider beast tamer, but now they have complete trust in me.
"Researcher Zhao, is there anything else you'd like to say?"
I looked at Researcher Zhao again, my tone carrying a hint of warning. He remained silent, head bowed, his body trembling even more violently.
I noticed that he was clutching a test tube tightly in his hand, which contained some pale blue liquid.
I reached out to take the test tube, but he suddenly hid it behind his back, his eyes filled with fear... Researcher Zhao cowered, his eyes darting around, like a frightened rabbit.
He gripped the test tube tightly, his knuckles turning white.
“I…I don’t know anything! I’m just an ordinary…researcher…” he stammered, his voice barely audible.
"Researcher Zhao, now is not the time to hide anything. The situation of the beasts going out of control is getting more and more serious. If we don't find the cause as soon as possible, the consequences will be unimaginable!"
I raised my voice, trying to make him understand the seriousness of the matter.
The surrounding beast tamers echoed this sentiment, their beasts stirring restlessly, foreshadowing an even greater danger to come.
Su Yao stood beside me, one hand gently resting on my shoulder. I felt the warmth of her palm, a surge of warmth coursing through my body.
I turned to look at her; her eyes were firm, full of trust and encouragement. I knew that no matter what happened, she would face it with me.
“Really…really it wasn’t me…” Researcher Zhao kept repeating this sentence, his eyes darting around, avoiding my gaze.
"I was just... following the instructions... to conduct the experiment..."
"Instructions from above? Whose instructions were these?"
I pressed him for an answer. He shook his head violently, his body trembling even more violently.
"I can't say... they'll kill me if I do..." He clutched his head, groaning in pain.
I sighed inwardly; it seemed unlikely I could get any useful information out of him. He was completely consumed by fear, and even if he knew the truth, he wouldn't dare to speak it.
I clenched my fists, a sense of powerlessness welling up inside me.
“Nong Yu,” Su Yao’s voice rang in my ears, “Don’t worry, we will definitely find the truth.”
Her voice was gentle yet firm, like a clear spring washing away the restlessness in my heart. I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
Now is not the time to be discouraged; I must find another way to unravel the mystery of the beasts going out of control. I looked around, my gaze falling on the experimental equipment.
Perhaps I can find some clues from these instruments. I began to carefully examine the experimental equipment scattered on the ground, hoping to find some traces.
Su Yao joined me, carefully observing every detail and not letting go of any suspicious point.
Time ticked by, and we still hadn't found any useful clues.
Researcher Zhao huddled in the corner like a lamb to the slaughter, his eyes vacant, as if he had given up hope.
Suddenly, I sensed an unusual aura, a powerful and violent one. I abruptly raised my head and looked towards the base gate.
"not good!"
I growled, "Something's coming!"
Upon hearing my words, Researcher Zhao's face turned even paler. He looked up in terror, his eyes filled with despair.
I grabbed his collar and demanded sharply, "Who is it? Who's pulling the strings behind all this?"
He opened his mouth, as if wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing. He simply pointed tremblingly towards the base gate, his eyes filled with terror… “They…are here…”
