Even hybrid monsters have their day
Chapter 42 Stay
Song Gan said to her, "Miss, you must be tired from your journey. You should rest well, but I am eager to know what happened, so I disturbed your peace early in the morning."
Geng Miaowan was surprised that Song Gan, as the leader of a sect, was so humble and kind, and she felt a little embarrassed. She smiled and said, "I didn't have anything to do anyway, so I'd like to finish my business as soon as possible so I can go back sooner."
Song Gan nodded and introduced them to her. The elderly man with a blue beard sitting on his left was his eldest junior brother, Zou Kui, while the younger one on the other side was his second junior brother, Yin Qianze. After Geng Miaowan greeted them one by one, she recounted everything she knew, causing the three people in the hall to tense up.
"You mean that the thousand-year-old sand crawler demon came out of Buzhou Mountain?" Zou Kui asked.
"That's right. According to Master Peng, he followed the trail all the way from Buzhou Mountain."
"How could this be? Could it be..." Yin Qianze looked at Song Gan, but didn't finish her sentence.
Song Gan was also shocked. He quickly summoned a disciple and ordered him to bring Da Shan and Er Shan to the hall. Song Gan carefully examined the two of them, then had them taken away. He nodded gravely to Zou Kui and Yin Qianze, "They were indeed possessed by demonic energy."
"Demonic energy?" Geng Miaowan was also surprised. Wasn't it said that the sand crawler demon cultivated on the immortal mountain of Buzhou? How could there be demonic energy?
Upon hearing her speak, the three men remembered her presence in the hall. They exchanged glances with varying expressions before pretending nothing was amiss and returning to their seats. However, Geng Miaowan keenly sensed that the three old men were being evasive, indicating that something was definitely amiss. But since they wouldn't speak, she didn't press the matter.
After that, Song Gan never mentioned the demonic energy again. Instead, in front of her, he arranged for Dashan and Ershan to become disciples of his eldest disciple, Miao Renfeng. As the chief disciple of the Green Mountain Sect's leader, Miao Renfeng was the most likely successor to the position of sect leader. Anyone wishing to become his disciple would have to undergo rigorous testing.
Yet Song Gan treated them so well, allowing the two children to become Miao Renfeng's students, simply because of a letter from Peng Yuxian. This showed that his respect for Peng Yuxian had reached an unbelievable level. This made Geng Miaowan somewhat curious about Peng Yuxian's identity.
After arranging the children's accommodations, Song Gan asked, "I wonder what Miss Geng's plans are next?"
Geng Miaowan tilted her head and remembered. She had originally planned to find a quiet place after descending the mountain and have Xiaobai guard her so she could improve her cultivation. But Xiaobai didn't have much cultivation right now. It could only hold off one or two ordinary people, but if it encountered a powerful monster, who knew who would fight whom? If it got distracted, it could lose all its cultivation at best, or even suffer a qi deviation and lose its life.
Although she is only at the Qi Refining stage, she still cherishes it very much.
With that thought in mind, she glanced at the Green Pine Hall and the three people sitting there with a hint of amusement. Little White's protection was nowhere near as effective as the entire Green Mountain Sect.
Thinking of this, she stood up, bowed, and said, "I have a favor to ask."
Her gaze just now sent chills down Song Gan's spine. Song Gan feigned composure and said, "Speak freely."
"It's like this, I originally planned to go down the mountain to find a quiet place to improve my cultivation after sending the child away, but when I arrived at Haiyu Peak, I found that the spiritual energy here is extremely rich. If I could improve here, it would definitely be of great benefit to my cultivation. Therefore, I would like to stay at your esteemed place for a few days. Is that alright?"
Song Gan had expected her to make some earth-shattering request, but upon hearing that it was so simple, he couldn't help but laugh at his own suspicions. He chuckled twice and said, "What are you saying, young lady? If you like, why not stay here to cultivate? I will have Feng'er arrange a quiet place for you in a moment so that you can concentrate on your cultivation."
Although his words seemed to be a veiled invitation for her to join the Green Mountain Sect, Geng Miaowan didn't think much of it. After receiving his approval, she took her leave. Song Gan didn't try to stop her, simply telling her to speak up if she needed anything.
After leaving the main hall, Geng Miaowan did not go directly back to her residence. Instead, she went to a corner of a corridor not far from the hall, called over Xiaobai, and instructed it, "Go and keep an eye on things over there in the main hall. I want to see what they are hiding. They're being so mysterious."
Without saying a word, Xiaobai ran towards the hall. She didn't forget to tell it in her mind to be careful and not to be discovered by those old men.
After returning to her room, she wrote a letter and asked a disciple to take it to Qiu Pi at the inn at the foot of the mountain, telling him not to wait for her any longer. She explained that she had other matters to attend to and would be staying at the Green Mountain Sect for a few more days.
A short while later, Miao Renfeng arrived with several disciples. He first bowed to her before explaining his purpose. It turned out that he was on Song Gan's orders to take her to the back mountain top, a very quiet place where few disciples usually went, ensuring that her secluded cultivation would not be disturbed.
Then he had his disciple lead her to her residence on the summit of the back mountain.
To Geng Miaowan, the place, though called a dwelling, was more like a cave. It was carved into the mountainside, and inside were all the necessities—tables, chairs, beds, and other living items—all made of natural stone. Although the place was simple, she could sense that the spiritual energy here was indeed much denser than at the Green Pine Palace, showing that the old man Song Gan hadn't been just going through the motions.
Outside the house is a flat area, with a cliff on one side. Looking into the distance, clouds and mist swirl around the peaks, making them appear and disappear – the scenery is absolutely beautiful. Even without practicing cultivation, just looking at the view here every day would be a truly refreshing experience.
Because she and Xiaobai had a soul contract, they were connected spiritually. As long as the distance wasn't ridiculously far, they could sense each other. So she wasn't worried that it wouldn't be able to find her even after she moved to the top of Haiyu Peak.
In the afternoon, Xiaobai finally arrived at the summit. As soon as Geng Miaowan saw it, she quickly carried it inside and asked, "How was it? Did they say anything after I left?"
Xiao Bai jumped from her arms onto the table, looked at her seriously, and said, "Girl, something big is about to happen."
"Ah, what's the matter?"
Xiao Bai suddenly changed her tone, "Actually, it has nothing to do with us."
Geng Miaowan's face stiffened, and she turned to sit down in the chair, facing it directly. "What is it? Stop keeping me in suspense..."
So Xiaobai told him everything he had heard.
