A typical case of forgetting the pain once the wound has healed.

"I can't eat solid food." As he said this, Peng Yuxian vomited on the ground again.

Geng Miaowan then realized that what she had vomited on the ground was basically the food she had eaten at the table earlier. "How could this be? I saw Qiu Pi eat it all." She had eaten at the same table with Qiu Pi several times, and he had never shown any abnormalities.

“I don’t know either. He’s a bit different from us.” Peng Yuxian took the tissue she handed him and wiped his mouth. “He has much greater strength than us, and a near-perfect body.”

"Why is it different? Aren't you all vampires? What do you mean by 'you people'? Who are you people?" His words raised many questions for her, but he didn't seem to want to answer them.

He straightened up, and for the first time, a somewhat apologetic smile appeared on his face, a mixture of self-deprecation, sadness, resentment, and so on—so complex that she couldn't understand it. But he quickly reverted to his usual cynical demeanor.

If Geng Miaowan hadn't been absolutely certain she had seen it, she would have thought she was mistaken.

“Excuse me, I’m not some kind-hearted person who’s going to satisfy your curiosity here.” Peng Yuxian raised an eyebrow and stepped back. “I’m leaving now, little girl. Next time, if you want me to answer your questions, be prepared to shed your blood.”

After saying that, he leaped backward and ran quickly into the night.

"Don't go, explain yourself!" Geng Miaowan shouted, and inexplicably chased after him.

Peng Yuxian's temper was unpredictable; who knew if she would be able to see him so easily next time? Unconsciously, she followed him out of the city and into a secluded suburb.

Geng Miaowan felt that her cultivation level seemed to have improved again, because when she was chasing Peng Yuxian, she did not lose him, and she could even vaguely feel that the distance between them was shortening.

But after a few minutes, she realized that it wasn't her speed that had increased, but rather Peng Yuxian's speed that had decreased. Until he could take no more steps, he staggered and nearly fell to the ground. He shifted his position several times before finally kneeling on the ground.

From behind, his body was heaving violently, and it might even be convulsing.

"what happened to you?"

"Don't come any closer!" He shouted, stopping Geng Miaowan's steps forward. His voice, usually bright, was low and hoarse. He tried to stand up again, and after several failed attempts, he finally managed to stand up unsteadily and take difficult steps forward.

However, Geng Miaowan was never an obedient person, especially not to someone she didn't like. The moment he sensed someone approaching from behind, her hand grabbed his. "Even if you're going to leave, you should at least explain yourself!"

With her mind filled with those questions, Geng Miaowan completely forgot that the person in front of her was the vampire she feared, the dangerous individual who had almost drained the blood from her body.

The sensation in her hand made her look down involuntarily, and a withered, almost skeletal hand came into view. "How... how could this be..."

Geng Miaowan was utterly shocked. She had seen Peng Yuxian's hands before, and not only had she seen them, but she had also felt the sensation of his touch on her skin many times. His hands were long and slender, fair and smooth, and when they touched her neck, the touch was delicate and gentle.

It was definitely not like the dry, withered mummy we see now, which looks like it has been drained of all its moisture.

Peng Yuxian tried to pull his hand back, but he failed twice, which was very unusual. Geng Miaowan grabbed his hand and pulled him sharply in front of her, her eyes meeting his face.

She cried out in surprise and let go of his hand, so forcefully that she threw Peng Yuxian to the ground.

His face, like his hands, was withered and emaciated. There was no color in his face; his once full and firm skin was gone, replaced by wrinkled skin like old tree bark, hanging loosely on his head. His two eyeballs were sunken in deep sockets, as if someone had placed two marbles there, making him look extremely out of place.

And the playful smile that she hated was no longer on her lips.

"Scared, aren't you?" Peng Yuxian said coldly, his low, hoarse voice carrying a self-mockery he himself didn't realize. He tried to get up from the ground again and again, "Didn't I tell you not to come any closer!"

"You...how did you become like this..." Geng Miaowan slowly approached him, took his hand, and tried to help him up, but he shook her off. She took two steps back in a daze, and something suddenly flashed through her mind, "Could it be because you ate human food?"

"You actually ate human food!" A voice suddenly came from behind, startling Geng Miaowan so much that she jumped to the side. Immediately afterward, a figure swiftly swept over and stopped in front of Peng Yuxian. Looking at him, her eyes were full of confusion and reproach. "Are you crazy! Luckily I was nearby, otherwise no one would have collected your body if you died."

"With you here, what am I afraid of?" Peng Yuxian said to him in a relaxed tone. It's not hard to see from this way of getting along that the two have an extraordinary relationship.

This person was his good friend, Ji Hongzhang.

Ji Hongzhang wasn't exaggerating at all. What might be delicious to humans was, to vampires like them, far more poisonous than poison itself. The substances in the food would destroy their digestive systems, and without prompt medical attention, it would be certain death.

As he spoke, he took a syringe from the box he was carrying and drew some unidentified liquid from a bottle, then injected it into the patient.

Ji Hongzhang kept his back to Geng Miaowan, so she couldn't see his face or expression. However, it wasn't hard to hear the deep concern he had for Peng Yuxian in his words.

Geng Miaowan watched as the man skillfully performed all of this, then injected something into his body. She asked Peng Yuxian, somewhat puzzled, "Since you knew eating those dishes would be dangerous for you, why did you still eat them?"

Peng Yuxian looked up at her, a hint of mockery flashing in his two marble-like eyes. Geng Miaowan thought she must be seeing things; how could there be mockery in marbles? "You look terrified. If you don't eat some food soon, I'm afraid you'll be scared out of your wits." (To be continued.)
