Lu Fangtong turned to look at her. She didn't know why she had called him over. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Um... if you don't mind, I can take care of Shuai Shuai while you're away on your business trip. That way, he won't miss his school classes."

Actually, there weren't many classes in the kindergarten, but for some reason, Geng Miaowan felt she couldn't let them leave like that. She had always wanted to see how Lu Shuaishuai behaved at home, and this was a golden opportunity.

Lu Fangtong was taken aback by her sudden remark and momentarily forgot how to react.

She looked at Lu Fangtong and saw the astonishment on his face. She suddenly realized that she was practically a stranger to him, and that saying such a thing was too rash. Besides, Shuai Shuai was still a child; no one would easily entrust their child to someone they didn't know well. She smiled somewhat apologetically and said, "I'm sorry, I was too presumptuous. I just felt that given Shuai Shuai's current situation, staying with his grandmother might not be suitable..."

“I know you’re a good teacher and very kind to Shuai Shuai,” Lu Fangtong interrupted before she could finish, “but… wouldn’t this be too much trouble for you?”

"It's okay, I like Shuai Shuai too anyway." Geng Miaowan's smile always had a magical power to convince people.

Lu Fangtong's home was not far from the kindergarten; it only took about ten minutes by car. After bringing Lu Shuaishuai and Geng Miaowan home, he took a few pieces of clothing from the room and gave them to her, saying that Jiang Lan had bought them some time ago but hadn't worn them yet. He also told her that there were blankets in the closet in the guest room and that she should make her own bed.

Then he hurriedly packed a few clothes, said thank you and other things to her, and left.

Seeing that the large courtyard house would soon be empty except for her and Lu Shuaishuai, Geng Miaowan suddenly felt that Lu Fangtong was really generous, actually leaving her with the child and the house keys.

Lu Shuaishuai didn't show any particular reaction to Lu Fangtong's departure. Geng Miaowan led him to the living room on the second floor. She lowered her head and said to him, "Then you play for a while, I'll go make you something to eat."

Seeing him nod, she went downstairs. She thought she saw the kitchen on the first floor when she came in.

It was completely dark by then. Peng Yuxian opened the door and found his house pitch black, which momentarily stunned him, as he had gotten used to the aroma of food as soon as he got home from work every day.

He turned on the light and changed into his slippers, wondering why Geng Miaowan hadn't returned yet. He waited a long time, but she didn't come back, not even a phone call. A surge of anger began to rise in Peng Yuxian's stomach; he figured it must be because he was hungry.

Since it was already late, and Lu Fangtong had originally planned to take him to his grandmother's house, so he hadn't stored any ingredients in the refrigerator, Geng Miaowan could only make two bowls of noodles with what she had.

"Shuai Shuai, come down for dinner!" she called upstairs as she placed the noodles on the table.

However, there was no movement upstairs.

"Shuai Shuai, come down for dinner!" She waited for a while, but there was still no response.

Geng Miaowan stood at the top of the stairs and listened for a moment, but couldn't hear even the sound of someone playing with toys. Suddenly, as if remembering something, she ran upstairs, calling out, "Shuai Shuai..."

But the living room was empty; there wasn't a soul in sight. The toy car that Shuai Shuai had been playing with was sitting quietly in the corner next to the sofa.

Startled, she cried out, "Handsome!" "Handsome!"

However, after searching every room upstairs, they couldn't find a trace of the child. Geng Miaowan's heart sank. She thought, "It's over. Could the child have disappeared in such a short time...?"

"Handsome..."

"Handsome..."

She called out anxiously, suddenly at a loss for what to do. She regretted that her decision had been too hasty; she had only thought about observing his behavior at home, forgetting that he was, after all, a child, and any oversight could lead to unexpected consequences.

Just then, her phone, which she had left downstairs, rang. She ran down, picked it up, and saw that the caller ID showed Peng Yuxian.

Upon seeing those three words, Geng Miaowan felt like she had seen a savior and quickly pressed the answer button. Before Peng Yuxian could even finish speaking, she said, "Peng Yuxian, Shuai Shuai is missing. What should I do?"

Peng Yuxian stared blankly at his phone for a moment. He had already planned how to scold her, but her question left him bewildered. "Shuai Shuai? Why are you still with Shuai Shuai so late?"

Geng Miaowan then realized that she had forgotten to tell him she was coming here, so she quickly told him about her visit to Lu Shuaishuai's house. After listening, he coldly said, "Do you have a brain?"

She didn't know if he was referring to her staying at Lu Shuaishuai's house or to the fact that she could lose sight of her child at home. In any case, neither was as serious as Lu Shuaishuai disappearing.

"Wait for me over there, I'll be right there."

"I need to go out and look for Shuai Shuai first, you..." Geng Miaowan said, turning around to go out and look for him, when she suddenly saw Lu Shuai Shuai standing behind her, staring at her with his big eyes. She almost knocked him to the ground when she turned around. "Ouch!"

She cried out in surprise and caught him, "What are you doing here?"

On the other end of the phone, Peng Yuxian heard her scream, his heart skipped a beat, and he quickly asked, "Hello, what's wrong? Hello!"

He called several times before Geng Miaowan's voice came from the other end of the phone, "Oh, it's nothing. I saw Shuai Shuai, he's at home. I'll hang up now."

After saying that, she hung up the phone without waiting for his reply.

Peng Yuxian stared at the busy signal on his phone, as if it were Geng Miaowan herself, his eyes practically spitting fire. This woman, not only had she gone to a stranger's house in the middle of the night, but now she dared to hang up on him!

He tightened his grip on his phone, but then suddenly wondered why he cared so much. Wherever she wanted to be was none of his business. With that thought, he angrily put down his phone and went to his study.

Geng Miaowan calmed her heart, which had been pounding in her chest from the fright, pulled Lu Shuaishuai over, and asked, "Didn't I tell you to play with your toys upstairs? Where did you go just now?"

Lu Shuaishuai's face was still pale. He blinked his doe-like eyes and pointed to the courtyard outside. Geng Miaowan glanced at the dark courtyard and said, "What are you doing in the courtyard?"

As she spoke, she patted the mud off his pants.

"I want to wait for Xiaoming to come and play." (To be continued.)
