Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2
Chapter 68 Flight Competition
After finally crawling back from the vegetable garden, just when I thought Dafu had met with an accident, I finally found Dafu inside the mop.
Although she was tangled in hair, she was finally freed with my help.
I just wanted to have a simple breakfast, but so many things happened. What's even more frustrating is that it wasted a lot of time. Luckily, neither of us was seriously injured.
"Twenty-two cents, hurry up, hurry up, the competition is about to start!" Da Fu called out anxiously.
"Let's start then. We can just skip the opening ceremony and watch the game. Look at how anxious you are," I said nonchalantly.
Having narrowly escaped danger once again, I have no desire to rush. Taking things one step at a time is the best way to stay alive.
From the sparrow we accidentally encountered when we went out earlier to the yogurt we just ate, these were all minor incidents, but they almost killed us.
So this is still a good thing for me, at least it taught me that I have to be careful in everything, and that danger lurks everywhere.
"No, we have to go! If we don't leave now, we'll be late!" Dafu shouted anxiously.
After saying that, he flew into the air and flew outwards.
I gave a wry smile and flew off after her. What could I do? I had promised her I'd go see that flying competition.
Dafu flew eagerly ahead of me, perfectly avoiding anything it encountered, while I was unlucky enough to follow behind.
After flying for about ten minutes, I saw a large number of insects by a lotus pond in the middle of the village.
It turns out this isn't just a competition between flies; I also saw dragonflies, butterflies, and bees.
"Thank goodness, I made it in time." Dafu looked at the grand scene and quickly flew towards a broken wooden plank floating in the middle of the pond.
I had no choice but to follow. On the broken wooden plank sat a creature: a fly, a bee, a butterfly, and a dragonfly.
He just sat there on the wooden plank.
"We want to sign up as judges," Dafu said hurriedly.
"If you had been a minute later, we would have packed up and left. Here are your competition ropes. Good luck," the judge who was playing the fly said politely, but the other three judges didn't even glance at them.
Just as I was wondering what was going on, Dafu quickly pulled me aside and we flew to the side, landing on a broken boat in the middle of the lake.
This is an abandoned pond, and this wrecked boat has been here for who knows how long. Now, it's filled with all four kinds of creatures I mentioned earlier.
"Here, take this." Dafu handed me what he called a rope, but what kind of rope was it? It was just a strand of hair.
I don't know where I found this strand of hair. I looked around and found that all the little animals had one tied to their arms. Could it be a qualification for participating in the competition?
"What's going on here? Weren't we supposed to be here to watch the game?" I asked, puzzled.
"It's all about participation, it's all about participation. It only happens once a year. If I don't participate this time, I'm afraid I won't live to see next year," Dafu said sadly.
"But you know I'm in a hurry!" I said, feeling quite annoyed.
"But didn't you say I could watch the game? Actually, watching the game and participating in the game take the same amount of time, so just come with me to participate." Dafu looked at me pitifully with pleading eyes.
"but……"
"Just this once, just this once, I'll do whatever you say from now on," Dafu said pitifully.
"Fine, I'll do as you say this once," I said, quite unhappy.
"Okay, okay, just this once. I definitely won't make decisions on my own next time," Dafu said happily.
"Yes, 12 cents is the best," Dafu said happily.
"What do we do now?" I asked, looking at the insects around me.
"We wait for the referee to arrive, then he'll explain the rules to us, and the game will begin," Dafu explained.
"Okay, then let's wait a bit. When does it start?" I asked.
“It should start soon,” Dafu said.
Dafu had just finished speaking when a figure flew into the air. Wasn't that the four judges?
"The 114th Mutant Insect Flying Competition officially begins! First, on behalf of the butterflies, I'd like to say a few words." The butterfly judge on the platform called out loudly to the crowd below.
Then a thunderous sound erupted from below—not applause, because we don't have hands, but the sound of wings, wings replacing hands.
I was speechless. You can do that? Are animals this creative now?
I instantly perked up, eager to see what would be different about their speeches. But to my dismay, the opening ceremony declarations were all the same, no matter where they were held.
"You chose 'One World, One Dream' as the theme of this year's Olympic Flight Competition, and tonight is a manifestation of that theme."
"We live in the same world, we share the same dream, so I hope this flying competition brings you joy, hope and pride. The flying competition belongs to your generation."
"Let the air race be a grand event for athletes. We wish you all a wonderful competition! Please participate in the competition in the spirit and values of the air race: excellence, friendship, and respect."
"Dear athletes, please remember that you are role models for the world's youth. Please reject doping and say no to cheating. Your achievements and performances should make us proud. As we turn the dream of the flying competition into reality, we sincerely thank the four organizing committees for their tireless work. We also want to give special thanks to the thousands of selfless volunteers; without them, none of this would have been possible."
I've heard this too many times, and this speech sounds too official, doesn't it?
I don't think it's a big deal, since I often hear such official statements.
But these insects below are different. Hearing this, their wings spun like thunder, and they all seemed to be injected with adrenaline, eager to compete for first place.
"Hey, is there performance-enhancing drugs in this competition?" I asked in surprise. "Impossible, right? How could these flies and butterflies possibly have performance-enhancing drugs?"
"Yes, it's the seed of a wild chili pepper. It's said to be extremely spicy, capable of igniting all your potential. Basically, if you eat it, you can fly incredibly fast," Dafu said with great disdain.
"Aren't you afraid of dying from the spiciness?" I exclaimed, utterly speechless.
Just as we were chatting, the referee finally arrived. He turned out to be a dragonfly, and he flew over the water as if he were performing some kind of light-footed martial arts. I'd give him nine points for his showmanship, and one point so he wouldn't get too cocky.
