Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2
Chapter 43 Lost
I thought I had found the key to victory, but to my surprise, just when victory was within my grasp, the little hamster stopped.
It turned out that it was too tired to vomit anymore, and just as the little hamster stopped, a large number of ants began to attack again.
Faced with a swarm of ants crawling up, there's basically no other way but to fight.
As I watched the swarms of ants begin to crawl up, I felt incredibly anxious, hoping the little hamster would quickly resume its fight.
But the little hamster seemed to be lacking oxygen, lying on the branch, constantly sticking out its tongue, completely limp, with no strength left to stick it out.
Seeing this critical moment, I panicked and shouted with all my might, "The enemy is coming! Everyone, prepare for battle!"
Upon hearing my voice, the ants below immediately began to crawl out, preparing to meet the arrival of the enemy.
At this moment, at this final, decisive battle, I feel it would be inappropriate if I didn't say something. Also, the burning passion in my heart seems to have nowhere to go, and it's very uncomfortable to have it stuck there.
"Stand up, ants who refuse to be slaves of a conquered nation! Let our flesh and blood form our last line of defense! Our homeland is in its most perilous moment! We must advance, braving enemy attacks, and crush all their conspiracies!" I roared at the ants below.
"We swear we will never be slaves of a conquered nation!" the soldiers below shouted loudly.
"Black ants will never be slaves."
"Go ahead."
None of that mattered anymore. My words were like a fuse, igniting an extraordinary surge in morale on our side. A great battle was about to unfold on an inconspicuous crooked tree.
This unassuming, crooked tree has sustained hundreds of lives, fighting for food to survive.
War is so cruel. We didn't retreat an inch, and the enemy didn't advance an inch. After fighting for about ten minutes, the red ants and termites slowly retreated. We won this battle.
They protected their homeland and the food they had left behind; they protected their queen; and above all, they protected their dignity.
We won! We finally won! We don't have to die anymore! We're alive again! I'm practically exhausted. Watching them fight, I was even more nervous than they were because I had absolutely no confidence.
I lay there on the hamster's head, watching the red ant slowly retreat, and I felt incredibly happy.
The area below became unusually lively, celebrating the victory. After the ants had all left, the little hamster led me into the tree trunk.
"Are you alright, Yimao Er?" Dafu asked worriedly when he saw me come in.
"It's okay, we won," I said happily.
We won, so we'll have food to eat and won't have to wander anymore. That's wonderful! I'm incredibly happy.
A moment later, the ant leader came over and said, "The Queen summons you."
Upon hearing the Queen's summons, I slid down from the little hamster, like a slide, and came to the ant.
"Let's go." I was very happy.
Led by the team leader, we arrived at the hall we had been in before and met the two ant queens.
"Twenty-two cents, thank you for your help today. You're truly a legend!" the queen I didn't recognize exclaimed happily, perhaps because she herself hadn't expected this outcome.
"I did nothing; the ones who truly contributed were the ants who sacrificed themselves in this battle," I said sadly.
Because I witnessed the cruelty of war, and how insignificant and trivial an individual's power is in the face of war.
"You're too modest. No matter what, you still made an indispensable contribution to this battle. Tell me what you want, and we'll definitely help you," the queen ant said sincerely.
"No need, the beautiful queen ant beside you has already agreed to help me with my needs," I said very politely.
After listening to me, she looked at the other queen ant beside her with a puzzled expression. After receiving confirmation, she turned to me and said, "In that case, alright. But if you need any help in the future, you can always come to me."
“Yes, Your Majesty,” I replied politely.
"Well then, you can go now. We need to rebuild and rest after the great battle, so we'll be very busy. Feel free to look around whenever you have time. As for the food, please help yourself," the queen ant said very politely.
"Thank you, Your Majesty," I said politely.
"Alright, if there's nothing else, you may leave now," the Queen said.
"Yes." After saying that, I slowly crawled out the door.
After I came out, I saw the injured ants repairing themselves, while the uninjured ones were tidying up their surroundings, like cleaning up a battlefield.
"Yi Mao Er, are you alright? You don't seem very happy," Da Fu asked from behind me.
"It's nothing, I'm just feeling a bit down because so many of my friends have died," I said, looking quite dejected.
After all, the ants that were just chatting and playing together died in the blink of an eye. How could I not feel down and sad?
"It's alright, that's just how nature works, survival of the fittest, you'll get used to it," Dafu said to me from behind.
"Have you seen too much already? Are you used to it?" I asked, feeling quite frustrated.
"Yes, I'm used to it now," Dafu said casually.
Upon hearing Dafu's words, I immediately thought of a very serious problem, so I asked with great concern, "How old are you? How do you know so many things?"
"Oh? Well, I've been born for about ten days now, and I'll be twenty in a few days," Dafu replied honestly.
When I heard Dafu mention this, I remembered a very serious problem: it takes about seven to twenty days for maggots to turn into flies, and the length of time is greatly affected by the temperature.
In the high temperatures of summer, it would take about seven days, but in the low temperatures, it would not take more than twenty days. But Da Fu said that it will be twenty days soon, so does that mean our time has come?
But why isn't Dafu in a hurry at all? Has she forgotten our purpose?
Why is that? Dafu doesn't seem to be changing at all, although I don't know what biological evolution process it takes for maggots to become flies.
But shouldn't it turn into a swarm of insects before the basic change? But there's no reaction at all! What's going on?
I looked at Dafu with great confusion...
