My Apocalypse: Infinite Rewinds
Chapter 12: The Zombies That Never Return
.
"No way, this is all there is! And there's no meat?!" Li Kai picked up the only meat dish with trembling hands. The few small, exquisite eggs looked particularly charming in the setting sun.
"I should have eaten less at noon. At least I had some meat last night." Li Kai looked at the instant noodles that were already in the pot, and suddenly felt a strong urge to commit suicide.
"Roar!!! (Big brother, spare me!)" The zombie in the underworld unleashed a soul-shaking roar with its fragmented soul.
"Huh? What's that sound?" Li Kai looked up and around when he heard the scream echoing in his ears. "It's nothing. Oh well, it's evening now, so let's not do this."
"It smells pretty good." Looking at the fragrant instant noodles on the table, Li Kai exclaimed while blowing out hot air, "Mmm! Delicious, just the right taste! Pickled cabbage—ah, it's getting good."
After washing the dishes, Li Kai found all the food he could find to fill his stomach: three packets of instant noodles, four eggs, some cilantro and green onions, four or five potatoes, and a few packets of coffee.
"This is so little! I should have stocked up on more food earlier." Li Kai said dejectedly, looking at the meager amount of food. "At this rate, we won't even last a day. This is bad!"
"Looks like I have to go out tomorrow, or I'll starve to death," Li Kai said resolutely, looking at the remaining food. The allure of food is truly irresistible.
That night, Li Kai held a cup of freshly brewed coffee, gazing up at the starry sky. Countless glittering points of light seemed to wink at him. "How long has it been since I've felt this relaxed? A year or two?"
"My mom wasn't home, and that guy left, so I just stayed home without a care in the world. Looking back now, I feel like such a failure! I haven't learned any survival skills at all."
"Speaking of which, perhaps it feels good to go out into the world!" This feeling suddenly surfaced in the boy's mind, a feeling that seemed all too familiar.
The next morning, Li Kai, who had made up his mind the night before, stood hesitantly at the door. "Should I practice first? There are so many zombies outside, what if I accidentally..."
Judging from your tone, you're not planning on...? No way.
"Yes, that's how it's done!" Li Kai smiled, placed the dagger against his neck, and then committed suicide! Hey, you can't do that!
"Little zombie, I'm here!" Li Kai rushed out of the room as soon as he opened his eyes. Just as he was about to strengthen his bond with the zombie, a cruel reality suddenly appeared before him.
"Strange, where did they go?" Li Kai looked at the empty living room; the zombies that had been diligently guarding their posts seemed to have disappeared.
"No way, how could it just disappear like that!" After searching everywhere, Li Kai was forced to accept this cruel reality. Could it have run away beforehand? That's unlikely! (Hehe!! You'll never find me again!)
"Huh? It's August 19th now? Isn't that the time I just committed suicide?" Li Kai exclaimed in surprise as he glanced at the date displayed on his phone.
"Does this mean that the only time I can be resurrected after death is in the early morning of the same day?" Another question spread through Li Kai's mind, and he was extremely eager to know the answer!
"Since that's the case, even though it will hurt a bit, I guess I'll have to..." To confirm his guess, Li Kai once again placed the dagger against his neck.
Why do you always choose the neck? Can't other parts of the body be chosen?
"Ahem, regarding this question, as an expert in this field, I can responsibly tell you that, based on my countless suicide attempts, slitting your throat is definitely the quickest and simplest way to die, and it's not even that painful!" Li Kai explained with a smile. "How can you still laugh about that?"
"It seems I was right." After several attempts, Li Kai discovered that his resurrection time was always in the early morning of that day, which meant that the zombie would never return. (I don't want it to come back!)
"Time flies and never returns, so cherish every moment!" Li Kai sighed softly, his voice filled with an indescribable sorrow and desolation. Damn it, get back to the point!
"Sigh, there's no other way, I have to go out." Having learned that he could no longer communicate with the zombies, Li Kai reluctantly opened the door and took his first step.
I'm Li Kai. Facing the morning sun of the second day, I finally took my first step into a new world. That long-lost air, that ancient scent... wait, why do I suddenly have this ominous feeling? (ps: Hehe, it's about to begin, yours!)
