My Apocalypse: Infinite Rewinds
Chapter 112 seems familiar.
"Hey, do you really remember?" Li Kai looked at Yu Ruoxue, who was looking around with a face full of suspicion, which made people really doubt him.
"I know, but the changes here are too great!" Yu Ruoxue retorted loudly, but unfortunately her flushed face was not very convincing.
"Sigh, there's really nothing I can do." Li Kai looked helplessly at the girl who was trying to explain herself. Although your excuse is pretty good, can you please not repeat it? It happened just an hour ago.
That's right, the two of them have been wandering around for more than an hour since they arrived here. However, Yu Ruoxue, who is so bad at directions, is really embarrassing. She even forgot her home!
Just as the two were at their wits' end, a puzzled voice suddenly rang in their ears, "Huh? Is that the young lady?"
"Huh? I think I heard something?" Yu Ruoxue looked around blankly; the voice sounded somewhat familiar.
"Idiot, isn't it right ahead?" Li Kai smacked her on the head hard and said disdainfully.
"Hey, I'm not stupid!" Yu Ruoxue shouted, brandishing her claws.
"Oh? I didn't even notice that, that's strange." Li Kai said with a sudden realization.
"What?!" After a long moment of stunned silence, Yu Ruoxue suddenly realized what was happening and angrily pounced on him.
"Alright, stop fooling around, it won't be good if someone sees us." Li Kai pressed her head down and said slowly.
With a "humph," Yu Ruoxue could only turn her head to the side, having achieved nothing.
"Oh dear, it seems I wasn't mistaken after all. I didn't expect you to still be alive, Miss." The honest voice reached their ears again, and the figure in the distance grew closer.
Approaching was a bald, burly man in a security guard uniform. Despite his large size, his body was not bulky but rather somewhat robust. His honest and kind face did not arouse any suspicion. If one had to say, the only thing that could not be observed was his eyes; one could not see what was hidden within them.
"Do you know him?" Li Kai tugged at Yu Ruoxue's sleeve and asked in confusion.
"I think I vaguely remember him. He was our family's security guard." Yu Ruoxue tried hard to recall the memories she had forgotten, and finally managed to catch a trace of them.
"How can you use 'seems' for something like this?!" Li Kai was at a loss for words.
"I didn't want to either. I've barely left the house many times. Who would remember so many security guards? Otherwise, I wouldn't have..."
"Nothing will happen?"
"It's nothing," Yu Ruoxue said, her expression stiffening slightly as she shook her head.
"It seems the young lady doesn't have a deep impression of me. Well, there's nothing I can do about it. After all, I was just a gatekeeper back then. It's already quite good that she has some impression of me." The bald, burly man explained at the right time. His sincere words were without the slightest bit of grudge. But whether it was the sunlight or something else, Li Kai suddenly felt that there was a strange light flashing in his eyes.
"Back then, I was just a penniless wretch with nowhere to turn, but the boss took the initiative to hire someone like me, and the young lady was always very kind to us. This is a debt of gratitude I can never repay in my lifetime!" The bald, burly man continued to recount his past, which was deeply moving.
"Boss? Do you know what happened to my parents now?" Upon hearing him mention this word, Yu Ruoxue asked nervously, wondering what had happened there after she escaped.
"Alas, it's our incompetence! We're so sorry, we failed to protect the boss and his wife. We're utterly pathetic!" the bald, burly man sobbed, tears streaming down his face. "We couldn't hold them off at all! That monster easily wiped out most of us, and with his bare hands no less!"
"Is it really gone? It's all my fault!" Hearing the answer she had already prepared herself for, Yu Ruoxue's heart still couldn't help but stiffen, and she murmured in a daze.
"Monster?? What kind of monster? Isn't it a zombie?" Li Kai exclaimed abruptly as he listened to his description.
"I don't know, but it's definitely not a zombie. It's far more terrifying than a zombie," the bald, burly man said, shivering as if the experience had deeply affected him.
"Could it be an existence like Eternal Night? No, it shouldn't be, it's impossible. After all, he said that there aren't many at that level." Thinking of this, Li Kai shook his head vigorously.
"It's all my fault, you monster!" At the same time, Yu Ruoxue became dazed and her words became incoherent.
Seeing Yu Ruoxue like this, Li Kai grabbed her shoulders tightly and shouted, "Idiot, wake up!!"
"Ah!" Yu Ruoxue cried out in fright upon hearing the loud roar beside her.
"I'm sorry, I lost my temper," Yu Ruoxue apologized softly, finally realizing her mistake. She really couldn't forget.
"You can tell me things, don't keep them bottled up inside," Li Kai kindly reminded Yu Ruoxue, who seemed to be feeling slightly better.
"It's alright." Yu Ruoxue shook her head slightly, then turned her gaze to the burly man. "What about my parents' bodies?"
"Huh? The boss's body?" Upon hearing Yu Ruoxue's question, the burly man was taken aback, then a sharp glint suddenly flashed in his eyes. "Does Miss want to see them one last time?"
“That’s right!” Yu Ruoxue answered without hesitation.
“After so many days, the body can’t be preserved at all, but the ashes should still be visible.” The burly man glanced at her timidly, then gritted his teeth and said.
"Then let's go, I want to go and see," Yu Ruoxue said, her expression neither sad nor happy.
"Hey, don't you want to reconsider? I have a feeling this guy isn't very reliable," Li Kai quietly pulled Yu Ruoxue aside and asked in a low voice.
Yu Ruoxue didn't say anything, but instead walked straight ahead.
"That's really reckless. You'll suffer for it." Li Kai shook his head helplessly and had no choice but to follow suit.
"By the way, what's this young man's name? Do you know the young lady before?" the bald, burly man whispered in Li Kai's ear, trying to ingratiate himself.
"Just call me Li Kai. We've known each other for a while now. I don't even know your name, Uncle?" Li Kai said with a grin.
"Uncle?" Upon hearing this address, the bald, burly man was speechless, his brow furrowing slightly before disappearing in an instant. "Just call me Wang Gang."
"Oh, Uncle Wang Gang, do you know how many survivors are left in your area?" Li Kai asked with interest.
"Hmm? It's not really a lot, considering there aren't many living people left in this kind of ghostly environment." Wang Gang conveniently avoided the question, calmly remarking.
"Is that so? In that case, there's no need for us to hurt each other." Li Kai smiled almost imperceptibly.
“Yes,” Wang Gang drawled out, then walked forward dejectedly.
"An honest man? Or does he have ulterior motives?" Watching him leave, Li Kai sighed deeply. "Don't always make yourself go through all this trouble!"
