Infinite: Dawn Game

Chapter 17 Self-service Supermarket

Yu Shijiu finally saw the self-service supermarket that An Jie had told him about yesterday.

This is a building that is different from the densely packed "pupa shops". The walls on all four sides are made of transparent glass, and the shelves are filled with bread and compressed biscuits in the same packaging. It looks more like a warehouse that stores the same type of products than a supermarket.

The man with the missing arm was named Fang Zhi. In reality, he was driving a large truck while fatigued on an elevated road when the truck crashed into the sea. Even though he tried desperately to save himself inside the vehicle, he still drowned.

“You can make a lot of money driving a long-distance trip. I was thinking of doing one more trip and then finding a place to rest, but I never expected this,” Fang Zhi sniffed and smiled bitterly:

"I never expected to fall into the sea."

Yu Shijiu walked to the shelf, picked up a bread, glanced at it, and paused for a few seconds on the original flavor in the lower right corner of the packaging.

Just as he guessed, they all tasted the same.

"Driving while fatigued is bad."

Yu Shijiu was just giving Fang Zhi a perfunctory answer when Fang Zhi grabbed her arm. She was about to pull out a plastic bag from the side to put the bread in when Fang Zhi grabbed her arm.

"Don't smoke this," Fang Zhi said, bending down and taking several plastic bags out of his coat pocket with his good right hand.

The plastic bags were all white, neatly folded by Fang Zhi, but the wrinkles on their surfaces could not be smoothed out.

"Two points for a plastic bag, that's too expensive. With a little more, I could buy a loaf of bread..."

As Fang Zhi explained, he picked out a less wrinkled plastic bag, shook it out, and handed it to Yu Shijiu, somewhat embarrassed.

"It's a bit old, but don't worry, I washed it all clean after I picked it up, so it'll definitely be good for holding food."

Yu Shijiu looked at the plastic bag handed to him, took it, and began to pack bread into it.

One loaf of bread costs five points, three loaves can last a day for fifteen points... that's 450 points a month, plus accommodation, it's only 5450 points.

When you calculate it this way, the cost of living in "Chrysalis Shop" is indeed not high, since the cost of oxygen alone in town is 7200 points a month.

With such a high number of points, Yu Shijiu, who was completely broke, quietly took a few more packs of compressed biscuits.

You have to change things up sometimes...etc.

Yu Shijiu belatedly realized that he only had 1500 points.

Does that mean he can't even afford the accommodation fee at the "cocoon shop" now?

This is not good news.

If he can't even afford to stay in a "pupa shop," where else can a player like him go?

“Uncle,” Yu Shijiu suddenly looked up, smiling as he asked Fang Zhi, who was standing with his back to him, fiddling with a machine.

When do we usually enter a dungeon?

Fang Zhi, who was exchanging thirty points for a fast food meal, paused. He turned around and looked at Yu Shijiu, who was carrying a bag of bread, and realized that the other person might be worried about the room fee.

“New players get 15 days of free accommodation,” Fang Zhi explained.

"You can wait fifteen days before entering the game."

Fifteen days later?

Yu Shijiu's thoughts shifted, and she realized something: "So we can enter the game at any time?"

Fang Zhi's expression was somewhat complicated: "Yes, if you want to earn more points, you can enter the game more often. The more difficult the game, the more points you will get."

"As long as you have enough points, you can even go a whole year without logging into the game."

Upon hearing this, Yu Shijiu suddenly felt that the information in the "Chrysalis Shop" was too blocked. Neither the system "Xiao Li" in his mind nor the other players around him seemed to know much.

The local gazetteer was an unexpected bonus.

Yu Shijiu guessed that the other party must have been in the Dawn game for a long time.

Just like Anjie who came to win him over yesterday.

However, Anjie seems to have achieved points freedom, while Fangzhi is still holed up in the "cocoon shop" and has a broken arm.

Suddenly, the machine behind Fang Zhi started to hum. The next second, a fairly large portion of fast food appeared from the machine's opening. Fang Zhi quickly turned around and picked up the fast food.

"Don't overthink it," Fang Zhi said, holding a fast food meal, as he walked up to the boy and extended his hand.

"Eat first, it's still hot."

Yu Shijiu looked down at the steaming fast food in front of her, and out of the corner of her eye, she noticed Fang Zhi's Adam's apple bobbing, realizing that the other man probably hadn't had a proper meal in a long time.

To be honest, Yu Shijiu didn't want to eat it.

But Fang Zhi seemed to have misunderstood him, thinking that he was just embarrassed, and pushed the fast food towards Yu Shijiu again.

"Eat quickly, it's alright," Fang Zhi urged.

"..."

Yu Shijiu eventually accepted the fast food.

The two sat on the threshold of the glass door of the self-service supermarket and began to eat.

"Thank you," Yu Shijiu said after hesitating for a few seconds after finishing her fast food.

Fang Zhi swallowed the bread in his throat and waved his hand, saying:

"Oh! I should be the one thanking you. You just helped me get the recovery potion back..."

Fang Zhi was momentarily speechless as he recalled what had just happened, but he didn't say anything. He just glanced at the boy sitting on the threshold beside him, lost in thought, and got up to buy two bottles of water.

"Have some water," Fang Zhi handed him, smiling as he said, "Go back and get some rest after you finish drinking."

Yu Shijiu did not refuse. He glanced at the water vending machine next to him as he took the water, then stood up and ignored Fang Zhi's shouts as he walked towards the town.

Fang Zhi called out to him a few times, but when there was no response, he gave up and bought a few loaves of bread to return to the "pupa shop".

As they drove away, Fang Zhi glanced back at Yu Shijiu, who had already reached the roadside, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions, including admiration.

With a personality like Yu Shijiu's, there's a high probability he could squeeze into the top 1,000 players.

Even the first few hundred.

The top few hundred players on the leaderboard must have at least hundreds of thousands or even millions of points, so they don't need to worry about whether they have enough points.

That is, there must be opportunities for growth.

As if he had thought of something, a hint of fear flashed in Fang Zhi's eyes.

As long as... you don't get targeted by those people in black robes, you'll be fine.

But just as Fang Zhi reached the door of the "pupa shop", he realized something was wrong.

Normally, there are always many players coming out to get some fresh air at this time, and it can be quite noisy. But why is it so quiet now?

Is there someone—

The door of the "Chrysalis Shop" was pushed open from the inside, and four people dressed in black robes appeared in Fang Zhi's eyes.

Fang Zhi's pupils contracted sharply, and for a moment he felt a dull pain in the wound on his severed arm.

It's those lunatics from the Black Robe Church.

The leader of the men in black robes seemed to notice Fang Zhi's gaze and glanced up at him.

"Have you seen this person?"

The man in black robes had a clear, crisp voice, and judging from the voice, he was a young child. However, Fang Zhi's body trembled involuntarily, and his throat seemed to be blocked with phlegm, making it impossible for him to swallow.

"Ok?"

The man in black robes shook the photograph in his hand; the face hidden beneath the robes was obscured. He asked Fang Zhi again:

"Have you seen this person in the photo?"
