Super System in the Early Tang Dynasty
Chapter 56 Everyone Loves a Little Chicken
After going around in circles, another ten days or so have passed.
Although life in the manor was so comfortable that Li Xingzhi didn't want to leave, he was still worried about the things he had planted.
Whether in his past or present life, this was the first time he had ever grown something himself. Besides the novelty, there was also a sense of anticipation, all of which drove him to leave that comfortable place. He returned in a hurry that day, only asking Wu Laoliu to go and take care of it, and he didn't know how it was doing now.
Stepping outside the city, Li Xingzhi was greeted by a sea of green, the fresh scent of earth instantly clearing his mind and making him feel refreshed. The gloom from days of laziness dissipated, leaving him feeling relaxed and invigorated!
Although he cultivates in the space every day, the natural beauty of this vast world is incomparable to the narrow cave space. Even though it has many wonders and the life force and spiritual energy there are dozens or hundreds of times greater than outside, it is still too rigid and lacks vitality.
"I wonder when his space will also be able to display such scenery," he thought.
Li Xingzhi strolled along, leisurely enjoying the surrounding scenery. Passersby, seeing the young man's relaxed demeanor, couldn't help but slow down, curious to see what kind of sight could have captivated such a handsome young man!
They walked slowly, and before they knew it, they had arrived at the entrance of Wangjia Village. Li Xingzhi suddenly sensed a commotion. He listened intently and heard chickens running and dogs barking. He had no idea what was happening.
He hurried a few steps but didn't see anyone. He thought something serious must have happened, so he took Erlang and Dahuang and strode towards the direction from which the sound came.
When we arrived, we found a large group of dozens of people gathered there, and we didn't know what they were doing.
He breathed a sigh of relief; thankfully, nothing serious had happened!
As soon as Li Xingzhi reached the crowd, a hand grabbed him and said, "Li Dalang, your family has turned the whole village upside down!"
Turning his head, Li Xingzhi discovered that the person next to him was none other than the old clan chief's honest-looking son—Wang Baosheng.
As Wang Baosheng spoke, he pulled Li Xingzhi through the crowd. When everyone saw that the person in charge had arrived, they all made way for him, and several enthusiastic villagers greeted Li Xingzhi from time to time, saying how amazing his family was.
Li Xingzhi looked completely bewildered, still unaware of what had happened, and assumed that his servant had caused the trouble.
However, he couldn't figure out how Wu Laoliu, with his dull and taciturn nature, had gotten into trouble.
Before Li Xingzhi could even step inside, the old clan chief approached, tugged at his sleeve, and said, "None of your little rascals are well-behaved." He paused to catch his breath, then continued, "I heard from Wang Ermazi's third son that you were causing trouble in Tanzhou City and weren't exactly a peaceful person, so I was a little worried—but I never imagined that your little rascals would be even more mischievous than you!"
Although the old patriarch's face remained expressionless as usual, there was no hint of blame in his tone, which put my mind at ease.
Without waiting for Li Xingzhi's reply, she pulled him inside.
At this moment, Wu Laoliu came forward and respectfully bowed to Li Xingzhi.
Li Xingzhi sized him up; he was still as expressionless as ever, unchanged, his clothes neat, and he didn't seem to have encountered any trouble. Only then did he completely relax, but he felt a surge of curiosity about what had happened earlier.
He took a few more steps forward and suddenly heard several sharp crows of chickens. Could it be a cockfight?
Passing through the human wall, I came to an open space with six chickens on either side. Three chickens on one side were brightly colored, with long, curved tails and bright red combs; the other side consisted of much smaller chickens, barely half-grown, their combs just beginning to form. Compared to the tall, imposing roosters on the other side, they looked pitiful. However, judging by their heads held high, adorned with small combs, and their sparsely feathered rear ends sticking out, they were clearly small, yet they tried to appear superior. They certainly didn't look like they'd been bullied by "great powers."
No one around spoke, even the old clan chief looked at the chickens in front of him with great interest. Li Xingzhi suppressed his questions and also stared at the chickens in front of him...
--------------------------
The story begins when Wang Liu discovered that her chickens were missing.
In Wangjia Village, there lived a beautiful widow named Wang Liu. Besides raising silkworms and weaving cloth like other women, she was also an excellent chicken farmer. In the entire village, her family had the most chickens, and they were the healthiest and strongest.
Every day, her family's big rooster, proud and imposing, stands on the roof, waiting for the moment the sun rises, to crow for the first time amidst the envy and jealousy of all the roosters in the village and the admiration of all the hens!
The rooster's crow had long since become the wake-up call for the entire village, and because of this, Wang Liushi had become a "celebrity" among the women of the village.
However, no one expected that one day, the rooster that Wang Liushi raised suddenly stopped working.
Wang Liu was getting anxious. There was always trouble around a widow's door. When ruffians came over, besides the help of the villagers, she relied on the big rooster to chase them away. Over time, the woman and the rooster had developed a bit of a "rooster bond".
"I wonder what happened to our rooster?" Wang Liu asked worriedly as she walked toward the henhouse.
When I got to the chicken coop, I almost fainted. I found that apart from a rooster covered in blood and looking listless, there was nothing else inside! Had all the chickens in my house been stolen by the Weasel spirit?
When the rooster saw its owner approaching, it only crowed softly once. Its eyes lacked their usual brilliance, its comb was limp, and its head drooped, showing no signs of life.
Wang Liu picked up the motionless rooster and examined it closely. Ignoring her distress, she noticed that many feathers had fallen off and the comb was covered in blood, which was quite alarming, but there were no fatal wounds.
She carefully placed the chicken in the coop, and with a sliver of hope, began to wander around the village.
Finally, in Li Xingzhi's yard, they found his dozen or so hens and several castrated roosters, lined up behind a few little ones to eat.
At first, she thought it was Li's servant who had stolen her chickens, but knowing that the servant had powerful connections, and that she was a young widow, all alone and helpless, and not wanting to cause trouble for the villagers, she kept quiet. She only gave Wu Laoliu a good scolding before taking her chickens home.
But who knew that by evening, their own chickens would run off to someone else's house again.
She thought that the man had cast some kind of spell on his chickens.
These chickens were her lifeblood; she had no choice but to seek justice from the clan elder.
The next day, the old clan chief, along with several villagers and Wang Liushi, prepared to go to Li Xingzhi's courtyard to seek justice for Wang Liushi. Unexpectedly, they ran into Wu Laoliu.
Old Wu seemed to know where they came from. He pointed to the proud little roosters walking ahead, who were arrogant and disdainful of everyone. He didn't say anything, but simply gestured for them to follow.
The group followed a few chickens as they walked forward.
With the harvest season over, the villagers of Wangjia Village were idle and had nothing to do. Seeing the old clan chief and his group, they curiously followed, and the procession grew larger and larger. Finally, led by a few chicks, the group headed straight for the old clan chief's house.
The old clan chief's family had the second most chickens in the entire village.
The group saw several chicks stop outside the old clan chief's courtyard wall, and they didn't know what they were doing.
Suddenly, a few roosters crowed, and then a long crowing came from the yard. The old clan chief's chickens then jumped out from behind the wall in a majestic manner.
What followed was not a "Three Heroes Battle Lü Bu" scenario, but a proper "soldier against soldier, general against general" battle. The scene was incredibly lively, with the two sides exchanging blows until the sky darkened, making the men's blood boil! Even the young wives on the sidelines were stunned.
Finally, a few bald-tailed roosters led a flock of hens home in a grand procession. When the old clan chief came to his senses, he just smiled wryly and didn't rush to look for the chickens.
Wang Liu, standing nearby, was also dumbfounded. However, women are more sentimental, and looking at the dejected rooster in the middle, she inexplicably thought of her own rooster, and a wave of sadness washed over her.
Her crying caused quite a stir, throwing a group of grown men into a panic. In the end, it was the old clan chief who spoke up, saying they should wait for the master to arrive before making any decisions.
In the days that followed, Wangjia Village gained a new form of entertainment: watching the roosters fight with the chickens from other households.
Thus, this is what Li Xingzhi saw.
Li Xingzhi looked at the few roosters in front of him, and with a leap, he smoothly jumped onto the backs of the big roosters and pecked at their big red combs. Although the big roosters were strong and powerful, they were clumsy and, amidst the sighs of the crowd, "lived up to expectations" and were defeated.
Li Xingzhi watched in astonishment as the roosters, leading a flock of hens, strode back through the path cleared by the people, like a triumphant general returning home.
"Li Dalang, what do you think?" the old clan chief asked.
"How come these chicks are so powerful?"
"We should be asking you about this! How did you raise such a bunch of unruly chickens!" The old clan chief looked at the few roosters with shaved rear ends from the fight, still wriggling around, and couldn't help but laugh and scold them.
After Baosheng added his explanation, Li Xingzhi understood the whole story. However, he frowned and asked, "What should be done about Wang Liu's matter?"
At this moment, the old clan chief couldn't help but smile, saying, "Don't worry about this for now. Perhaps in a few days, there will be another happy event in our Wang Family Village! However, I hope that Li Dalang will do me a favor when that time comes."
Although Li Xingzhi still had some doubts, the old clan chief had already walked away with light steps...
