Defeat the system! Kiss my little monster!

Chapter 31 Concealing One's Edge

The scene before him was blurry, with unidentified dark shadows moving within it. Sheng Shixian stared intently for a while, and as the interference dissipated, the truth beneath was gradually revealed.

His pupils focused, and as soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Pei Du's expressionless face.

Noticing that Sheng Shixian had woken up, Pei Du continued to look down. After a few quick snapping sounds, Sheng Shixian felt his wrist being held loosen.

Sheng Shixian was slightly taken aback, and belatedly noticed the unusual appearance of her fingers.

He quickly pulled his hand back and realized that all ten of his fingernails had been cut short. He had been growing his nails for a long time, deliberately biting them into a triangular shape with his teeth, but Pei Du had cut them all off.

Pei Du stood up and wiped the crevices of the scissors clean with a tissue. The pile of nail clippings on the table had grown into a small mountain. Pei Du glanced at it and threw it all into the trash can.

Sheng Shixian froze, watching Pei Du's entire operation. Pei Du didn't make eye contact with Sheng Shixian. He cleaned everything up and went to his room to wash up as if nothing had happened.

Sheng Shixian: "..."

Because of the severity of his injury, Pei Du submitted another leave request to the director.

Pei Du originally planned to take a three-day vacation, but then he thought of Ling Yu and his White Ball System, and decided to work from home.

There was no possibility of him giving up the projects he was in charge of. In addition to the dedicated laboratories in the research institute, Pei Du's villa also had separate research facilities.

Pei Du always found a way to make effective use of what his father left behind.

Sheng Shixian's emotions also stabilized. Pei Du passed by him several times and noticed that he was sitting properly on the sofa to recover from his injuries, and there were no more symptoms of agitation or madness.

Pei Du couldn't figure out the reason for Sheng Shixian's emotional fluctuations, but every time Pei Du went out, Sheng Shixian would go crazy. Pei Du also vaguely sensed something hidden in his emotions.

That evening, while Pei Du was having dinner, the clanging sound of chains clattering came from beside him again.

Sheng Shixian stood next to Pei Du. The previous times, he would place the ceramic bowl in front of him to subtly signal to Pei Du. But Pei Du ignored him, continuing to eat his own food, and offered Sheng Shixian a glass of plain water.

Pei Du knew that the mutants had a high survival rate and a tolerance far exceeding that of ordinary people, so he planned to starve Sheng Shixian for a few more days.

Only after Sheng Shixian has suffered will he no longer have the thought of easily attacking and tearing Pei Du apart.

Sheng Shixian stood beside Pei Du, whose dinner was simple but not perfunctory. Two dishes and a soup, fragrant and delicious, looked quite presentable.

Sheng Shixian's Adam's apple bobbed as he shifted his gaze from Pei Du's face to the food in his bowl. The braised pork was coated with a barely noticeable layer of oil, a deep reddish-brown color, and looked like tender, juicy meat.

Pei Du glanced at Sheng Shixian and said in a flat tone, "None of yours."

After he finished speaking, he turned to the side, blocking Sheng Shixian's view.

Sheng Shixian stood still, his eyes flickering, the gloom rising and falling within them before finally settling into a calm and deep gaze.

Pei Du heard a rustling sound behind him. He glanced to the side and saw Sheng Shixian leaning on his cane again, taking one step at a time, pausing frequently, before finally managing to stand opposite Pei Du with great difficulty.

His mouth was tightly gagged, and he couldn't speak. After arriving in front of Pei Du, he simply stood there. This time, his gaze didn't linger on the food, but instead fell on Pei Du's brows and eyes with an inscrutable expression.

Pei Du withdrew his gaze and continued eating, as if he hadn't seen the person in front of him.

Sheng Shixian didn't move. He stood inside the room, holding his cane. His fingers, with their nails just trimmed, were pale and covered in tiny, unidentified cuts, sitting stiffly in the center of the support as if they were newly grown.

Pei Du finished his dinner in his sight.

Sheng Shixian's beast ears, which had been standing upright, twitched slightly with some hope. But when Pei Du put down his chopsticks, Sheng Shixian lowered his eyes, and his beast ears returned to their original droopy state.

"Sheng Shixian, are you hungry?" Pei Du asked suddenly after Sheng Shixian, who was leaning on his cane and about to go back, had walked a few meters away.

Sheng Shixian stopped and turned around, looking at Pei Du with hesitation. Pei Du's expression remained unchanged as he leaned back in his chair, his gaze fixed on Sheng Shixian.

Sheng Shixian had nothing to hide; he had been starving for two days, and pretending not to say anything would only make him hungrier.

He nodded.

"Okay. Go eat if you're hungry. I've prepared dinner for you." Pei Du stood up. The bowls and chopsticks on his table were still there, and next to him was a clean ceramic bowl—the very one that Sheng Shixian had been holding earlier.

Sheng Shixian gripped the iron cane tightly, his pupils fixed on Pei Du, not yet understanding Pei Du's meaning.

“I told you before, I won’t mistreat you. As long as you know you’re wrong, that’s fine. Do you know you’re wrong?” Pei Du said in a normal tone. He stepped forward and removed the gag from Sheng Shixian’s mouth, still showing his easygoing nature.

Sheng Shixian had not removed his gag for two days. When it was finally taken off, the area around his mouth was so numb that he almost lost all feeling.

Sheng Shixian subconsciously kneaded the muscles under his jaw with his hands, and the soreness there exploded, a feeling that was hard to describe.

He glanced at Pei Du with his dark eyes, then lowered his gaze and hummed in response.

Pei Du casually tossed the gag into the pool and said, "Go brush your teeth and rinse your mouth. Come eat after you're clean."

Sheng Shixian stopped rubbing his chin. Seeing Pei Du walk towards the bathroom, he picked up his cane and followed him.

Pei Du remained standing at the corner, leaning against the wall, leaving Sheng Shixian to handle the hygiene himself.

Sheng Shixian picked up his toothpaste and toothbrush, poured a glass of water, and began brushing his teeth according to the steps.

He deliberately observed his face in the mirror. Although his face was fair, his eyes were dark and purplish, and his hair was messy, like a bird's nest, because he hadn't washed it for days.

Sheng Shixian stared at it for a while, then lowered her head to continue washing up.

Pei Du stood to the side, stroking the bandage on his hand.

The wound under the bandage had not yet healed, and an itchy sensation would occasionally occur. As if in response, when Pei Du's thumb touched the bandage, a faint stinging pain also appeared on the bite wound beside his ear.

It might leave a scar, after all, Sheng Shixian bit him quite hard.

Pei Du rubbed his wrist as he looked at Sheng Shixian. Sheng Shixian's face was smooth, and his skin was clean without any wounds.

"When did you learn to brush your teeth?" Pei Du suddenly asked.

Previously, Sheng Shixian's brushing motions were stiff, and he liked to bite the brush head. Even after Pei Du demonstrated it to him, Sheng Shixian still liked to bite the toothbrush like candy from time to time.

This time, his brushing motion was quite smooth, not stiff, and his posture was natural. There were no strange occurrences during the process.
