Several nearby buildings were destroyed by bombs within seconds. The ground shook violently, and their apartment was also impacted, with walls cracking and debris raining down.

"elder brother!"

Cheng Jingyi stopped in his tracks when he heard the shouts behind him. He turned around at the window and saw Shen Heng staggering toward him.

"Brother! Those guys are my teammates, they won't hurt you! Don't go—"

The cramped room could no longer withstand the strain, and the floor tiles cracked rapidly. Shen Heng grabbed a nearby wooden plank, looked at Shen Yisui, and said, his face pale, "Don't leave either, I have things to do..."

Another shell struck, reducing several rooms on the top floor to dust. The deafening sound nearly pierced their eardrums, and the entire building collapsed with a roar.

Cheng Jingyi could no longer stand. He grabbed Shen Yisui's clothes and glanced at the scene downstairs out of the corner of his eye—the ground below had become ruins.

Shen Yisui had not anticipated the current development of events. His pupils turned to Shen Heng from a great distance, and he gripped Cheng Jingyi's clothes tightly with one hand.

Cheng Jingyi didn't give them any more chances to talk nonsense. He grabbed Shen Yisui by the back of the head and, in the gap between the tilting and collapsing of the building, pulled him and jumped out of the window.

"elder brother--"

Shen Heng's voice froze in the air and quickly disappeared from earshot. Ignoring the large boulder falling from above, he immediately ran towards the window.

"Shen Heng! Come back!"

Another angry shout rang out, and Shen Heng turned his head to see the boulder crashing down on him. A figure quickly appeared from within, tackled Shen Heng to the ground, and rolled with him around the corner.

Shen Heng felt a dull, unbearable pain all over his body. At the critical moment, his adjutant stood in front of him and blocked most of the falling boulders.

"Shen Yisui...don't leave..."

Shen Heng forcefully pushed away the boulder on his body and struggled to his feet. Through the swirling dust, he looked ahead. Everywhere were piles of rubble and broken bricks; there was no trace of any other living person.

Shen Heng heard the military alarm sounding behind him. He frowned, and a dark cloud settled over his eyes.

Shen Yisui pulled Cheng Jingyi out of the pile of rocks. Cheng Jingyi had fallen quite hard this time, and Shen Yisui couldn't see his facial expression, only hearing his deliberately suppressed heavy breathing.

Shen Yi casually touched several important parts of his body; none of his bones were broken, but he had been shot again in the chaos.

"Get on, I'll carry you." The military had sent out quite a few searchers, so Shen Yisui didn't dare to linger and simply squatted down in front of Cheng Jingyi.

Cheng Jingyi's lips were completely bloodless. Seeing this, he hesitated for a few seconds before climbing onto Shen Yisui's back: "Can your little body handle this?"

"...Stop talking nonsense." Shen Yisui stood up with Cheng Jingyi on his back. He estimated Cheng Jingyi's weight and found that it was still within his capacity. "Give me directions."

Cheng Jingyi didn't say anything more. He used his special ability to sense the layout of the surrounding space and briefly told Shen Yisui about the safety arrangements.

“Go through the alley ahead, and after 500 meters, head west... that's close to the base camp.”

Shen Yi nodded. Hearing Cheng Jingyi's voice, he quickly moved closer to the place Cheng Jingyi pointed to.

Their ultimate goal is the base camp. However, a new zombie king has now taken over the base camp, and the level of threat is still uncertain.

Shen Yisui ultimately found a secluded cave near the main camp to hide in in preparation for their next move.

Cheng Jingyi's forehead was covered in cold sweat. Shen Yisui dug out the bullet from his chest and then simply used the medical bandages he had obtained in exchange for his survival to bandage the wound.

"Does it still hurt?" Shen Yisui's pain hadn't subsided, but he hadn't been hit by the boulder because he had been protected. His bones were just numb and he had a dull ache that was hard to describe.

As he spoke, his hand traced down Cheng Jingyi's chest and abdomen, and he noticed that Cheng Jingyi had accumulated quite a few more wounds on his body recently.

Old wounds and new scars alternate, never truly healed.

Cheng Jingyi's lips were chapped. He grasped Shen Yisui's wrist and chuckled nonchalantly, "It's rare to hear you say that."

Shen Yisui's pupils shifted: "How so?"

"You feel sorry for me." Cheng Jingyi raised her chin. "You've never asked me that before."

"..." Shen Yisui found it somewhat amusing, "Asking you if it hurts means I'm worried about you?"

"if not?"

Cheng Jingyi's thinking was always very simple. Asking him meant he cared about him, and caring naturally made him feel sorry for him. To put it another way, if he didn't ask, he certainly wouldn't feel sorry for him. Since Shen Yisui asked, then he still felt sorry for him.

Shen Yisui didn't think as much as Cheng Jingyi. He sat down next to Cheng Jingyi and bit his lip when he heard this: "Then you're right, I do feel very sorry for you."

Cheng Jingyi lowered his eyelashes, and Shen Yisui's breath fell on the tip of his nose, also carrying the slight coolness of the night.

"Why?" he asked.

Shen Yisui smiled and said, "You know why."

"I'll only know if you tell me." Cheng Jingyi wrapped her arms around Shen Yisui's waist. Their lips were already wet from being touched by each other's tongues, painful yet burning. "Why?"

Shen Yisui suddenly intensified his kiss, and Cheng Jingyi pressed the back of his head against the wall behind him. He narrowed his eyes and pressed his lips against the back of Shen Yisui's neck as he opened and closed his mouth.

Their kisses were always haphazard and devoid of tenderness; their tongues would just dart around, causing each other pain.

"Why..." Shen Yi opened his eyes between their breaths. His gray pupils seemed to be covered by a layer of mist that was not clear. He bit Cheng Jingyi's tongue lightly.

"Why do you ask me? Cheng Jingyi, after I died... why did you come out of headquarters to look for me?"

As Shen Yisui's chest rose and fell, he traced the muscle texture of Cheng Jingyi's back inch by inch with his palm. His voice lost its steadiness and contained a hidden resentment.

“I’m actually not well-behaved at all…you know, I’m just pretending. Shen Yisui isn’t me, and I’m not Shen Yisui, I’m Shen Cheng…”

Cheng Jingyi sensed the change in the atmosphere in front of her. Shen Yisui's words became more and more incoherent, but there was always a hint of awkwardness in them.

"Ah... Shen Yisui, you don't actually think that I took you in at the beginning because of your so-called Shen Yisui face?"

Cheng Jingyi suddenly spoke. The darkness they were in was so intense that they could barely see each other's faces. Only their bodies remained nestled together, their friction already warm.

Shen Yisui remained silent.

"What are you thinking about?" Cheng Jingyi grabbed Shen Yisui's wrist and pressed Shen Yisui's hand against his chest without saying a word. There was an old scar there, close to his heart.

"Shen Yisui, zombie number 0815, do you know him?"
