Defeat the system! Kiss my little monster!

Chapter 120 Succession to the Throne

The explosions brought news of Sean's death, marking the end of the entire war.

Sean immolated himself in his stronghold, and his remains were eventually taken back to the palace by the female warrior. Ryan, who had already died, also turned to ashes along with him; their ashes were mixed together and placed before the Insect Emperor.

The Insect Emperor's face was grim. He knocked over the urn and coughed incessantly: "Bring Aran here...bring Aran here!"

The female insects serving them were terrified. They helped the insect emperor to the inner palace and ordered the guards outside to fetch Aran.

Arran entered the inner hall slowly. During the days he was under house arrest, his old illness had relapsed, and his heart palpitations had drained all the color from his lips and face.

The Insect Emperor lay on the bed, his breathing faintly audible in the air, sometimes clear, sometimes shallow, like a thin thread about to break, which would then disappear without a trace.

The guards were not allowed to enter the inner palace; they remained outside the door. Aran entered alone, a single insect. The Insect Emperor dismissed the female insects who served him. His cheeks were sunken as he lay on the bed, staring blankly at the dark air above.

Aran knelt on one knee before his bed: "Father."

The Insect Emperor was emaciated, his rusty pupils turned to Aran, and his hoarse voice was still majestic: "Aran... I don't know why you are like this, but now... cough cough... I can pass the throne to you."

Aran's expression remained unchanged.

After Sean's death, the Insect Emperor had no other choice. The Mulihera family would not relinquish the throne to the remaining Insects, so the Insect Emperor could only pass the throne to the remaining female Insect princes.

And Aran is the best among them.

“The Zerg are in chaos now, and there are countless Zerg with ulterior motives.” The Zerg Emperor tried to sit up, but he was too weak. Seeing this, Aran reached out and helped him up.

The Insect Emperor managed to sit up with the help of the wall. He continued, "Colin must be eliminated. You'll have many opportunities to deal with these later. Now, you must eliminate the insect that poses the greatest threat to you..."

Aran's arm stiffened. He looked up at the Insect Emperor, his Adam's apple bobbing twice: "Father, who are you talking about?"

The shadows in the Insect Emperor's eyes had not yet faded; his pupils were lifeless, and his voice was hoarse yet strangely powerful.

"Adrien."

Arran stopped in his tracks, his back tense, and said, "Father, Adrian is my friend, and he has helped me a lot during this time. I cannot..."

"You're confused!" The Insect Emperor coughed incessantly, his hands gripping the edge of the bed, veins bulging on the back of his hands. "He's making you pave the way for him! Sean was driven to his death by him! Think about how much military power he has now, and how much you have!"

Aran pursed her lips and didn't say anything more.

"As long as he lives, the Zerg will never be at peace. Unfortunately, my days are numbered. After you kill him, I will give you the decree of succession." The Zerg Emperor stared at Aran and said, word by word.

Aran was stunned for a moment. He raised his head and met the Insect Emperor's sinister eyes again. Those scarlet eyes had been watching his every move, intimidating him step by step since he was a child, causing Aran to suffer in countless nights.

“No…” Aran’s lips trembled slightly. His eyes were dry as he looked at the Insect Emperor, and he took a step back abruptly. “I will not do this! You murdered your brother and son, and you are tyrannical by nature. I will not be like you!”

The Insect Emperor's eyes glared furiously, the bloodshot veins within them menacing: "What did you say?! Aran, you've gone too far!"

"Sean wasn't driven to his death by Adrian, he was driven to his death by you! You killed his child, you killed his queen, and now you've driven him to self-immolation! It's all your fault!"

Aran stood up, his throat aching, and he frowned deeply: "Even if you pass the throne to me today, after I die, I will return the throne to the late emperor's lineage. Father, you should repent to the late emperor."

"You! You..." The Insect Emperor seemed to be extremely angry. His finger pointed at Aran, trembling uncontrollably. With a sudden movement, the entire insect tumbled off the bed. "You wretched creature...you wretched creature...take him away and beat him to death...come, insect..."

Aran stood inside the house without reacting. The Insect Emperor was still struggling in his death throes. He gripped Aran's trouser leg tightly, and his voice gradually faded away amidst his angry shouts.

The guards outside had already heard the commotion. They trembled slightly but then returned to their positions as if they hadn't heard anything.

A few minutes later, the Insect Emperor's voice disappeared inside the room.

Aran felt as if frost had seeped into his very bones. He stood motionless in the room for a long time until the Insect Emperor's body temperature disappeared, then he squatted down and carried the Insect Emperor's corpse back to the bed.

Even as the Insect Emperor lay dying, his eyes remained wide open, bloodshot and menacing. Aran glanced at him and then closed his eyes.

The door to the inner chamber opened, and Fabian entered. The air was thick and murky. Fabian frowned, then knelt on one knee beside Arran.

"Your Majesty, the war is over."

Arran's eyelashes trembled slightly. He looked at Fabian and blinked. His thin eyelids closed and then opened again. Arran stood up and looked at the large expanse of golden light shining in the doorway. His eyes gradually cleared.

"Yes, it's all... over."

After the Insect Emperor's death, Aran ascended the throne.

After ascending the throne, he deliberately emphasized the shared glory within the Murihela royal family, highlighting his brotherly relationship with Colin and Maurice, and reinstating them to the family genealogy.

Colin, having distinguished himself in the previous war, returned to his post in the military. Morris, with his outstanding military achievements, was promoted to general.

Fabian also benefited from this, as Arran took him under his wing and exceptionally appointed him as an assistant minister without real power, assisting him daily.

Adrian finally breathed a sigh of relief. He lay in the rocking chair, basking in the sun, experiencing for the first time the relatively warm sunlight on the Imperial Star.

The creature, clinging to his head and drowsy, thought of the thousand yang energy points he owed it and returned them all after it had been accumulated to its full value.

It was smugly pleased with itself for clinging to life. It accepted all the Yang energy points and said, "You need to work harder. I've calculated the time for you. At your current speed, you'll be able to accumulate 5000 in less than three months."

Adrian nodded to himself and said, "Don't worry, even without your supervision, I will continue to do it."

Gouqietousheng patted Adrian on the head, finally discovering one of the few good qualities Adrian possessed that he shared with Pei Du—diligence.

Adrian didn't ask how long Gouqie would stay here. He didn't care about such things. He only felt a slight sadness when he thought about parting: "Little Gouqie, every time I see you, it will be the last time we meet."

To live a life of ignominy: "..."

"Adrian, don't be too sad. We'll meet again someday."

Adrian asked in surprise, "...Really? You're coming back?"

It barely managed to survive by twisting the sphere around, then pretended to be profound and refused to answer again.

"You'll see later. I'll introduce you to some new friends then."

In the fifth year after Aran ascended the throne, his old illness recurred. The illness he had since childhood reached its peak that year, with multiple complications, and Aran suffered several unexplained cardiac arrests.

Fabian stayed by Aran's side, trying every possible method, but to no avail.

The Zerg priest had prophesied that Arran's fate would be fraught with hardship, and that he would not live past the age of twenty-four. Now, with Fabian's help, he had been able to prolong his life for a few more years, but ultimately, it was all in vain.

Aran sensed his days were numbered. After much deliberation, he ordered the throne to be passed to Adrian. Maurice was Adrian's only female ruler, and Aran's action ensured that the throne remained in the hands of the Murihera royal family.

After days of suffering from illness, Aran was reduced to skin and bones. He vomited blood every day, and his skin began to ulcerate irreversibly.

On the day he died, his eyes were open, constantly looking to the side. He couldn't see anything; it was completely dark all around him. He had lost all his senses several days earlier.

“Fabian, after I die, you must do your best to assist Adrian.” Arran gripped Fabian’s hand tightly, so hard that Fabian’s hand turned blue and purple. “You cannot leave the Zerg for five years.”

Fabian grasped Arran's hand in return. Arran's face was contorted as she spoke, revealing her inner pain without any attempt to conceal it.

Fabian's eyes reddened slightly. He chuckled softly and said, "Your Majesty, you are... truly heartless towards me."

For some reason, Aran was overcome with sorrow. He pressed his cheek tightly against Fabian's arm, as if he felt resentment or resentment.

"If you and I could have insect offspring..."

Fabian froze, lowering his eyes. Aran's voice faded, and she had stopped breathing in his arms.

Fabian leaned forward, put his arm around Arran's upper body, and pressed his palm against the back of his head.

He closed his eyes and swallowed the bitter taste in his throat.

It lingered in the air, watching everything that happened below, until Aran died completely before falling down.

A faint red light appeared on Aran's body, and soon after, a tiny fragment of his soul floated out from his body.

He barely managed to put the soul fragment into the system. As it left, the sphere rotated, watching Fabian without reacting for a long time.

Its data fluctuated, rising in a zigzag pattern, then falling before returning to a straight line.

It turned and left this world.
