Chapter 428 Who Should I Trust?
"I hope so." Fei Peng nodded slightly, but thought to himself, "If Lao Li is really a traitor, then every step from here on out will be extremely dangerous."
Just as they were walking towards a dimly lit corner, Old Li's phone rang again. He answered it, looking uneasy, and then surprisingly handed the phone to Fei Peng. "Take it, Fei Peng, and hear what this friend has to say."
Fei Peng's heart tightened. He took the phone, his voice tinged with doubt. "Hello?"
"Feipeng, be careful. Old Li isn't what you think he is." A strange voice came from the other end of the phone, deep and urgent. "He might have betrayed you!"
"What?" A chill ran through Fei Peng's heart, and he almost dropped his phone. Countless thoughts flashed through his mind: Had all his trust been a mistake?
"He's secretly investigating your movements, so be careful," the man said urgently. "I know you're investigating the missing persons case, but Old Li might be involved!"
Fei Peng's heart was in turmoil, and he felt a sudden sense of suffocation. He looked up at Old Li and saw that his face was pale, as if he had realized the seriousness of the situation.
Huang Feipeng felt as if he had fallen into an abyss, the voice from the other end of the phone echoing in his mind. Although he didn't want to believe it, the doubt felt like an invisible blade, piercing his once unwavering faith. He turned and quickly walked towards Xiaoya, thinking to himself, "I can't trust Lao Li anymore. Just how many secrets is he hiding?"
"Xiaoya, let's go! We have to get out of here immediately." Feipeng tried his best to sound calm, but his anxiety was palpable. His hands trembled slightly, and his eyes flickered with unease.
"Feipeng, what happened?" Xiaoya followed closely behind, her brows furrowed, her confusion gradually replaced by worry.
"I just received a call from an unknown number." Fei Peng quickly recounted what had happened, trying to be concise but not wanting to make Xiao Ya too nervous. "He told me that Lao Li might not be trustworthy."
Xiaoya's face turned pale instantly. She bit her lower lip, looking somewhat lost. "But Old Li has always been helping us, why would he betray us?"
"I don't know, but we have to leave this place first." Fei Peng felt a surge of anxiety, and the more he thought about it, the more suspicious Old Li's attitude seemed. Just now, in the corner of the bar, he vaguely felt that there was some unknown secret hidden in Old Li's eyes.
They quickly made their way through the noisy crowd. Fei Peng kept looking back to check on Lao Li's movements, his mind on high alert. His thoughts raced like a tide: "Why did Lao Li betray me? What is he doing?" But the deeper his suspicions grew, the more powerless and lost Fei Peng felt.
Xiaoya followed closely behind Feipeng, her heart filled with unease. She kept asking herself, "Is Lao Li really a bad person? Why do I always feel like he's hiding something?" But she didn't want to believe that Lao Li was their enemy, because in her mind, Lao Li was a helpful and loyal friend. This inner conflict tormented her.
"Quick! Get to that street up ahead, we can find a place to hide," Fei Peng said in a low voice, trying to keep himself calm. Even so, his mind was still unsettled, as if bound tightly by an invisible force.
They entered a small alley, the dimness of which gave Feipeng a sense of security. "No one's around for now, we can think about what to do next." He took a breath, trying to clear his head.
"Xiaoya, do you think we should still trust Lao Li?" Feipeng suddenly asked, thinking to himself, "If Xiaoya still insists on believing in him, what should I do?"
Xiaoya hesitated for a moment, then slowly shook her head: "I...I don't know. I'm also very worried about what he might do." Her voice trembled slightly, sounding very vulnerable. "What if we really went the wrong way?"
"I will do my best to protect you. No matter what happens, I won't let you get hurt." Fei Peng patted Xiao Ya's shoulder, trying to make her feel safe, but in his heart, a storm was raging. His heart was filled with helplessness: "This is all so absurd. Why did I get involved in such a crisis?"
Just then, Feipeng's phone rang again. His heart skipped a beat when he saw that the caller ID showed it was Lao Li's number. He hesitated for a moment, then ultimately chose to reject the call. At this point, he no longer wanted any contact with Lao Li. "We must remain vigilant," he told Xiaoya, his tone firm. "No matter what happens, I won't let myself fall into a trap."
"But what should we do? If Lao Li is really our enemy, will he come after us?" Xiaoya asked worriedly, her eyes flashing with unease.
“I don’t know, but we have to find a safe place and figure out what’s going on first.” Fei Peng thought to himself, “If Lao Li is really doing something behind the scenes, I have to find out his intentions and not let him lead me by the nose.”
They walked cautiously through the alley, the surroundings quiet and oppressive, save for a gentle breeze that brought a touch of coolness. Fei Peng's thoughts returned to Old Li: "What exactly is he planning? Why is he hiding that information?"
Just then, Fei Peng's phone vibrated again. He quickly checked it and found it was an unknown number. His heart tightened: "Could it be Lao Li's accomplice again?" But in an instant, he thought of the previous call. Curiosity and fear intertwined in his heart, and he finally answered the call.
"Feipeng, we don't have time. Old Li is plotting something." The voice on the other end of the phone sounded again, tinged with urgency and anxiety. "He's going to put you in even greater danger. Get away from him now!"
"Who are you?" Fei Peng was shocked, his voice rising several decibels, filled with vigilance. "Why are you telling me all this?"
"I just want to protect you. Do you believe me now? Old Li is using your trust to gain more benefits." The other party's tone was urgent, as if he was desperately trying to persuade him.
Fei Peng's heart was in turmoil: "Is this true or false? Who should I believe?" But he could not ignore the invisible pressure, as if something was forcing him to uncover the truth.
"Xiaoya, we have to leave here immediately." Feipeng's voice became firm. "Old Li might really be doing something behind the scenes. We can't stay any longer."
"But Feipeng, where are we going?" Xiaoya asked hurriedly, her eyes filled with deep worry.
"I don't know, but I must stay away from Lao Li." Fei Peng took a deep breath and made up his mind: "Even if the road ahead is full of darkness, I will find a way out."
