Mercenaries in Two Worlds

Chapter 23 The Terrifying Green Dragon Lizard

The gray rock rat is only the size of a hedgehog, with extremely short forelimbs and unusually small paws; it needs to cradle a large piece of meat. However, it eats quite quickly, its mouth never stopping, and in no time, a large piece of meat is gone.

With his hands tucked in, he stood up straight, his back ramrod straight, staring longingly at the roasting meat on the campfire, wanting to eat more.

Zhang Qian was charmed by the gray rock rat's appearance and couldn't help but throw it another piece of meat.

"Chirp chirp chirp." The gray rock rat chirped happily and quickly ran over, picked up the meat and started gnawing on it. After it swallowed the meat, it fell backward to the ground with its big belly bulging. It struggled a few times but couldn't get up. Finally, it gave up, let out a long sigh, and remained motionless, probably giving up on struggling. It was as cute and silly as could be.

Wang Yi chuckled, "This gray rock rat is really stupid. It's so fat, it must taste delicious."

"Squeak squeak squeak." The gray rock rat panicked when it saw Wang Yi approaching, squeaking incessantly and frantically shaking its limbs. However, having eaten too much, it was like a turtle that had been flipped over, unable to get up at all.

Wang Yi didn't really want to eat it. He poked the gray rock rat's bulging belly with his finger and laughed, "You really can eat a lot." This poke scared the timid gray rock rat so much that it urinated, and a stream of yellow liquid came out.

"Hahaha." Wang Yi laughed as if he had successfully pulled off a prank, and pinched its head. "Just kidding." He grabbed the roasted meat and simply sat down next to the gray rock rat to eat, with meat scraps constantly falling down.

The gray rock rat kept glancing at Wang Yi out of the corner of its eye. It was initially terrified, but the smell of roasted meat made its mouth water again. It stuck out its tongue, trying to reach the meat that had fallen to the ground, but it just couldn't reach it. It was getting anxious…

Zhang Qian, standing to the side, was speechless. This gray rock rat was definitely the most gluttonous and reckless creature he had ever seen.

The next day, the gray rock rat, having tasted the roasted meat, clung to Zhang Qian's clothes and refused to come down, becoming attached to him.

"Alright, alright, I won't kick you out. Just stop grabbing my clothes like that," Zhang Qian said helplessly to Hui Yanshui, who was still clinging to him tightly.

"Chi chi chi chi."

"Okay, I got it. Just leave it hanging like that!"

This gray rock rat is a real oddball; it likes to hang like a pendant from the hem of Zhang Qian's clothes. Wang Yi suppressed a laugh, "Since you understand animal language, why don't you ask it if it has ever seen the Red Gardenia burl or the Frost Jade Grass?"

"Okay, little gray, have you ever seen a red gardenia burl? It looks like this." Zhang Qian gestured to the gray rock rat, but the rat still looked blank. This gray rock rat seemed to have no skills other than being cute.

Wang Er spat, "What a stupid rat, all it does is eat."

With the gray rock rat leading the way, the two rarely encountered any savage beasts along the way. These gray rock rats had no other skills, but they were timid and cowardly, and were very sensitive to the unusual scents of savage beasts, so they would stay far away from them.

Lured by the barbecue, Little Grey was practically drunk, rushing on without stopping and constantly chirping and calling out anxiously ahead.

After a day of travel, the two men and the rat wound their way through several small canyons and finally arrived at a secluded valley. Little Gray "wine" suddenly woke up and, as if sensing something was amiss, scurried into Zhang Qian's arms, trembling.

Wang Er frowned deeply. "Little Gray's reaction is so strong, what kind of savage beast is in the valley?"

"Don't act rashly. Let's observe first. Little Gray said there's a fourth-tier savage beast."

"Fourth-tier? Are you kidding me? That's equivalent to the Fusion Realm. Let's go! Let's go! Forget about it." Upon hearing that it was a fourth-tier beast, Wang Er turned around and left without saying another word.

"Don't leave yet. Let's see if there's a chance. Little Gray said that this beast goes out to hunt for food at dusk." Zhang Qian wasn't one to give up easily; he hadn't given up yet.

The two quietly hid behind a rock, silently observing the silent valley. No matter how carefully Zhang Qian searched, he couldn't find any wild beasts. If it weren't for Little Grey's trembling paws as it clutched the piece of meat, struggling to put it in its mouth even after several attempts, he would have been tempted to pick the Frost Jade Grass growing sparsely on the outer part of the valley. Five Frost Jade Grasses grew sparsely on that rock.

The Cold Jade Grass is no ordinary herb; it is a third-grade spiritual herb and is said to be a key herb for refining the Jin Yuan Pill, worth a fortune.

Whether it was because the valley was secluded or because of some other unusual phenomenon, such expensive herbs were able to grow in abundance without being picked.

"Awooo~" Just as Zhang Qian was thinking about random things, a deep roar came from the valley. Then, a huge blue lizard with two horns stood up from the green. With a thud, a red light flashed and a huge second-tier ferocious bird flying in the air was swallowed up before it could even scream.

Then the giant lizard slowly lay down and disappeared into the trees as if it had vanished. Even though Zhang Qian knew the lizard was there, he couldn't find it no matter how wide he opened his eyes.

Little Gray was so frightened that it opened its mouth wide, not even noticing that the piece of meat had fallen, its two round little eyes wide open.

Wang Er's mouth dropped open, and he exclaimed, "Green Dragon Lizard! My God, it's a top-tier existence even among fourth-tier savage beasts!"

Zhang Qian searched his mind for information about the Green Dragon Lizard. It was a fourth-tier savage beast, known for its violent nature and skill in stealth and ambushes. It was a formidable creature between fourth and fifth-tier savage beasts and had a certain chance of evolving into a fifth-tier Blue Dragon Thunder Lizard.

With a piercing scream, Little Grey clung to Zhang Qian's arm, eyes closed, trembling uncontrollably.

Even though the distance is very close, the fear of being unexpectedly attacked by a green dragon lizard would be incredibly unfair.

Just as Zhang Qian and his companion were hesitating, the bushes in the woods rustled, and a group of people appeared.

What a small world! It just so happens that they're from the Three Swords Mercenary Group. The two who were taught a lesson by Ye Mei last time are among them, but Zhao Yi isn't. I haven't seen that scoundrel causing trouble lately, I wonder where he went.

The two men were clearly taken aback when they saw Zhang Qian and Wang Er, then their eyes revealed a vicious look. "Hmph, let's collect some interest this time, and next time we'll wipe out the Wang family mercenary group's hideout. Brothers, help me kill these two."

"What the hell?" Zhang Qian was internally screaming. Killing someone without warning? No procedure whatsoever?

After all, they weren't native to the Tianxing Mainland, and their mindset was still rooted in the rule of law of modern society, so they couldn't immediately comprehend this brutal world.

"The Wang Family Mercenary Group, huh? Didn't the leader say they should pay compensation in spirit stones?" asked the leader, a man in the Three Swords Group uniform with a golden flower embroidered on his chest, clearly of high status.

"Hehe, Vice Li, the commander's idea is to make them pay the spirit stones first, and then kill them. You haven't seen that Ye Mei, she's absolutely stunning, even more alluring than the top courtesan of the Fragrant Pavilion." One of the men who went to cause trouble at the Wang family revealed Ci Yan's strategy with a lewd smile.

"Hey." Zhang Qian rolled his eyes. "We're still here. We heard everything."

He was still in the mood to joke, which scared Wang Er half to death.

Zhang Qian wasn't entirely unnerved either, his mind racing as he considered countermeasures. He knew that brute force wouldn't guarantee escape. Perhaps Zhang Qian had a sliver of hope thanks to his footwork, but with that idiot Wang Er, it was uncertain. Zhang Qian's only advantage was that he knew about the Frost Jade Grass and the Green Dragon Lizard behind him, while the Three Swords Mercenary Group didn't.
