Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook
Chapter 90 My roommate got fired
Zhou Min ignored him and continued to preview the content of the lesson.
Just as Zhou Min was engrossed in reading, a cheeky voice came from the side again: "You've only read 20 pages? I've already finished the whole book."
Zhou Min took a deep breath and continued reading. This was why she didn't want to sit with Zhang Kun; he was too sarcastic and always showing off his superiority, which really affected her mood.
Zhou Min suspected that all his attribute points were allocated to intelligence, and his emotional intelligence was probably zero. No, saying zero would be an overestimation; he was probably a negative number. He always managed to make people very unhappy with just a few words.
Just as Zhou Min was pondering the derivation of a formula, he came over again.
"No, I'll explain it to you."
"Get out!" Zhou Min pulled the book to the left again, turning her back to him.
It's no wonder Zhou Min was annoyed with him; there was less than half an hour before class, and Zhou Min had only previewed less than 30 pages of material. University courses were typically two 45-minute sessions combined into one course.
In other words, the math teacher who was coming would be giving them a 90-minute lecture. Judging from the pace of their professional teachers, this teacher would have to cover at least 70 or 80 pages of material in two lessons. How could Zhou Min not be panicked?
Seeing that Zhou Min was ignoring him, Zhang Kun felt bored and could only continue to concentrate on reading the literature.
After Zhou Min finished teaching four classes in a rush, it was finally lunchtime.
When Zhou Min arrived at the canteen, starving, she was shocked by the long queue in front of her.
That's why she hated the fourth period, whether it was the fourth period in the morning or the fourth period in the afternoon.
If you're in class until the last period, you have to wait in line for at least half an hour to get food in the cafeteria. Today, probably because it's the first day of school, the line is exceptionally long, and Zhou Min suspects she might not be able to get any food until the first period in the afternoon.
Just as Zhou Min was debating whether to eat off-campus, her phone suddenly rang. She picked it up and saw a message from Zhang Kun: "What do you want to eat?"
"Eat whatever you can get! Are you at the front of the line?" Zhou Min quickly replied with a message.
Because the line for food was very long, Zhou Min turned to look ahead and saw a sea of people, so she couldn't see Zhang Kun's location.
She prefers to eat in the cafeteria rather than go out. This is mainly because the school is very large, and it takes a lot of time to go to a restaurant off-campus from her classroom or dormitory.
"Wait for me in section D, there are empty seats there," Zhang Kun quickly sent another message.
Starving, Zhou Min quickly followed Zhang Kun's instructions and ran to section D of the cafeteria to find an empty seat.
Zhou Min looked back along the line of students getting food and found that the students in line had already moved outside the cafeteria.
School has just started, and it's not even the end of the first month of the lunar calendar yet. The outdoor temperature is still below minus ten degrees Celsius. Zhou Minguang couldn't help but shiver just thinking about it.
"Quick, quick, take this." Just as Zhou Min was lost in thought, Zhang Kun finally came over with two trays.
Zhou Min quickly stood up, took a plate, and began to eat heartily.
Zhang Kun served a generous amount of food. Zhou Min realized she had only eaten less than half of it after she was half full. In order not to waste food, Zhou Min patiently finished the rest.
Although I ended up feeling stuffed, it was much better than the empty, starving feeling I had before.
Zhou Min was too full to move, so she simply sat in the chair and continued chatting with Zhang Kun.
"Why are you so far ahead in line today?" It's no wonder Zhou Min was curious. The main reason is that their classrooms are far from the cafeteria. Even though Zhou Min has an electric scooter, there's always a long line ahead of her when she gets there.
"To the front? I always do it this way!" Zhang Kun asked, as if it were commonplace.
"Aren't you moving to the front? When I got there, the line was already all the way to the door!"
"Are you stupid? Couldn't you have come to the cafeteria 10 minutes earlier?" Zhang Kun looked at Zhou Min with an expression as if she were an idiot.
Zhou Min stared in shock, her eyes wide. Could this really be done?
Zhou Min didn't sit with Zhang Kun during the third and fourth periods, so she didn't know when he left. Of course, she hadn't noticed before either.
"Think about it, if you leave 10 minutes early, you can save at least half an hour of queuing time. If you get back to your dorm half an hour earlier, you can make up for the classes you missed. So, when you do the math, don't you think you're getting a better deal?"
"..." Zhou Min felt like her worldview had been shattered. She had always thought that the students in her class were all hardworking and competitive, but it turned out they were strategic.
Zhou Min felt as if a door to another world had been opened. Just as she returned to her dormitory full of ambition, she suddenly discovered that Mao Yating's bed was already empty.
"Wow, that's incredibly efficient! They moved out so quickly!" Zhou Min said as she took off her coat.
"Yeah, she moved yesterday. I reckon the school is going to punish her pretty severely; her mom looked really upset yesterday," Jiang Fei said nervously as she leaned closer.
Just then, before Zhou Min could even speak, Feng Pinling dropped a bombshell.
"Mao Yating has been fired."
"what?"
"No way?"
Zhou Min and Jiang Fei were both shocked. Although universities deal with cheating on exams very strictly, judging from the video footage from that day, Mao Yating was just looking around, seemingly trying to cheat. There was no substantial evidence to prove that she had copied anything.
Moreover, as a freshman, if you admit your mistake and show a good attitude, the school will usually give you a chance and deal with it leniently. Most of the time, you will be given a demerit or placed on probation. It is rare for you to be expelled directly.
Given her family's connections, there's no way she would be expelled, right?
"We have to thank your teacher, Ms. Gong, for this!" Feng Pinling said sarcastically.
Zhou Min paused, glanced at Jiang Fei, and saw that she looked just as bewildered as she did. She couldn't help but ask, "What does this have to do with Teacher Gong?"
"Ha, you have no idea how much power your teacher, Mr. Gong, wields. During the winter break, the school called all of us, the students admitted through special programs and those with special talents, back to school for a second written and oral exam. Many students who failed the assessment were expelled."
Feng Pinling was tormented throughout the winter break and felt utterly disgusted. The teacher she hates most now is Ms. Gong, Zhou Min's teacher, without a doubt.
"That's so exaggerated?!" Zhou Min and Jiang Fei both found it unbelievable.
"The higher-ups just open their mouths, while the people below run themselves ragged. Do you have no idea how we spent this winter break? How many students have had their lives ruined because of his casual remark?"
"Is it really that big of a deal?" Zhou Min never expected the matter to escalate to this extent, but she still couldn't help but say a few words in defense of Teacher Gong.
In Zhou Min's view, Teacher Gong is a very serious and upright teacher, and there must be a reason for what he does.
"How could it not be? This review includes all the students admitted through special programs and those with special talents from freshman to junior year. Just imagine how those juniors feel when they are expelled?"
If Zhou Min was so angry at Feng Pinling, who had passed the re-examination, how much must the students who failed hate Teacher Gong?
Thinking of this, Zhou Min couldn't help but feel worried for Teacher Gong.
