Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook
Chapter 37: Classes Divided Again
This was the first time in Zhou Min's life that she had worked so hard. This was something she could never have experienced in her previous life.
She was smart from a young age, but she always attended classes with all her classmates in a regular class. She could understand many basic questions at a glance, but the teacher had to explain them repeatedly to students who didn't understand. Zhou Min found this annoying. In addition, she didn't have much knowledge or planning, so she got into the habit of daydreaming or reading extracurricular books when the teacher was lecturing.
When Zhou Min encountered problems she couldn't solve, she would study on her own using the textbook, which fostered her arrogance and laziness. In university, without teachers supervising her or weekly/monthly exams, she had to take exams for all of her dozen or so courses during the final exam week.
Even with Zhou Min's good learning ability, it would be difficult for her to integrate this knowledge in a short period of time. She could barely pass the exams and occasionally snag a few school-level scholarships, but she was far behind those highly self-disciplined top students.
Gradually, Zhou Min got used to being an ordinary person and unknowingly disappeared into the crowd.
Now, in a class full of top students, the teacher teaches at a very fast pace, as if to teach all the knowledge of three years of high school in the first year.
And this was just the beginning. Just one month into the new semester, the school organized a monthly exam, and the exam papers for Zhou Min and her two Olympiad classes were prepared separately.
When Zhou Min received the test paper, she panicked completely. Although she had realized that she was not particularly smart, it was a bit too absurd that she couldn't understand half of the questions in math, which was her best subject.
Zhou Min glanced at the other students in the exam room, all of whom were engrossed in writing, and immediately panicked even more.
Zhou Min took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down before she began to seriously think about the questions. The overall structure of this math exam was quite different from the format of the college entrance exam. The entire paper consisted of 10 long, open-ended questions, with no multiple-choice or fill-in-the-blank questions.
Zhou Min glanced at the questions and found that many of them were beyond the scope of the curriculum. The last two questions even required university-level calculus knowledge, but she had almost forgotten all of her advanced mathematics.
It would have been fine if she hadn't known how to solve the problem, but after finally figuring out the correct solution, she couldn't calculate it because she had forgotten the formulas and theorems. This was unacceptable to Zhou Min.
So, after finishing the questions she knew how to do, Zhou Min started to try to figure out the formulas for the last two big questions based on her vague memory.
Although the theorem was not ultimately derived, Zhou Min discovered an alternative solution to the last two major problems during the derivation process, which was an unexpected surprise.
The physics, chemistry, and biology exams that followed were also completely different. Fortunately, these subjects tested students' breadth of knowledge more. Zhou Min had been to university, and although she had forgotten a lot of the knowledge, her overall knowledge was still much stronger than that of a high school student, so she found them relatively easy.
Zhou Min finally breathed a sigh of relief after all the exams were over. She didn't want to get the lowest score on her first exam of the semester.
However, before they could relax for even two days, the school was about to start reassigning classes again. This time, it was just the two Olympiad classes that were being reassigned based on their exam scores. The school didn't post any announcements; instead, during the break, the teachers called out some students' names and asked them to pack up their belongings and move them to the next classroom during the long break in the morning.
Meanwhile, students from the neighboring classrooms were also gradually carrying their belongings into Class 36's classroom.
"Old Zhu, over here, over here." Zhou Min heard Xu Li's shrill voice, looked up, and saw Zhu Da and Chen Sheng standing at the classroom door with books in their arms.
Because there were no teachers in charge, the scene was chaotic. Students who wanted to leave couldn't find empty seats in the neighboring Class 35, and students in Class 35 couldn't find empty seats in Class 36 either, so they were at a stalemate.
As soon as Xu Li saw Zhu Da, he rushed over to help Zhu Da move his things.
“My deskmate is going to your class too, so you can sit next to me.” Xu Li was very happy to see that his friend was in the same class as him.
"Hi." Zhou Min greeted Zhu Da with a smile, and then looked at Chen Sheng behind Zhu Da.
He was still the same as always, a little self-conscious and a little arrogant. He watched as Zhu Da was led away by Xu Li, but he didn't ask them for help. Instead, he stood quietly at the door with his heavy books in his arms, without even raising his head to look at Zhou Min and the others.
Zhou Min stared at Chen Sheng for a while, but seeing that he didn't even respond with a glance, she continued to lower her head and read her book. She wasn't going to put up with his stubborn temper; she'd had enough of it in her past life.
"Chen Sheng, here, there's another seat." After settling Zhu Da in, Xu Li immediately found an empty seat next to him and called Chen Sheng over.
Zhou Min looked up and saw Chen Sheng say a few words to the classmate next to him, then lean against the wall, put down the book in his arms, walked over to Zhu Da and Xu Li, and chatted with them for a while with his arms around their shoulders. When he saw that the desks in the classroom were gradually emptying, he went back and found a seat next to his former companion.
Throughout the entire time, there was no interaction between Xu Li and Zhou Min. Even though Zhou Min was sitting right in front of Xu Li, the more Zhou Min thought about it, the more frustrated she became. She clasped her hands together, wondering if this was the love Chen Sheng had spoken of in her past life—a love that started in middle school? Indeed, men's words are deceitful and completely unreliable.
Zhou Min looked up at the back of Chen Sheng's head to her left, watching him chatting leisurely with his deskmate, completely unaffected by the class reassignment. Frustrated, Zhou Min thought, "Looks like I'm taking this too seriously. Maybe in my past life, he just found the right person at the right time to start a family."
"Zhou Min, how many points did you get on your math test this time?" Zhu Da's words interrupted Zhou Min's thoughts. Zhu Da was now Xu Li's deskmate and happened to be sitting to Zhou Min's right and behind.
"Here you go." Zhou Min handed over her test paper directly.
"142!" Zhu Da screamed as soon as he saw the test paper.
"Keep your voice down." Zhou Min couldn't help but glare at Zhu Da when she saw the other students in the classroom looking at them.
"No, I just didn't expect anyone to score so high." The Olympiad class did not announce the results of this exam, but Zhu Da had roughly learned about the scores of his classmates when he was in Class 35. Many people scored in the 20s or 30s in math, so his score of 86 was considered very high.
"That's right, don't you even know who our Sister Min is?" Xu Li was now completely convinced by Zhou Min and was calling her "Sister" all the time.
Zhou Min glanced at Xu Li's fuzzy beard and couldn't help but think to herself, "Someone like you should never call me 'sister,' it makes me sound 10 years older."
"What's the highest score in your class?" Zhu Da was a little surprised. He had always thought that the average scores of classes 35 and 36 should be similar, but he didn't expect the difference in scores for the first monthly exam to be so big.
"I guess it's Sister Min," Xu Li said after a moment's thought.
"Is Sister Min this amazing now?" Zhu Da also called out, "Sister."
However, they did not know that such carefree moments would never come again.
