Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook

Chapter 31 High School Entrance Examination

Although she disliked her, Zhou Min didn't want to lower herself to her level. After all, she hadn't received any money, and she didn't want to accidentally hurt her feelings and cause trouble for herself.

The high school entrance exam was fast approaching, and the school rented buses in advance to transport all the students to the dormitories of No. 1 High School. No. 1 High School had already vacated its campus to serve as an exam venue, and Zhou Min's school felt that being able to draw No. 1 High School as their exam venue was a good omen.

Zhou Min, Li Na, Lin Xin, Liu Yuanyuan, Liu Lele, and Chen Li shared a dormitory. Dormitories at the school were generally assigned based on academic performance. Chen Li shouldn't have been in this dormitory, but her brother was a teacher at the school, so he used connections to get her into the dormitory.

Zhou Min remembered that she and Chen Li were in the same dormitory in her previous life. However, she was angry every day during the exam and her exam performance was not good. Although she got a free place in the exam, her results were not ideal. At least she could not get into the Olympiad class of the No. 1 Middle School.

Zhou Min only brought a few sets of notebooks she had made and a collection of her mistakes; the rest were personal belongings. Therefore, compared to others whose suitcases were full of books, Zhou Min's luggage was quite light. Zhou Min took out her Chinese language notes and started reviewing them, hoping to get a good score on her first exam tomorrow.

After lunch break, the teacher asked the students to gather downstairs to distribute their admission tickets and to check their exam rooms to avoid going to the wrong one the next day. Zhou Min, holding her admission ticket, noticed Li Na at the classroom door. Zhou Min remembered that in her previous life, she seemed to have taken the exam alone, without any other classmates in the same room. Could she have remembered wrong?

Zhou Min went over and asked, only to find out that Li Na had come specifically to check out her exam room. Zhou Min knew that Li Na's seat wasn't ideal, right below the podium, and she envied Zhou Min for sitting in the last row. Zhou Min wanted to tell Li Na that the last row and the first row were actually the same, because for large exams like these, usually there were two proctors, one sitting in the front row and the other in the back, or one in either the front or back row while the other walked around patrolling. But considering Li Na's current mood, she decided against it, lest she think she was making excuses.

On her way downstairs, Zhou Min ran into Chen Sheng and Xu Lingyuan. She knew they were in the same exam room, and like Li Na, they were in the same building downstairs. After agreeing to meet at the playground the next morning and then come to take the exam together, everyone went back to rest.

While Zhou Min was looking at her notes, Li Na brought her a handful of small walnuts to eat. Zhou Min remembered it was like this in her past life. Although Li Na's family background was similar to hers, she had a very high status in her family. Because her parents left her in their hometown to avoid the one-child policy, Li Na grew up with her grandparents and uncles. After her parents returned with a son, Li Na, driven by a desire for revenge, demanded the best of everything, wanting the finest food and drink. Although her parents were also troubled, they felt guilty and thus fulfilled Li Na's every request.

Like Zhou Min, Li Na was also the eldest granddaughter in her family and the only child. However, Zhou Min grew up with her mother and was raised by her mother and the Zheng family to be a selfless person. But because of the pampering of her grandparents and uncles, she was also quite self-centered. Li Na has always been self-centered, but because she was not with her parents from a young age, she is very sensitive and has high emotional intelligence. In Zhou Min's words, she is hypocritical and selfish.

Zhou Min refused Li Na's small walnuts, saying she didn't like eating walnuts and found it troublesome. Inheriting her father's laziness, Zhou Min refused to eat anything with a shell. Hearing everyone's envy of Li Na, Zhou Min wanted to tell them that the most enviable thing was yet to come. She knew that after starting high school, while everyone else only had 200 yuan a month for living expenses, Li Na received 1000 yuan a month in pocket money. Moreover, her family bought her an apartment in the county town during her senior year of high school—all thanks to her uncle, a bank manager.

Li Na's maternal grandparents' family was the exact opposite of her own. Because Li Na's mother was the youngest, all her older siblings took special care of her, so Li Na's family was always well-off. Also, because her parents had been away for many years to care for their son, her uncles all favored Li Na. Zhou Min heard all this from her gossipy mother.

At that time, while secretly envying how well Li Na's uncle and aunt treated Li Na's family, Zhou's mother also worked even harder to take care of Zhou Min's aunt. Zhou Min could only laugh at this.

After a good night's sleep, Zhou Min and Li Na went to the playground to wait for Chen Sheng and Xu Lingyuan after breakfast the next day. They saw a large group of them arriving, and since it was still early, they decided to look around. Zhou Min declined their invitation and found a quiet corner to review her notes. Although she hadn't studied at this school in her previous life, she had visited countless times out of longing.

As the exam time approached, Zhou Min picked up her pencil case and went into the exam room alone. After receiving the exam paper, she quickly immersed herself in answering the questions. After finishing her essay and checking the paper twice, she glanced at the time; there was still half an hour left. Zhou Min's watch was a gift from her sister Zhang, who hadn't told her the price, but Zhou Min believed it was probably enough for a year's expenses. Therefore, even though she was used to seeing nice things in her past life, Zhou Min cherished it and only used it for this exam.

Zhou Min thought for a moment and decided that sitting there was a waste of time, so she handed in her paper early. Back in her dorm, Zhou Min took a shower, washed and hung her clothes to dry, and lay down on her bed. She felt much refreshed. After resting for a while, Zhou Min heard people starting to return in the hallway. Thinking that Li Na and the others would be back soon, she got up and opened the door.

When Li Na and the others returned, they found that Zhou Min was already in the dormitory. They didn't think much of it and just assumed that Zhou Min had left quickly after finishing her exam.

When Li Na returned, she went straight to Zhou Min and asked her for the answers to the multiple-choice questions. Zhou Min remembered that she had told her the answers in her past life, so she asked Li Na for the answers in return. However, Li Na not only didn't tell her the answers, but also told her not to compare answers with her, as it would affect her mood during the exam. In the end, not only did her classmates ostracize her during the exam, but even her teachers regarded her as a bad apple.

Zhou Min thought about it and felt that there was no need for her to seek revenge. Although she remembered that Li Na had indeed caused her a lot of unhappiness, Li Na had also been good to her in many ways. Even though they gradually lost contact and stopped communicating, there was no major conflict between them. It was just some minor scheming between girls. The most hurtful thing was when she went to No. 4 Middle School, but that was not entirely because of Li Na. In the end, it was Zhou Min's own choice.

Thinking of her friendship with Li Na for more than 20 years, Zhou Min calmly told Li Na her answer, but this time Zhou Min did not ask her any questions in return.
