Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 325 Swiftness

"Huh? There's a fortune teller here? Let's go take a look." Green spotted the old woman dressed as a fortune teller from afar and ran down from Corribo's shoulder.

Many mercenaries also gathered around to have their fortunes told, since people these days tend to be superstitious about such prophecies and believe they can bring good luck and avoid misfortune when traveling.

Green stood in the middle of the line. People around him were still busy. The blond boy had just finished moving the wooden crates. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and seemed to sense that someone was watching him. He looked up into the crowd.

Wait, isn't that...?

"Jacob, please put me in line here." Green said that and ran off to the circus.

“…Young Master?” Jacob was taken aback. Before he could respond, Green had already run off. He shook his head helplessly and could only obediently stand in line to help Green.

"Hey, hello little girl, you look familiar. Have we met somewhere before?" Green looked the child up and down. She was thin and small, with some freckles on her fair face, and she looked quite cute.

"Uh, yes." The blond child seemed startled by Green's bull and took a step back.

Wait, what little girl?

"Hmm, but I can't remember?" Green fell into deep thought.

"Um... I'm a boy." Upon hearing the other person's comment about being a "little girl," the blond child immediately moved away at lightning speed.

"Huh? Uh, sorry, I didn't notice."

"Hey, I didn't mean any harm, you don't need to stay so far away from me." Green sighed, rubbing his forehead. Why did this kid act like he was seeing a monster whenever he saw him?

Come to think of it, why doesn't he remember there being so many handsome young men in Berserk? It seems he should avoid making assumptions in the future...

The blond boy stopped, his eyes still wary, but his tense body relaxed slightly.

"It's okay, people have been admitting their mistakes a lot lately."

"Hmm, I remember you, your name is Green, right?"

Green paused slightly, narrowing his eyes warily: "You know me? But I don't remember you at all."

He looked the other man up and down, pondering to himself that he had always kept his whereabouts secret on this continent and had even served as a servant under Kadi before. How did this thin boy know his name?

The blond boy nervously rubbed the corner of his shirt and said softly, "I overheard you talking to your companion at the market in Wyndam, so..."

His voice trailed off, a flicker of panic crossing his eyes. Of course, he remembered that he had stolen things from people back then.

"...Windam?"

Green fell into deep thought. It seemed that there was a blond boy with little Griffith by his side, but at that time his hair was not that long, and he had been beaten black and blue by Bazzo, so he did not recognize him.

Green's pupils suddenly contracted slightly, and he asked tentatively, "You wouldn't... be someone who's with that Gerry...?"

...a petty thief?

Before he could finish speaking, the blond boy suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with terror and panic. He hurriedly covered Green's mouth and whispered, "Don't...don't say it!"

The biggest taboo in a circus troupe is having a member steal. Having committed theft, which damages the reputation of the industry, is tantamount to ruining one's own livelihood.

Green looked at the blond boy's flushed face, a knowing glint in his eyes.

He gently pried the other person's hands away and lowered his voice, saying, "Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. But how did you end up in the circus troupe? And why do you have such long hair?"

The boy breathed a sigh of relief, his eyes filled with exhaustion: "After I left Wyndam with my father and my seriously ill mother, we were attacked by a group of thieves on the way."

“My father told us to ride our horses and run fast. He stayed behind to lure the bandits away and his whereabouts are still unknown. I was taken in by the leader of this circus troupe while carrying my seriously ill mother.”

"...The troupe leader said I'm agile and suitable for juggling, and I can also help move props. As for my hair, I'm just too lazy to cut it." He subconsciously touched his shoulder-length blond hair, which shimmered softly in the sunlight. Come to think of it, it actually looked a lot like his mother when she was young.

"Besides...don't you also have long hair?"

Green touched the ends of his shoulder-length hair, shook his head with a wry smile: "I was forced to grow this hair when I was a servant, it was said to be a 'standard for nobles,' but now I find it too much trouble to cut it."

"...So you're a nobleman?"

Green waved his hand. "This is a complicated matter to explain. He wasn't a true nobleman; he just served as a servant for a period of time."

He patted the boy on the shoulder and said, "Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Your father might be blessed with good fortune."

The boy forced a smile. "Thank you for your comfort. I'm doing quite well in the circus troupe now. I have food to eat and I can take care of my mother."

"Let's get to know each other again. My name is Jiedu."

“...Jetto? Sounds like a nimble fellow. Nice to meet you.” Green smiled and extended his right hand in a friendly gesture.

Jiedu wasn't exactly an introverted kid, and besides, the person in front of him was about the same age as him, even though their initial acquaintance wasn't exactly pleasant.

The atmosphere eased after they shook hands; it was unexpected to run into an acquaintance in this remote city of Gaojia.

Just then, Jacob's voice came from not far away: "Young master, come quickly, it'll be our turn soon!"

Green responded and said to Jiedu, "I'm going to do some divination now. I'll come back to see you later. If you have any difficulties, come find me at the tavern. I'll be there these days."

Jiedu nodded: "Okay, you go ahead and get busy, I need to load these onto the carriage too."

Green ran back to the group, and soon it was his and Jacob's turn to have their fortunes told.

They approached the fortune teller, who smiled and asked, "What would you two like to have divined?"

After a moment's thought, Green said, "Grandma, I'd like to ask if the rest of the journey will go smoothly." Jacob nodded in agreement with Green's idea.

The old woman smiled and nodded, then took out an antique tarot deck and a black tablecloth from a cloth bag beside her. She gently shuffled the cards with both hands, her movements skillful and fluid, while muttering incantations.

After shuffling the cards, the old woman gestured for Green and Jacob to wait a moment, then closed her eyes, seemingly sensing some kind of mysterious power.

After a while, she slowly opened her eyes and gestured for Green to draw seven cards from the shuffled deck and arrange them on the table in the shape of wine glasses.

After the tarot cards were turned over one by one, the fortune teller narrowed her eyes slightly. The Queen of Wands, symbolizing composure, indicates that the journey will encounter unclean demons and an unchangeable reversed star. The reversed V of Cups in the fourth card symbolizes a disappointing past, while the fifth card represents that the crisis of the past has been resolved and the constraints have been broken.

As for the card number 6... it doesn't mean anything special. I guess this kid will be a restless traveler for a while.

The 7th card is the conclusion of this divination, a reversed Planet II card that is too chaotic to be considered comprehensively.

"Alas, your journey this time will likely encounter unpredictable unclean things, young man," the fortune teller sighed.
