Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 28 Military Life

............

As the first rooster crowed in the castle, waking the dawn, Green had already packed his things, mounted his horse, and was ready to set off with Cadi to the White Dragon Knights' camp.

Despite many of them getting drunk last night, they still had to get here to begin their journey to base camp.

"Why aren't all the people here yet?"

"Alright, we finally won a game, let them sleep, let's go back to base camp first."

"White Dragon Knights, return to camp!!"

Yuris reorganized his army and led a group of white dragon knights back to camp on the open ground below the castle, ready to protect the castle and the royal family above. It looked somewhat dilapidated when no one was around, but from today onwards it would be bustling with activity.

Because the White Dragon Knights have returned.

The whole day was spent setting up tents and tidying up the open space. It was a very tiring day, but thankfully the food in the army was not bad. The bread and boiled dried meat were not too bad.

Green and Baziso lived in one tent, with Cadi's tent right behind them for easy summoning; knights all had their own individual tents.

A rare peaceful day.

............

"No, I'm not using my waist strength at all!"

"...We haven't taken enough steps."

"No, absolutely not..."

Looking at Bazzo, who was full of weaknesses, Green shook his head. He could sense that Bazzo had many flaws even before they had fought.

“You’ll understand when you fight him.” Green also picked up his wooden sword and stood opposite Bazso.

"...Boss?"

"Come, let me teach you how to fight!" Green's thrust left Bazso unable to defend himself, and the tip of his wooden sword pierced Bazso to the ground.

"You'll be the one to attack this time!"

Bazso scrambled to his feet, his anger rising, and attacked with all his might, hacking and slashing.

Green blocked the attack and shifted some of the force, swinging the sword in Bazso's hand to his side. He didn't have to bear much of the force, and because his legs were unsteady, Bazso could only let his momentum carry him forward in a disheveled stagger.

With a sweeping sword, Bazso could only clutch his side and fall to the ground, howling in pain.

"No, you shouldn't be this weak. You're not using your full strength."

I thought that Bazso's 21 points of strength exceeded my own by 5 points, and that it would at least make my hands hurt, but it turned out that it was not the case at all.

“Boss…” Baziso sat on the ground, somewhat dejected. He had been practicing for three days but had made no progress at all.

"Try a different weapon. Maybe a greatsword isn't for you." He thought of the battle axe that Bazso used at the beginning of the game. Perhaps only axe-type weapons were more suitable for him.

We found a large wooden axe in the field, which weighed about two or three pounds.

"Let's give it a try this time."

............

"Bang!" "Bang!"

"Haha, this axe feels really good to use!"

Having found a suitable weapon, Bazso fought with increasing ferocity. This time, he was finally able to exchange a few blows with Green, and the feeling of swinging the axe was simply amazing!

"Thump!" "Snap!"

Sure enough, this guy is really suited to wielding an axe. The power he displayed was on a completely different level compared to before, and his speed was even a bit faster.

Green's hands were a little numb, and the way Bazzo swung his axe felt like a giant bear that was hard to approach.

However, it is clear that they are not yet proficient enough, and they would be able to handle it with ease.

"Drink!!!" Green suddenly sprang up and exerted his strength, his eyes seemingly filled with killing intent as he stared intently at Bazzo's weapon.

The wooden sword slashed sharply at the wooden axe, cutting the large-headed, light-bodied axe handle in two. Then, using the remaining force, the sword was placed on the shoulders of both hands to gather power for a final slash.

Bazso seemed to panic for a moment when the axe was chopped off, as if he were on a battlefield where life and death were decided. The boss's serious eyes showed that if he did nothing now, he really would kill him!

Bazso could only muster all his courage and try to make his body react immediately, sweating profusely. He used almost all his strength to kneel down and press the wooden axe, which had turned into a stick, firmly against his head.

"Snapped!!!"

"!!!"

The moment the wooden sword shattered the wooden stick, Bazso tightly closed his eyes, bracing himself for the pain to come.

The expected pain did not come. Instead, it felt as if a strong wind had just blown over his head, and he could still feel the weight of the wooden sword in his hair.

That was close; I almost lost control.

The moment Bazzo opened his eyes, Green was adjusting his breathing.

"Well done!"

Green sheathed his wooden sword, a satisfied smile on his face, and extended his left hand to Bazso.

"..."

A gentle breeze swept across the gradually yellowing grass, awakening the long-dormant heart of the boy. Dawn had broken, and the sun rose in his heart, taking away yesterday's nightmare.

Bazso smiled, gripped Green's hand tightly with his right, and stood up again. At that moment, he understood that this was the man he would follow for the rest of his life.

"Nice, kid!"

"Well done! Hahaha!"

"The new generation of the White Dragon Knights!!"

Suddenly, the surroundings became noisy. It turned out that the fight between the two had attracted a group of knights and servants who were doing their morning exercises.

Cardi was among them, giving Green a smile and a nod with an appreciative look.

Not bad, kid. To have such skill in sword control at such a young age is truly...

He's a rare find, a real talent for being an assassin.

A sinister glint and a series of plans were brewing in those unfathomable deep blue eyes.

"Hey! Whose page are you? The knight you follow must be even more powerful!"

"Yes, whose servant is he?"

The surrounding knights couldn't resist the urge to spar with the knights who were accompanied by the two pageboys.

“It’s from the Galanz family.” Green looked at Cardi, not forgetting his current identity.

"The Galanz family?"

"Never heard of this before!?"

"Is this new here?"

"..."

Upon hearing this, Kadi turned and left. He had no intention of getting inexplicably caught up in an endless challenge by muscle-bound fighting maniacs.

...............

The army provides three meals a day. After breakfast, they help Cadi put on his armor. In reality, these tasks are done by one of Cadi's men as his attendants. Green and Bazso can only wait outside and then follow Cadi to the horse farm to practice horsemanship.

Occasionally, a knightly free-for-all would be held for friendly competition, but now, due to the tense war situation and the fact that knights who have been trained at great expense and time are prone to dying not on the battlefield but at the hands of their own people, Midland has now completely banned such competitions.

After equestrian practice, the schedule was packed. In the morning, we practiced spear throwing, and after lunch, we rested for a while before swimming. In the afternoon, we went hunting, which basically involved letting chickens and rabbits out in the riding arena and shooting them on horseback to see who could shoot the most, whether with a bow and arrow or a crossbow.

After these activities were mostly completed, afternoon tea time would begin, involving games of chess, reciting poetry, and so on. However, these were activities favored by the young nobles.

The common people were all illiterate. At this time of year, they would just maintain their weapons, drink, arm wrestle, or go to the towns below to gamble or find women.
