NBA's King of Talking
Chapter 8: Doing tasks or arguing with people
The original owner's style of play is indeed suitable for the current league, and more accurately, it would allow him to thrive in any era of the NBA. However, if you aspire to become a star, or even a superstar, you need to be able to handle a large amount of ball possession on offense and possess the ability to create scoring opportunities with the ball. Clearly, he doesn't currently have that ability.
Jia Fei fell into deep thought...
How can I improve my ball-handling and offensive skills?
Just as he was pondering this, a sudden "ding" pulled him back into the system. Oh right, I only received the newbie gift pack, and I've only fused with Iverson's physical talents; I haven't fused with his peak techniques yet!
Jia Fei immediately became excited. He focused his mind and shouted, "Basketball Idol System, how can I integrate Iverson's peak skills?"
Soon, the other side responded: "If the host wants to integrate top-level technologies, he/she needs to acquire points."
How do I earn points?
“There are many ways to earn points: you can earn them through training, competitions, sleeping, and other methods.”
"Points?" Jia Fei seemed to have heard a particularly new word. He tried hard to find it and actually found the word "points," which was currently displayed as "2" next to it.
At this moment, the system began to explain: "Host, you have earned a total of 1 point since the successful fusion on April 7th, and you earned 1 point for training today."
Jia Fei was thinking to himself, it seems that sleeping for so many days is not as rewarding as training once.
"How many points are needed to increase the fusion level?" Jia Fei asked.
"That's right, 1000 points can upgrade by 1%, and the higher the fusion level, the more points are needed!"
"Oh, I see!" Jia Fei didn't find it hard to understand. Anyone who has played games knows that leveling up is like this: it's easy at the beginning, but it becomes very slow later on.
"Is there a way to get more points?" This thought suddenly popped into Jia Fei's mind. Indeed, relying solely on sleeping and training matches seemed a bit too slow.
"There are ways. One is to complete tasks, and the other is to accumulate rage points."
He wasn't interested in completing quests; many games involved quests too. But what exactly was this "rage" value? Rage? Who got angry? Firethehome?
"Could you explain how to acquire this rage value?" Jia Fei was a good kid; he asked questions whenever he didn't understand. He firmly believed that "among three people walking together, there must be one who can teach me," even though three monks might not have enough water to drink, a threesome was definitely the most exciting kind of thrill.
"Host, there is only one way to gain Fury Points: make your opponent angry. The angrier your opponent is, the more Fury Points you will have."
"Uh... this..." Jia Fei was a little confused. Wasn't this just stirring up trouble, provoking and arguing, or attacking someone with trash talk? It wasn't entirely impossible, but wouldn't it easily attract hatred? If things went wrong, getting beaten up wasn't out of the question!
Judging from the system's explanation, it seems that this is the only way. So what else is there to say? He can't find anyone to use his verbal skills on right now, so it seems that he should just choose to do the mission!
"Can I take a look at the task list?" Jia Fei chose to switch tracks to see if he could do some tasks that he was capable of.
"You can see the task list at any time. Do whatever tasks you want. You won't get points if you don't finish the tasks!"
Soon, Jia Fei will be able to see the task list. There are many tasks on the list, but after looking at them, he thinks it would be better to just go and argue with people!
The tasks on the list are no easy feats. One, for example, is being drafted in the NBA draft, but whether he gets drafted isn't entirely up to him. Another is winning an NBA championship ring. My goodness, I can't even guarantee a non-guaranteed contract in the NBA, let alone an NBA championship ring? A dogtail grass ring would be more like it…
And the most outrageous part was yet to come… One of the tasks was to earn two All-NBA First Team selections. Jia Fei was truly speechless. Earning an All-NBA First Team selection was already a star-level achievement, but what did two All-NBA First Team selections even mean? That was the mark of a superstar excelling on both offense and defense! Did this even make sense for a nobody like him?
Jia Fei didn't read any further. These tasks were simply insane. It seemed that the only way to get high scores was to become the "Prince of Debate."
Unexpectedly, at this moment, the system added: "The contents of the task list are not static and will change according to the host's actual situation. Please pay close attention at all times!"
Jia Fei didn't know whether to be happy or sad. He was probably more happy. Maybe this list would include some tasks that he was capable of completing in the future. Otherwise, it would be better to just give him an ultimate task like surpassing Jordan to become the greatest player in NBA history.
Jia Fei was not discouraged. At least he was not completely useless. He just lacked super strong offensive ability. At least in terms of physical hardware, he already had all the conditions of an NBA star.
There's a saying in the NBA: skills can be developed, but physical attributes are much harder to improve. You can work on your shooting accuracy, but if you're of average height and want to dominate in the NBA, it's virtually impossible.
Since integrating Iverson's peak skills is still a long way off, relying on existing skills and enhancing them, combined with his incredible physical attributes, to strive for a place in the NBA is not a difficult choice.
Aiming for the NBA is no easy feat, and Jia Fei is currently facing the reality that he's almost out of money. As an amateur league, the NCAA doesn't pay players salaries; they only receive bonuses for good performances and basketball scholarships from their schools.
Jia Fei had also received a basketball scholarship, but it was still far from enough. As a basketball player, his expenses were already higher than those of the average college student. So after the tournament, he worked at a Western restaurant near the school. He mainly did odd jobs in the kitchen, including washing dishes and taking out the trash.
Jia Fei didn't want to do this, but he couldn't find any other good jobs. Working in a restaurant was hard work, but the pay was decent. He had to think about his future; he couldn't afford to starve to death before even getting a contract through the talent show.
One day in late April, Kemba Walker approached Jia Fei and excitedly told him that he had found an agent.
Jia Fei wasn't particularly surprised. A near-lottery pick like Kemba Walker is naturally a prime target for scouts and agents. It would be abnormal if these players didn't sign an agent.
"Kemba, who is your agent?" Jia Fei asked.
“Jeff Schwartz!” Kemba Walker said.
