"Xue Wei!" Gu Ye shouted, reaching out to grab her without thinking.

But it was too late. Murong Xuewei had already fallen into the black hole. Gu Ye jumped down after her without hesitation.

With a "bang," the entrance to the secret room slammed shut again, as if nothing had happened.

In the darkness, the two slid down from a height and fell to the ground.

"Xuewei, are you alright?" Gu Ye's voice was full of worry.

Murong Xuewei rubbed her sore head and replied somewhat groggily, "I'm fine. How about you?"

"I'm fine too." Gu Ye breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's look for something to light it up."

In the darkness, their hands accidentally touched. Although they couldn't see anything, that fleeting touch made them both blush.

Both of them were relieved that it was pitch black and the other couldn't see their blushing faces.

"Um... I found the tinderbox." Murong Xuewei broke the silence first, her voice trembling slightly.

The firelight illuminated the small, secret room. Only then could the two see their surroundings clearly. The room wasn't large, but the walls were covered with various blueprints and documents.

Gu Ye carefully examined the documents, growing increasingly furious with each reading. "These are all confidential documents from the imperial court. It seems the person behind this bandit group is far more terrifying than I imagined."

Murong Xuewei also realized the seriousness of the situation and unconsciously moved closer to Gu Ye, "Then what should we do?"

Gu Ye felt Murong Xuewei approaching, his heart racing, but he forced himself to calm down. "We need to take this evidence out."

The two began carefully searching for a way out, and in the process, they had to move around in the cramped space, their eyes occasionally meeting. Each glance made their hearts race.

"Gu Ye, look here!" Murong Xuewei suddenly pointed to a corner and said.

Gu Ye leaned closer to look and discovered a small mechanism. He tried pressing it, and with a "click," a hidden door opened.

"Great!" they both exclaimed in unison.

Overwhelmed with excitement, Murong Xuewei turned and hugged Gu Ye, who naturally returned the hug. Then, realizing something, they both let go of each other's hands.

"Well, let's hurry up and get out of here!"

Gu Ye reached out and took Murong Xuewei's hand, and the two walked forward slowly, close together.

Suddenly, I heard hurried footsteps and roars outside.

"Damn it! Someone has broken into the secret room!" a gruff voice roared.

Gu Ye and Murong Xuewei exchanged a glance, both seeing wariness in each other's eyes.

“That’s the boss’s voice,” Gu Ye whispered. “We need to find a way out quickly.”

The two quickened their pace, but the hidden passages were intricate and like a maze. Just as they rounded a corner, they suddenly heard footsteps behind them.

"Oh no!" Murong Xuewei exclaimed, "They've caught up!"

Gu Ye quickly made a decision, "Xue Wei, you go first, I'll hold them off."

Before Murong Xuewei could object, Gu Ye had already pushed her forward, saying, "Stop arguing, let's go!"

Left with no other choice, Murong Xuewei could only continue forward. As she ran, she kept an eye on her surroundings, hoping to find some clues.

Suddenly, Murong Xuewei's gaze fell upon a portrait on the wall. In the dim light, she could make out that it depicted a middle-aged man in official robes. Below the portrait was a line of smaller characters: "Bestowed by the late Emperor, a loyal minister and virtuous general."

"Huh? Isn't this...?" Murong Xuewei's eyes lit up, and a flash of inspiration struck her.

Just then, she heard the sounds of fighting behind her. Gu Ye's voice came, "Xue Wei, run! Don't worry about me!"

Murong Xuewei gritted her teeth, turned around and ran back. She saw Gu Ye being cornered by the gang leader, in a critical situation.

"Stop!" Murong Xuewei shouted.

The leader and Gu Ye were both stunned for a moment, then turned to look at her.

Murong Xuewei took a deep breath and looked directly into the leader's eyes. "Leader, I know your secret."

A flicker of panic crossed the leader's eyes, but it quickly returned to its fierce expression. "What nonsense are you spouting?"

Murong Xuewei calmly replied, "I know you were a subject of the previous dynasty, and you were forced to become an outlaw because of the dynasty's downfall, is that right?"

The leader's expression changed drastically. "You...how did you know?"

Murong Xuewei continued, "I also know that your true identity is actually Zhu He, a general from the previous dynasty."

The leader looked at Murong Xuewei in surprise, unsure how to react.

Gu Ye looked at Murong Xuewei in surprise, secretly admiring her keenness and wit.

Murong Xuewei pressed her advantage, "Boss, actually our goals are the same. The royal family of the Taichu Kingdom has always coveted the wealth of my Murong family. You want to restore the previous dynasty, while I want to protect the wealth of my Murong family. Why not join forces?"

The gang leader looked at her suspiciously. "Are you telling the truth?"

Murong Xuewei nodded. "Absolutely true. We can cooperate to deal with the Taichu Kingdom. You have military strength, I have financial resources, and with General Gu's wisdom, we will definitely succeed."

Gu Ye understood the hidden meaning in Murong Xuewei's words and opportunely chimed in, "That's right, we do indeed have this plan. If the Boss is willing to cooperate, we are sure to achieve great things."

The leader fell into deep thought, a complex light flickering in his eyes.

Taking advantage of the situation, Murong Xuewei said, "Boss, your abduction of those villagers has already attracted the attention of the imperial court. How about this: you release them first, allaying the court's concerns so Gu Ye can return and report back. We can then discuss the rest and how to cooperate. What do you think?"

The leader pondered for a moment, then nodded in agreement. "Alright, I can grant your request. However, you'll have to stay here so we can discuss this cooperation plan properly."

Murong Xuewei breathed a sigh of relief and exchanged a glance with Gu Ye.

They knew that the crisis was temporarily over, but bigger challenges lay ahead.

At this moment, there was a sudden noise outside.

"It's bad! The soldiers are here!" A bandit rushed in to report.

The leader's expression changed, and he looked at Gu Ye and Murong Xuewei, "You...set a trap?"

Gu Ye and Murong Xuewei exchanged glances, a sense of foreboding creeping into their hearts. They knew this was likely reinforcements summoned by Murong Xuewei's earlier distress signal.

But now, this reinforcement might actually disrupt their plans.

The leader's eyes turned fierce again. "Looks like we'll have to find another place to continue our 'conversation.'"

Gu Ye instinctively stepped in front of Murong Xuewei, while Murong Xuewei frantically considered her next move. Just then, a massive explosion suddenly erupted outside the mountain stronghold...
