EROS [Zerg]
Chapter 32 Insights
The female insects in the Comet Class vary in age, including immature female insect offspring and female soldiers who have retired from the battlefield due to injuries. Usually, they can graduate smoothly by completing five years of credits and passing the graduation exam.
In Professor Boules's law class, female insects rarely skipped class, and even Galilee, who disliked the Comet Class, did not miss it this time.
Eros diligently took notes on the key points he heard in class, and gradually came to understand why Professor Bress's classes were so popular.
Unlike other instructors who instilled the idea of male superiority over female in every lesson they taught, Professor Broussard, in this law course that already championed the exploitation of females to support males, conveyed to his students the meaning of lawmaking, its history, its advantages and disadvantages, and its irreplaceable nature.
"The Insect God bestowed laws upon the Insect Race, which have saved us from the brink of extinction on several occasions." Professor Bress stood on the podium, his gaze fixed on Galilee.
"You may think that the current law is unfair to female insects, but in the future, one day you will realize that this unfairness is the fairness that countless predecessors have fought for with all their might."
Galley noticed Professor Bress's gaze, and remembering the insect wings that had been taken from him, an invisible resentment welled up in his heart, yet he had nowhere to vent it.
"Why wait..."
Eros heard Galilee mutter to himself, "Are we just supposed to wait?"
“Gali, the law is a cold thing, but it also has a gentle side. If your eyes are blinded by hatred, all you will see is cruel coldness, and you will not see its gentle side.”
The professor's voice came from above, and Eros looked up to see Professor Bress standing beside him.
When Professor Boules approached him, Galli had no choice but to stand up from his seat: "I think waiting is pointless if we don't make any changes."
"Change can bring both good and bad outcomes. To achieve a good outcome, we need to keep trying and making mistakes. However, our society is not currently able to bear the failures that come with too many attempts. We need to wait."
“No, that’s not it at all,” Gally denied. “We clearly have a way, but none of us are willing to do it. The Sixth Star System is the best example of that, isn’t it?”
The sixth star system.
Eros was no stranger to this name.
He turned his gaze to Galilee.
"The code of conduct implemented by Evanson in the Sixth System has reduced the crime rate of the Zerg living there by 60 percent compared to before."
"The health and life of the female insects are guaranteed there, and the behavior of the male insects can also be controlled!"
"If a male insect in the sixth star system were to strip a female insect of its wings without permission, it would be imprisoned, not simply fined and given a few days of painless community service to get away with it."
Gali recalled his insect wings, which had been brutally ripped off. They were part of his body from birth, his "comrades-in-arms" who had accompanied him through the universe. They had been dug out, along with the wing bones, in that dark, dimly lit room.
He remembered how he felt back then very clearly.
The male insect wanted to see his pained expression, so it sparingly injected him with only a dose of anesthetic to control his rampage.
Gally was unwilling to accept this: "In the Sixth Star System, even the dignity of female slaves and prostitutes is protected."
Professor Broussard listened patiently, and finally, after looking at the remaining time of the class, he decided to give the rest of the time to the students to think for themselves: "Galli believes that the current rules and regulations of the Sixth Galaxy can be used as a reference by other galaxies. I think this is a very interesting question. Do you students here also think so?"
"If you have different ideas, you can bring them up with your family and share them with us all."
Professor Boules patiently encouraged the students to speak, but no one responded for a long time.
“Professor, I have some views that differ from Galilee’s.”
Alai then stood up from his seat, which was right in front of Eros and very close to Galilee, so that Galilee could hear everything he said clearly.
“Alex, please tell us your thoughts.” Professor Bress nodded to him.
“Professor Breus, I strongly agree with Galley’s view that the Civil Code of the Sixth System will bring a more stable life to the Zerg.”
"However, I don't think the current situation in the Sixth Galaxy will last forever, and the rules and regulations of the Sixth Galaxy do not apply to other galaxies."
Galley disagreed with Alai: "If the Sixth Star System, which was once the most barbaric, could implement this, why can't other star systems? And what reason do you have for believing that the current situation in the Sixth Star System will not continue?"
"There are three important reasons why the Sixth Star System can implement norms and codes of conduct. First, the Sixth Star System is a wild star system. Its civilization and material resources are not as advanced as those of other star systems. The male insects there have low material desires, and the number of male insects living there is small and their status is low. Most of them are commoners and do not have as much say as the male insects in other star systems. Under these circumstances, there is less resistance to implementing laws."
"The second reason is that space pirates and aliens are still causing trouble everywhere in the Sixth Star System. The Imperial Central Government has not yet gained absolute control over the Sixth Star System. Therefore, in order to prevent the citizens of the Empire from being misled by space pirates, the Insect Emperor is currently adopting a relatively lenient management strategy for the Sixth Star System."
"As for the third reason, it is that the enforcer of the law, Evansen, has high prestige in the military. He led the army to conquer more than half of the Empire's territory in the Sixth Star System. Moreover, besides Evansen, which female insect has the courage to withstand the pressure from the Main Star Male Insect Protection Association and promote the law to the entire Sixth Star System?"
"Of these three conditions, besides the Sixth Star System, which other empire's territory can meet them?"
Allais's analysis silenced Gali, who had to admit that what Allais said was true.
"Does the fact that our empire has lost one Evanson mean that another one will appear?" Gali was somewhat discouraged. His gaze fell on the few female insects in the class, but he could not see even a glimmer of hope in these disabled female insects.
He looked down and happened to see Eros beside him, who was engrossed in taking notes.
Eros was not interested in this discussion. He was not very perceptive, could not understand the argument between Alai and Galilee, and could not offer any insight.
This kind of debate left Eros feeling completely uninvolved, only making him feel that his mind was excessively dry.
"Eros, what do you think?" Gally's voice came from above Eros's head.
Eros paused as he organized his notes, looking up to find many eyes fixed on him because of Gali's words.
Eros: "..."
Professor Boules then noticed Eros, who was "sandwiched" between Allais and Galli. The similar appearance made Professor Boules stare at him for a while before he came to his senses.
"Eros, do you have any thoughts to share?"
Eros rose from his seat with a hint of helplessness, glanced at Alai and then at Gali, and finally looked apologetically at the old professor standing beside him: "Professor Breus, I don't quite understand the code of conduct they're talking about, so I can't offer any meaningful insights."
Eros opened his notebook and looked at the notes he had taken that morning, saying:
"I have only read Lieutenant General Evanson's 'Code of Conduct for Insect Planets in the Sixth System,' which has undergone significant changes from the first edition to the eleventh edition currently being implemented in the Sixth System."
"As far as I know, the first version was completed forty-five years ago, before Lieutenant General Evanson went to the Sixth Star System. So I think that Lieutenant General Evanson's initial social blueprint was actually aimed at the entire Insectoid Empire."
"I believe that the revised eleventh edition is the most suitable for the social conditions of the sixth star system, but this does not mean that some of its contents can only be used in the sixth star system and cannot be used in other star systems."
“Blindly copying is obviously not feasible, but we can absorb and learn from it to formulate new laws that are suitable for the empire.”
"Furthermore, I don't quite agree with Alai's view of male insects as an insurmountable obstacle to the implementation of the law. I believe that male and female insects are inseparable from each other. Female insects cannot live without male insects, and male insects cannot live without female insects. Therefore, we can sit down and have a serious discussion."
Eros earnestly laid out his thoughts, and under Professor Boules's gaze, his violet eyes revealed pure humility: "...These are just some of my own immature ideas."
Professor Bress smiled and nodded, gesturing for Eros and the others to return to their seats: "I'm glad to hear your insights. Actually, the most important thing in our class isn't the practicality of your ideas, but rather that my students enjoy thinking in class and dare to express their thoughts."
"I don't like my students blindly following others. Not just in law, but in any field of knowledge, I hope you can learn with humility. You are studying in the empire's top universities, and in the future you may participate in various sectors of society, and may even become leaders in those sectors. Therefore, you must have your own judgment, rather than blindly agreeing with those so-called authorities."
As Professor Boules finished speaking, the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class.
"get out of class is over."
Eros looked away and glanced at the timetable tucked between the pages of his book. The only academic class in the morning was law, and the next class was physical education.
Since some of the female insects in the Comet Class have difficulty even moving on their own, physical education class is a time of free activity for them.
Alai was already preparing to study in class, Kyle and Josh had already taken out their game consoles, and Eros was thinking about what he was going to do in the next class when suddenly a strong arm hooked around his neck.
Eros felt like he was about to be strangled. He turned around and saw Gali approaching, his smile unrestrained and irritating: "Come on, you're not missing any limbs, so don't slack off in physical education class. Come with me to the fighting arena."
