EROS [Zerg]

Chapter 233 Overlord or Prisoner

Kowe smirked: "I won't care how you play, but one thing is for sure: if you create any bug eggs, I'll confiscate them."

"You're even more delusional than me. My reproductive cavity has been removed long ago. Do you expect me to give birth to your child using a worm core?" Afro's gaze was defiant, with an expression of utter defiance.

Kove looked at the female insect in front of him on the screen, a barely perceptible smile playing on his lips. His gaze was like that of someone looking at a rebellious larva, filled with sympathy for the simple and naive larva.

"His Majesty the Insect Emperor has given you orders." Kowe twirled the ring on his claw finger. "According to the intelligence, there are traces of rebels in the Fourth Star System military headquarters, and the Royal Guard's informants have lost contact, which means they have likely been exposed. The Insect Emperor wants you to find the rebel spies lurking in the military."

“Me?” Afro was somewhat surprised, but his expression quickly changed, his voice filled with scrutiny and doubt: “Why me?”

"How could a colonel be tasked with finding traitors and spies within the army? By seniority, shouldn't it be General Willett who should be first?"

"His Majesty the Insect King only tasked you with finding the traitors and spies, not with arresting them," Kowe said expressionlessly. "You should know this is an opportunity."

"Although you are not my biological child, you do have genes from me in your body."

"So, I don't need to teach you how to use this opportunity to achieve your goals and climb higher, do I?"

In her heart, Afro felt that the blue-eyed female insect on the screen spoke in a voice devoid of emotion, chillingly cold:

"I think you'd rather keep me at home than improve my social status, since it's easier to control me that way, right?"

"Captive breeding?" Kowe shook his head in disagreement: "I remember telling you about my plan."

"What?" Aphrodite looked surprised.

“I told you that the day you first left Evita Labs,” Kovey said with a cold smile, looking at Afdero. “You gave me quite a surprise that day.”

"You forgot? You fired three shots at me."

Afro's eyes darkened, and she replied with a mocking laugh: "General, what does what Eros did have to do with me, Afro?"

“You’re quite the sophistry,” Kove glanced coldly at Afdero. “But unfortunately, I have to remind you of a fact.”

"Your existence is actually not allowed by society."

Afro's smile gradually faded.

"Many insects considered my experiments to be antisocial and anti-insect, and they even cursed me, saying they would send me to the highest court of the Empire for trial. Therefore, as a product of your experiments, you yourself are not something society can accept," Kove said.

"If your secrets were exposed, do you think they would condemn me for the crimes I committed against you, or do they see you as a dangerous and unstable element that they would want to get rid of as soon as possible?"

Afro frowned: "What crime have I committed? They have no reason to treat me like that."

“Of course you are guilty.” Kowe looked at the image of the female insect on the screen as if it were a joke, taking in the humiliation, resentment, and fear on her face:

"Born with a talent that no other insect can surpass."

"A mental force so powerful it defies common sense, and it cannot be marked."

"Your existence will make male insects wary and female insects jealous, and you will be treated as an outcast."

“Those who are not of our race will surely have different hearts.”

Afro frowned and turned his face away: "General, you don't need to threaten me."

"Is it really intimidation?" Kowe looked at Afdero with a sneer: "Evanson has already hit a wall for you, you should learn your lesson."

“He died a terrible death. I thought they would spare his life.”

“Those guys who kept praising him like a treasure, their attitude towards him was truly terrifying.”

Kove recalled the incredulous look on the insect's face, then looked at Afdero: "You're better than him; at least no insect is trusted by you."

"It wasn't for nothing that I specially chose this warm bed for you."

Afro's face darkened: "Does the 'breeding ground' the general refers to be the underground auction house?"

"Yeah, do you like it?" Kove grinned. "Evanson, nurtured in a comfortable environment, has already failed. Can Afdro, raised in a wicked environment, go any further?"

Kowe's icy gaze made Afdero feel nauseous, and he forced himself to say, "This is boring."

“No, it’s very important; it’s experience.” Kove looked at Afdero with pity. “If you survive, it means your experience is worth replicating.”

Afro struggled to understand Kuwait's words: "Copy?"

“Mass production.” Kowe nodded. “Just like growing a plant requires suitable soil, sunlight, and water.”

"Once you figure out how they grow, you can get a lush forest."

"The same principle applies to the emergence of new types of Zerg in the future."

"What's the point of telling me all this, General?" Afro didn't understand why Kovef would go to such lengths to create a new Zerg: "You are already the matriarch of a great noble family, with the rank of general, and the president of the Imperial Academy of Science and Technology. You have everything you need, so why would you do something that doesn't benefit you at all?"

"Don't you think this society is too disappointing for the insects?" Kove looked weary. "In an absurd society composed of races that have entered a vicious cycle, being a noble or a high-ranking elite is enough to make the insects feel ashamed, but no one has realized this yet."

"Most of the Zerg are still complacent, thinking that the Zerg are still the dominant species in the known universe, unaware that everyone is about to perish."

"High-level female insects are one in a million, not to mention male insects. There are only a handful of male insects of S-rank or above in the entire empire. You can count them on one claw, and their numbers are getting smaller and smaller."

"Other races are getting stronger with each generation, but the Zerg are getting weaker with each generation."

"They constantly pursue high birth rates but don't care about quality at all. The government guides female insects to pursue male insects, but constantly poisons them with pampering and sensual pleasures, spoiling them into lazy and bad-tempered good-for-nothings, so that they can give birth to insect offspring that are even lower in rank than themselves for easy control."

"Low-rank female insects are put into exchanges and parties for entertainment, while high-ranking civilian female insects constantly flock to the battlefield for military merit. Behind the high rewards is a high mortality rate, and even if they eventually gain status, they can't amount to much."

"The high and mighty royal family and nobles possess the best genes to rule over the increasingly weak common people."

"Today's overlord may be tomorrow's prisoner."

"We are not the first to do this."
