Me at two years old, a queen!

Chapter 23 Candied Haws

Qin Feng, carrying An'an who couldn't resist the sight of candied hawthorns downstairs at the hospital, bought the two skewers the little girl had been longing for. Upon reaching the top floor, they saw bodyguards guarding the Lu family's private ward.

A short, triangular-eyed old woman harshly lectured a teenage girl squatting by the wall: "If it weren't for your father's intelligence, do you think you'd still have food and drink? You're a money-losing burden, you wouldn't even know how to cry! Just like your mute and mentally challenged mother."

"You're all this flesh and blood! I'll beat you to death, you worthless wretch! Look at the different hospital rooms these rich people stay in. You'd be like a dead body if you clung to them crying. I bet you just don't want my Fang family to have a good life!"

"Money that's offered to you will just fly away. Let me tell you, when that rich man comes out in a bit, if you can't get him, go back and marry him off to that short, lame guy at the east end of the village. I've already negotiated the dowry."

"You worthless brat, just like your mother, what's the point of studying? All that education doesn't change anything, you still end up just having men's babies. What good are you?"

"You shameless slut, you think you can squander the money my Jinbao has saved for his wedding? If you ask me, you should have married that short, lame man long ago; you'd still have 10 yuan. My poor son, you've ruined him with your worthless trash!"

The girl, wearing a noticeably oversized gray-black coat, squatted motionless in the corner, her eyes numb as if she were used to the insults. She sat there quietly, and no one knew what she was thinking.

A seven or eight-year-old boy was noisily playing with a toy airplane nearby, while a heavily pregnant woman sat on a chair in the corridor, clutching her belly and looking down, seemingly oblivious to her surroundings.

Seeing this scene, Qin Feng frowned, looking at the chaotic mess with disgust. He was just thinking of picking up the little girl who had excitedly run ahead of him with a candied hawthorn.

Then they saw Fang Jinbao, a chubby, muscular man wearing brand-new sneakers, rushing towards them, his body jiggling, reaching out to snatch the candied hawthorn from An'an's hand.

"You brat, give it to me! Those are my candied hawthorns! Give them all to me!" Fang Jinbao's muscular build contrasted sharply with the other frail women in his family: "You good-for-nothing! Give them to me!"

Qin Feng swiftly grabbed the outstretched fat hand, then lifted the person up and threw them to the ground: "Get lost!"

Fang Jinbao, who was suddenly thrown to the ground, saw the tall, fierce-looking man in black in front of him and was so frightened that he stammered, "Waaah~, you...you actually dared to push me!"

"You're a bad kid! That's clearly a crazy uncle's...buy for An'an! It's not yours!" To show off her possessions, the little dumpling proudly ate a candied strawberry in front of him.

"Wow~" Fang Jinbao, who always ruled the village like a king, sat on the ground and rolled around: "How can you eat all the good food? All the good food is mine!"

"You bitch! My grandma said everything I want is mine! You good-for-nothing, how dare you try to take things from me!"

Qin Feng grabbed the chubby boy's face with one hand, silencing him completely: "Shut up!"

"Oh dear~, my precious grandson, my lifeblood~ Why are you crying? Grandma will look at you, don't cry, who are you?"

The old lady had initially thought it was an adult, but upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a wealthy man in cahoots with that man. She figured he wouldn't hold a grudge against a child. Normally, in the village, relying on his brother-in-law being the village chief, everyone in the village would readily give Jinbao whatever he wanted.

He's just a child. Older children always give way to younger ones. What's the point of the older ones eating so well if they can't grow taller?

"Let go of my Jinbao! How shameless! All you want is some food! What's so precious about it? Our Jinbao is a boy, much more precious than your good-for-nothing!"

The old woman lunged at the man, grabbing his hand that was holding Jinbao, but seeing that she couldn't break free, she was instead thrown to the ground by the man. She was about to unleash a torrent of abuse on Qin Feng.

"Oh dear~, this is outrageous! This heartless boss just drove my son to jump off a building, and now he's beating my grandson! This rotten-hearted man is trying to wipe out the Fang family line!"

Seeing that no one was moving, the old woman immediately lay down on the ground and cried out even louder.

"These heartless rich people are trying to drive people to their deaths! They're killing people to cover it up! I'll make sure you're on the news! People like that deserve to have sons without eyelids, or to be struck by lightning!"

"Come and see! The heartless boss is trying to kill us to cover it up..." Unfortunately, this was a ward on the top floor reserved for the Lu family, and no one around was willing to cooperate with her act.

"Crazy uncle~, is she performing in opera? Like in the TV show!"

An'an remembered the images of babbling hymns she had seen on the iPad. Her father said it was traditional Chinese opera, and if An'an was interested, she could learn it and perform on stage someday. An'an remembered shaking her head and refusing.

Qin Feng, unsure how to explain, simply hummed in agreement. He glanced at the unaffected girl and thought, "As expected of his master's offspring, she's not afraid at all."

He then picked up the shrewish old woman with annoyance, threw her aside, and muttered, "If you don't want to be mute, shut up!"

Seeing Qin Feng's fierce appearance, the old lady subconsciously touched her neck, scrambled to her feet, and then yelled at the woman next to her, "Are you all dead?! All you know how to do is eat!"

Qin Feng glared at her fiercely, and the old lady, in a hoarse voice, walked to the woman's side: "Get out of the way! You haven't done anything, and you still want to sit there? Don't think you're so great just because you're pregnant. You're not from my Fang family..."

The old woman, as if remembering something, suddenly stopped talking, then cursed, "Get up, you old hag! Don't you have any sense? Don't forget my son isn't dead yet! Stop making that sad face and playing the victim!"

A sharp "slap!" landed on her face, but the woman didn't react at all, as if she wasn't the one being scolded and hit. The girl squatting nearby seemed not to have heard a thing either.

"Grandma, my candied hawthorn! Give it to me right now! How can that brat get to eat such good stuff!"

Fang Jinbao quickly got up from the ground and ran to his grandmother's side: "Didn't you say everything was mine? I don't care! I want to eat candied hawthorn now!"

"That's a strawberry! How could she eat something I've never even tried!"

The old lady's purplish-red jacket sleeves were immediately torn to shreds by Fang Jinbao: "Oh my, our Jinbao is so strong, he can eat anything!"

Qin Feng hesitated for a moment. Having never taken care of a child before, he wondered if children shouldn't see these things. Before he could figure it out, he saw the little dumpling beside him licking a candied hawthorn while watching the show and asked, "Hehe~, Uncle Crazy, is Daddy busy?"

"Ok!"

Let's go find him.

Remembering the family's messy affairs and worried about the impact on the child's mental and physical health, Qin Feng decided it wasn't appropriate for the child to go inside and listen, so he found a hospital room instead.

Looking at the little girl sitting quietly on the sofa, he felt a bit helpless as he picked her up. He recalled how his owner had cared for children, and then opened his phone to find the cartoon with the "pig squeals" he'd heard in the car earlier.
