The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 85 The Simplest Plan
Sienna walked out of the hair salon feeling pretty good about what she was about to do.
The barber shop owner was a kind old man. While cutting the hair of another elderly man, he chatted with her for a while.
The youngest person in the house was a few years older than her father.
The old man was happy to answer her questions… well, Sienna didn’t want to lie to herself. Actually, Sam was the one speaking for her most of the time.
This girl was much kinder and friendlier than Sienna, and somehow, her charm always made everything much easier.
It turns out that some trouble has been brewing here recently.
A group of guys, whom the barber and his customers called thugs, hung around the area, kicking over trash cans, blasting music, and most importantly—at least to Sienna—they were extorting money from some shops.
It hasn't escalated to the point of outright robbery yet, but customers are worried that these young people who have been disrupting their little world won't be able to stop committing such violent acts for long.
Finally, all Sam had to do was ask where those petty thugs usually hung out, and Sienna got all the information she wanted to know.
“The old Maple Warehouse is right next to the Lawson Auto Repair Shop,” one of the old men said. He raised his cane and pointed roughly in that direction. “That place is quite old, all rusty, it’s about a block past the old main road before the bridge was demolished.”
Sienna nodded. "Well, uh, did you happen to see how many of them there were? It's okay if you didn't."
“There are only a few people,” the other man said. “You’re not planning to go there by yourselves, are you?” he asked.
Sam grinned proudly. "Our boss is a great hero, and she's not alone. It won't be long before we've got those guys in jail."
“That could be quite dangerous,” the barber said. He went around to the other side of the customer and continued trimming the stray hairs.
“We can handle it, don’t worry about us,” Sam said. “We’re just doing our part to help the community.”
You know what those famous heroes are like. They're always chasing after big cases and major villains.
Our leader is more like a street hero. We're just doing what we're supposed to do. Others have done it before, like Simon. He cared about the community in the same way.”
Sienna stared at the back of Sam's head. This girl was really clever. Or rather, much more clever than Sienna had ever imagined she could do.
If these customers don't know who Simon is, they'll assume he's some other hero. Even if they remember the name later, they're unlikely to bother to check.
However, judging from the way the barber's shoulders tensed up...
“Well then,” he said, “ladies, if you can help us deal with these petty thugs, I think I can donate a little money to your cause. Just consider it being a good neighbor, right?”
Several customers seemed quite pleased with the gesture, and Sienna nodded in agreement. "Th-thank you...sir, thank you so much."
Not long after, they said goodbye and left.
Sienna looked at her sisters and counted them. One, two, three, four… She looked around and noticed Trinity's bottom sticking out from behind a bush. Now there were five of them.
“Hey girls,” Sienna said, “I think we know where to find that chained man.”
“That’s great,” Sienna said. “I can’t wait to make him taste what it’s like to get beaten up.” She looked up at Sienna and grinned, a smile with an unexpected wildness.
"That's right. Sam, do you know how far it is from here?"
“Rosen’s? We’ve changed tires there a few times. It’s about two blocks away,” said Sienna’s new friend.
She pointed in a direction, and Sienna looked in the direction she pointed. There was a sparsely populated street with a few old bungalows along the way, and three boys halfway down the street.
"Alright then, I think we're far enough away. Let's go back to the car. I don't want to have to rush to catch up only to find the car parked several blocks away."
"Why should we run?" Teddy asked.
“I hope we don’t run into anything too bad,” Sienna said, “but if we do, I hope we have the option to run.”
Teddy nodded thoughtfully. "That's a pretty badass idea. Only heroes and idiots stay put when they should be running."
“Aren’t they all the same?” Trinity asked.
"No way, heroes are dumber than idiots," Teddy said.
“Yes, I’m sure they’re way dumber than my amazing sisters,” Sienna said. “Come on, let’s get back to the car. Trinity, what are you still doing under those bushes?”
“There’s wrapping paper here,” she said.
“Ignore them,” Sienna commanded.
The raccoon girl was disappointed for a moment, her three shoulders drooping, but in just a minute, she was distracted by something else, took off running to the road, and became the first person to run back to Sam's car.
Once everyone was on the bus, it drove onto the road, and Sam drove around the city, weaving through the streets. The old town near the industrial area consisted mostly of narrow lanes, many of which were one-way streets, so navigating just a few blocks took a considerable amount of time.
However, this gave Sienna at least time to observe her surroundings and confirm that the place was relatively quiet.
They parked the car not far from the Maple Warehouse. It was an old building with a tin roof and dirty exterior walls stained with water and rust.
There were several interesting cars parked in front of the warehouse. They were all sports cars with very low chassis and obvious modifications. Some cars were painted in bright colors, while others had patches of body parts that didn't match the colors.
Sienna stared at the spot for a moment, then shifted in her seat. "Alright, we might need to come up with a plan here."
"It's going to be a fight, isn't it?" Sam asked.
“Maybe,” Sienna said. “I hope we don’t have to fight, but… I think it’s possible we’ll still fight.” She should have been more worried about it, but she wasn’t.
Has she gotten used to fighting with people? That's strange. She gets nervous when talking to people, but she doesn't feel nervous when fighting? That's not just strange, it's absurd.
However, she didn't have time to properly examine herself.
“I think Trinity should go in first. We can wait outside. Teddy, you stay in front. Sam and I will wait around with Sienna and one or two Trinitys. Once it’s safe, we can go in and check it out.”
“The plan is pretty simple,” Sam said.
“Let’s play it by ear,” Sienna said. “Hopefully, the chained man will surrender. If that happens, we can just keep an eye on him and wait for the police to arrive.”
"Aren't you going to call in the Heroes Counter-Strike Force?" Sam asked.
Sienna scoffed. "They're with the heroes," she said.
Sienna shrugged. That was why she'd hesitated to call them. They probably still thought of her as a hero, and she was pretty sure they were connected to that cabal.
“Before we set off,” Sienna said, “if you have any missions that are suitable for the current situation, uh, like taking down someone with superpowers or something, then taking on a mission now might be appropriate.”
She didn't particularly like the mission system that came with superpowers, but it was indeed a way to become stronger. Teddy had become even more resilient after his last upgrade.
Sienna is quite pleased to see her sisters become less prone to injury.
She also has task options to choose from.
【Task!】
The Queen with the Silk Sword, Sequel
Become an outstanding member of your community!
[Reward: For every 10 people who recognize you as a "good person," you gain 1 skill upgrade point. For every 10 people who recognize you as a "good person," your "rogue" attribute increases by 1!]
To accept or to reject?
This seemed like a repeatable task. She accepted it easily. She was happy to take any path that led her away from evil.
She glanced through all her other tasks, completely ignoring those that would only lead her further down the path of evil.
[New mission!]
Break the chains
[Break down a local gang before it caused a major disaster!]
[Reward: 1 skill upgrade point for each enemy gang member eliminated.]
To accept or to reject?
This task was easily accepted.
[New mission!]
[The Queen Captures the Knight]
Defeat the chained man
[Reward: Defeating, capturing, or killing an opponent with superpowers grants 1 skill slot. +Violence Points (earned by effectively controlling your territory).]
To accept or to reject?
Sienna bit her lower lip. That misdeeds value was terrible. But... and this was a crucial "but"—that skill slot was incredibly precious.
Skill upgrade points can improve her existing skills, but what about skill slots? That means her superpowers could unlock a whole new aspect.
"Boss, are you coming or not?" Sam asked.
She glanced around and realized she was the last person left in the car. Her face flushed, and she quickly pressed the button to accept the task. She hoped it would be worthwhile.
