The socially awkward villain's furry superpower

The teddy bear covered in a blanket looks as if it has become one with the blanket.

Those half-closed brown eyes, heavy with sleep, were watching the nervous actions of a girl who should have been in bed long ago.

The sun had already set long ago; it was past seven o'clock!

Teddy closed the book—she couldn't understand most of it anyway—muttered to herself, and shifted slightly in the blanket.

She wanted to sleep, but Sienna's pacing made it impossible for her to fall asleep.

It seems the eldest brother has encountered some troubles, which makes Teddy worry as well.

I'm not particularly worried, just a little worried.

Teddy himself didn't know what to do.

She initially thought her task was quite simple, at least that's what she thought at first.

Just do as the boss says.

If the boss tells her to eat people or beat people up, that's fine too.

Teddy can even help protect the boss from those bad capitalists and heroes.

But now she's not so sure.

As a villain, the boss actually wants to do "what a hero should do," which is completely different from Teddy's understanding.

Teddy thought this might be part of some big plan of hers.

Teddy knew that the eldest sister was very smart; she had even gone to school.

Teddy's original mission was to hurt people for the boss, but perhaps the boss doesn't need her to do that right now.

That means Teddy can eat and sleep all day long.

But in reality, she neither slept nor ate; instead, she was watching her eldest son with worry.

This is all so confusing, and Teddy doesn't like it.

“Hey, boss?” Teddy asked.

Sienna stopped pacing. "Oh, um, what's wrong?"

Teddy pulled the blanket over his head back a little so he could see his boss's face. "What happened?"

She watched as the eldest brother waved his hands in the air, like a salmon leaping out of a river.

“A lot of big things have happened,” Sienna finally said.

Teddy nodded, seemingly understanding.

She did have a good solution.

She lifted a corner of the blanket with one hand and patted the bed with the other, saying, "Come to sleep."

Sleep can solve all problems.

“I can’t sleep,” Sienna said. “It’s just… I’ve messed up a lot of things.”

Teddy muttered. If sleeping doesn't solve the problem… “Have you tried eating something?”

"I'm not hungry."

"Do you need to go to the toilet?" Teddy continued. "Sometimes I have to strain a lot to poop."

“Teddy—Teddy!” Sienna screamed, “Don’t talk like that!”

"Then that's probably not necessary." Teddy said. "Okay, then I don't know what happened."

Sienna clasped her hands to her stomach, as if giving herself a hug.

Teddy shook his head. If she wanted a hug, she should just crawl under the blanket. Teddy would give her lots of hugs. She was a master hugger.

“I…I have superpowers,” Sienna finally said.

“Mm,” Teddy replied.

"And now I've become the villain."

"Ah."

"My life is completely ruined now."

Teddy blinked. "Hmm? I don't quite understand."

Sienna sniffed. "If I call the police, they'll arrest me and put us both in jail."

“Yeah, we’re the villains,” Teddy said.

Evading the police is basically half of what a villain does.

Sienna loosened her arms from her crotch and started waving them again. "But I don't want to be the villain."

Teddy didn't understand. "But being the villain is great," she said. "We can do whatever we want."

Eat whatever you want, sleep whenever you want.

I mean, of course, we have to fight with heroes and capitalists, but that's about it.

"I don't want to fight with heroes or... capitalists."

Why capitalists?

Teddy blinked slowly. "Okay, then let's not fight."

Being a villain means you can do whatever you want. If there's something you don't want to do, then you don't have to do it.

Sienna paused. “I…I know,” she said, “I won’t fight the heroes.”

“Okay,” Teddy said. This might be the best option.

Although the eldest sister is quite smart, her strength is only average, unlike Teddy's.

“Okay.” The leader agreed. “Yes. And… and I want to try to make us… not villains.”

"Fine?"

Maybe the boss wants to be a scoundrel or something? That would be fine too.

"Then, uh, we need to go talk to the management department, tell them your situation, and get everything resolved."

"Ok."

“We can also find you a school, and... it's a bit like, I'm like an unmarried pregnant mother.”

Oh, this will complicate things. Hopefully I can manage.

“Okay?” Teddy said. She wasn’t very confident about finding a school, not at all, but it sounded like it was still a long way off.

Sienna started pacing again.

Teddy thought she wouldn't leave again.

"And tomorrow, we're going to see that mysterious person. We're going to show them we're not afraid!"

Are they going to meet another villain? That could be dangerous.

The villains are very territorial.

“Okay, fine,” Teddy said. “I’ll be there to protect you no matter what.”

Sienna stopped again, this time clenching her fist in front of her pajamas.

“Thank you,” Sienna said. “Well, I don’t know what to say… Anyway, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, boss,” Teddy said. “Hurry up now, you woke me up.”

She lifted the blanket again.

Sienna's face scrunched up strangely. "I can get another blanket. I... actually, I don't even know if I have any extra."

Teddy waved his arm again.

“I’m not used to sleeping in the same bed with other people,” Sienna refused.

Teddy tilted his head, letting one ear peek out from under the blanket. "It's weird, but okay."

She'd do anything for her boss. Teddy is truly the best little bear follower.

She huffed and puffed as she slid off the edge of the bed, rolling around with the blanket until she resembled a bear-shaped burrito.

A "bear roll".

“Now you can sleep in your bed,” she said.

"Hmm. Are you comfortable sleeping on the ground?" Sienna asked.

“Yes, of course it feels good,” Teddy said.

"Oh, okay, thank you. I think... let's go buy a mattress tomorrow, and... more blankets."

“Okay, sure,” Teddy agreed.

Sienna reached out a hand and groped her way onto the bed, patted around, and found her book.

She kept the book beside her in case she wanted to read it when she woke up the next afternoon.

"Boss, turn off the lights."

Sienna rummaged through her several boxes until she found a small blanket.

A moment later, the lights were turned off, and Sienna climbed into bed. "Goodnight, Teddy."

"Goodnight, boss," Teddy said. Finally, he could sleep.

Why do you call me boss?

Teddy opened his eyes again.

The room wasn't completely dark; the occasional headlights from passing cars outside would let some light in.

"Because you're the boss."

“I don’t see myself as a boss.”

“It’s okay,” Teddy said. “I believe you’ll grow into a powerful leader sooner or later.”

"Just eat and sleep more, and, uh..." Teddy knew there were other requirements to being a good leader.

"We must also put the needs of the proletariat before our own needs."

That sounds good.

"Yes—yes. I...I know I'm not suited to be that kind of rogue, so I hope you won't be upset that I'm your summoner."

"Why should I be sad?" Teddy retorted.

She has a warm place to sleep, nice blankets, and even candied fruit and donuts.

She heard the bed move. "Because you could have been part of someone else's superpowers, and I guess she would have been a better person than me."

"Well, but I don't. So you just need to be good enough."

Sienna snorted. "This... is good, I guessed. I've never thought I had any particular talent for anything before. But hopefully this time will be different."

“You will,” Teddy said. “Now stop talking, it’s too late.”
