The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 62: Battle of wits
Sienna carefully observed the situation. She paused, took a deep breath; her heart was still racing from running around and climbing stairs.
"Glamour Woman" mumbled incoherently, swung her arm forward, and threw a straight punch that sent a trail of dazzling sparks flying forward.
Those sparks were so beautiful.
Bright and sparkling.
They are dazzling and sparkling, like the light splashing from raindrops hitting a street lamp.
They shimmered with all sorts of colors, some of which Sienna was certain she had never seen before.
She took a step forward, trying to get a better look at the sparks, but they disappeared around a pillar, blocking her view.
Sienna gasped and quickly closed her eyes. She instinctively reached out and grabbed her sisters' shoulders.
Just moments before, she was still brainstorming plans, and then those sparks... that must be some kind of superpower.
It's like waving a laser pointer in front of someone's eyes and turning their brain into a cat's brain, easily attracting their attention.
She licked her lips and crouched down slightly. "Be careful," she said in a low voice, her eyes still closed, "those lights are dangerous."
"But they're so pretty," Teddy muttered, complaining.
“You idiot, that’s a trap,” Athena said, as if she herself had just walked towards those lights.
"Give me some time, I need to think of a solution."
Sienna's goal is to get Aleya Ekta out of the room.
As it stands, there are no other exits besides the one they came in through, and Isabella doesn't seem like the kind of athlete who could jump out of a window without getting hurt.
This means either persuading "Glamour Woman" to give up the pursuit, or finding a way to distract her so that Aleya Ekta can escape.
"Glamour Woman" roared, "You complete bastard! Get out here right now! I'm so tired of chasing after you, you idiot!"
“She swore a lot,” Teddy said. “You can only say words like ‘butt’ when you’re in the bathroom.”
Sienna sighed and opened one eye. "Glamour Woman" didn't seem to have noticed them yet.
She was moving around the room, disappearing behind one pillar and then reappearing behind another.
Sienna saw a figure move deeper into the factory, and "Glamour Woman" also spotted it, immediately launching a series of glowing attacks.
Sienna closed her eyes again. "Okay, okay," she said.
Simply showing up and chatting with her isn't enough to distract "Glamour Woman" for long enough for Isabella to slip away.
but……
“Athena,” Sienna said, “can you confuse her?”
“No problem, sister,” Athena said. “I just need to know roughly where she is. I can operate with one eye closed.”
“Very good.” Sienna’s impromptu plan was quite simple.
She sent Athena to distract "Glamour Woman," and then... hopefully that would be enough.
If they manage to escape, then perhaps Sienna could stop "Glamour Woman" and pretend to be... well, her real self, coming to help.
She took out her phone, ready to text Isabella.
She suddenly stopped.
"We'd better find some cover first."
“That’s a brilliant idea,” Teddy agreed.
The three of them moved behind a dusty wooden crate. Sienna had to crouch to get her head below the edge of the crate, but her two companions didn't have this problem.
“Alright,” Sienna said. “Athena, you go and distract her. Teddy, when I go over there to talk to ‘Glamour Woman,’ turn into a bear, just in case.”
And, while she's distracted... Athena, can you get Aleia Ekta's attention?
“Of course,” Athena said.
"Great, then take her to the exit and tell her to run. We can contact her again later."
Sienna shifted her position slightly, realizing she was already struggling after only squatting for a short while; she really needed to work out more. "Do you two understand?"
They nodded.
Sienna smiled. "Then Athena, get ready to begin."
The owl girl leaned forward slightly, sticking her head out from the side of the box to pinpoint the location of "Glamour Girl".
Sienna knew that Athena's superpowers were used very discreetly. There was no light, no flash, and no sound.
One second "Glamour Woman" was uttering some inappropriate swear words, and the next second... although she was still cursing, she started looking around, and her voice trembled with a hint of fear.
"Get out here, you damn thing!"
Sienna licked her lips, picked up her phone, shielded the screen's light with one hand, and sent a text message to Aleya Ekta:
Sienna: Get ready to move immediately. We'll cover you. Run!
Somewhere deep inside the factory, a cell phone rang.
Sienna really wanted to slap herself.
"So you've been here!" the "Glamour Woman" exclaimed.
“Uh,” Athena said, “I was trying to be as discreet as possible; I haven’t finished yet.”
Sienna bit her lip. She straightened up slightly, one hand on the nearest crate, and watched "Glamour Woman" walk deeper into the factory. "Okay, okay," she said.
She was terrible at impromptu situations. She glanced at the stairs leading downstairs; escape was still possible, perhaps she could wait until "Glamour Woman" caught Aleia Ekta before chasing after her.
But by then, the police might have already arrived.
“Stay here and don’t move,” she said.
Sienna stood up and quickly moved to the other side of the stairs, opposite her sisters. She saw Teddy back up from behind the box, then bend forward, hands on the ground, back arched.
Sienna gave her a thumbs up and then walked toward the center of the room.
The light here is dim, with the only glimmer coming from the gaps in the wooden planks nailed to the windows and the faint glow from the embers left on the ground after "Glamour Woman" used her superpowers.
Even so, Sienna could still make out "Glamour Woman" in her brightly colored uniform in the darkness. She cleared her throat and called out, "Glamour Woman?"
The woman suddenly turned around, and two hissing sparks shot towards Sienna.
Sienna cried out in surprise and quickly crouched down, barely managing to avoid the sparks.
The sparks crackled and popped, making a rather cute sound. Despite her racing heart, she found herself turning her head, a faint smile unconsciously creeping onto her lips.
She wanted to see the sparks fly and flicker again.
Sienna shook her head, quickly took a step away from the sparks, and struggled to refocus her gaze on "Glamour Woman".
“Glamour Woman!” she called out. “It’s me, uh, boss. We’ve met before, haven’t we?”
"Glamour Woman" stopped, her hands hovering below the two newly formed sparks. "The girl with the child?" she asked.
“Yes, it’s me,” Sienna said. “I, uh, heard some noise over here? That’s right, so I came to see what was going on.”
"Did you come in a uniform?" "Glamour Woman" asked.
"I heard the noise earlier," Sienna said, making up an excuse for herself.
The heroine didn't seem so convinced by her words. "So you tracked me all the way here?"
“You, uh, left behind a lot of sparks along the way,” Sienna said, pointing behind her, where the reflections of those sparks could still be seen on the pillars and surrounding walls.
“Oh,” said “Glamour Woman,” “right…so what are you doing here?”
Sienna opened her mouth, pondering how to answer. Actually, she really wanted to go back to her dorm right now to do her homework or watch videos of kittens fighting over yarn balls on YouTube. "I'm not really sure either, uh, you seem to need some help?"
"Glamour Woman" snorted and put her hands on her hips. "Trying to steal the credit, huh? Whatever, I probably would have done the same. Hmm, I do need some help. That jerk keeps hiding and won't come out."
“What bastard?” Sienna asked.
“A nobody who wants to be a villain,” said “Glamour Woman.” “Not long ago, someone saw him wandering around and using his superpowers on civilians. I just wanted to arrest him, that’s all.”
“How did you know where he was?” Sienna asked.
"What do you mean?"
Sienna shifted her position. "I mean... he was wearing a uniform, right? Did you find out his real identity and track him down, or how did you know he would be at the place where you found him?"
"Glamour Woman" shrugged. "I have an informant."
"Then how did your informant find out?"
The heroine glared at her. "Listen, are you trying to help or are you just going to keep asking endless questions?"
Sienna actually wanted to keep asking questions indefinitely, but she felt she couldn't answer like that. "Okay, then let's go see if we can find this, uh, guy?"
"Glamour Woman" nodded. "Yes, female, white, probably around twenty to twenty-five years old. Height... well, around 1.6 meters? She looks quite short."
Sienna thought she heard someone whispering in the darkness. "Okay, well, I think we can split up. If you find her first, call me and I'll come help, okay?"
"Can you manage all by yourself?" "Glamour Woman" asked.
“I’ve already found my way here, haven’t I?” Sienna retorted, pointing to one side, guessing that direction wasn’t where Isabella was. “Why don’t you start looking from that direction, and I’ll go this way. Also, um, did you call the police?”
"Not yet, they don't like false alarms. Besides, if they come, they'll steal the spotlight, you know?" said "Glamour Woman".
“Yes, of course I understand.” Sienna tried to force a smile, hesitated for a moment, and then set off pretending to catch Isabella.
Or rather, just do whatever comes to mind, since she's not good at improvising.
