The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 42 Skill Upgrades and Preparation
Sienna put down her pen and looked up at the screen.
There was a long text in front of me, and about eighteen different tabs were open in my browser.
That was left behind when she was engrossed in researching materials during her studies.
Her assignments were quite simple, but Sienna felt that doing more wouldn't hurt.
She needs to accumulate as many points as possible now, in case there are any group assignments or similar tasks later in the year.
She has never given a good presentation in her life, and she feels that this situation is unlikely to change.
Sienna sighed, closed her laptop, and rested her hands on the screen for a moment.
Finishing her homework was her last excuse for not leaving.
If she doesn't leave soon, she might be late, which would be almost unforgivable.
"All right."
"What's ready, boss?" Teddy asked.
The bear-like girl was sitting on Sienna's bed, her legs dangling over the edge, her hands holding up her precious red book.
By now, she had almost finished reading a quarter of it.
“I’ve said it,” Sienna repeated, “I think I’m about ready to go.”
“That’s so cool!” Teddy said, slamming her book shut and sitting up. “I was all set.”
This is true.
Teddy was wearing her yellow dress with cargo shorts.
Her plastic mask was on Sienna's pillow, "laughing" at the ceiling.
“That’s great,” Sienna said. “You should wear a hoodie to cover all of that up.”
Teddy nodded, jumped up and rushed toward the hoodie on the pile of clean clothes in the corner.
It turned out there was a small laundry room on the first floor of the dormitory, so Sienna at least had a few clean clothes.
She considered training Teddy or Athena to help her with laundry, or perhaps having them tidy up the room, but then felt that would be going too far.
However, she will probably still do it, because doing laundry is just too boring.
And this was practically the only truly useful thing she could do using her abilities.
Sienna stood up, stretched, and then checked her mission notifications.
She had many tasks to do, more than twelve in total. She skipped most of them without even thinking about them.
She immediately crossed out any task that mentioned killing or injuring someone.
She also doesn't want any tasks that involve robbing other people.
That leaves only a few task options that seem quite interesting.
[Community Expert]
Become an outstanding member of the community!
[Reward: For every 10 people who recognize you as a "good person," you will receive 1 skill upgrade point and 1 "rogue point."]
This task is easy to agree to.
She had done something similar before, so doing it again didn't seem difficult.
Skill upgrade points might not be of much use to her, but she can certainly use "rogue points".
Thorns among the roses
[Make the local heroes believe that you are one of them]
[Reward: For each hero associated with your faction who recognizes you as an ally, you will receive 1 skill upgrade point.]
This task... well, it can serve as a benchmark to see how well she's done in sneaking into the groups of heroes she's about to come into contact with.
There are no "rogue points" rewards, but you also won't get "villain points".
"Hey, Sienna?"
Sienna looked at Athena, the owl girl wrapped in a pile of blankets.
She and Teddy both seemed to enjoy doing it. "What's wrong?" Sienna asked.
"Is there anything I can do for you and Teddy when you go out?"
Sienna shook her head. "No, I don't think there's anything you need to do. If you'd like, just... uh, stay here."
Athena pouted, but quickly composed herself. "But I want to help," Athena said.
Sienna approached, knelt down beside Athena, hesitated for a moment, and then placed her hand on the girl's head.
“Thank you,” she said, “but I think Teddy and I can handle this. You can do whatever you want.”
Sienna thought the girl would be happy to take a day off by herself.
“I’ll leave my laptop here, and… well, we don’t have many books. We can buy a few next time we go out.”
Athena nodded. "Okay, Sister Sienna, I'll get on with my business. I won't let you down."
The way this was expressed was rather strange, but Sienna could accept it.
Her two younger sisters do have some rather strange habits at times.
Athena has that strange obsession with appearing intelligent and mature.
As for Teddy... well, actually, Teddy's ideas are enough to write a psychiatry paper.
Her bear-like head is full of strange and wonderful ideas.
"I'm ready to go!" Teddy said, striking a pose while wearing a hoodie.
Sienna grinned, then quickly suppressed it to avoid upsetting Teddy.
"Okay! I'll go get my backpack, put on my shoes... and then I'll help you re-tie your shoelaces, and then we'll set off."
"You can't even tie your shoelaces?" Athena peeked out and asked, looking at the messy shoelaces on Teddy's boots.
"I know how! Tying a knot is enough!"
Sienna shook her head and squatted down in front of Teddy. She patted her thigh, gesturing for the girl to put her feet on it.
“Before we leave,” she said, starting to untie her shoelaces, “you have one skill upgrade point you can use, right?”
“Yeah, that’s right,” Teddy said. “Should I use it to make myself stronger?”
Sienna nodded. "Of course. It's better to use it sooner rather than later."
"That's so cool!" Teddy exclaimed. She stared at the sky for a moment, then grinned broadly. "Oh, that's awesome! My new skill is amazing!"
Sienna put Teddy's paw down and patted his other paw. "What's its name?"
"Iron Bear!"
Sienna pondered the skill's effects, then remembered she could check it. "Check status, Iron Bear."
【Iron Bear】
[Tearing Apart and Bear-like Behavior]
[Level: Level 1]
[It can turn fur into iron spikes in one minute.]
[Activation Method: Thought]
Cooldown time: 1 hour
“Wow,” Sienna said, “that sounds pretty impressive.”
That does sound pretty impressive.
Although it doesn't have any particularly novel ideas, it's sure to be quite interesting.
She imagined that this skill would make Teddy even scarier, and perhaps more dangerous.
“Yes!” Teddy chimed in, his voice and expression brimming with pride. “Can I add points to it? I want to become Iron Bear more often.”
"Yes, of course, but maybe we should leave a few points in case you unlock other, better skills."
Teddy nodded. "Okay, sure."
"Alright," Sienna said after putting Teddy's feet down. She patted her trouser legs and stood up. "Are you all ready?"
Teddy nodded.
"Okay. When we get there, let's not threaten the heroes or anyone else. Let's try to be friendly."
Remember, we should try to portray ourselves as heroes. I think Meraton will probably be there too.
"She can help us if there are any problems. I'm sure everything will go smoothly," Sienna said.
She genuinely hoped things would go as smoothly as she had described.
Sienna picked up her backpack from the doorway, then turned to make sure Teddy had caught up with her. "Okay," she said, "Athena, see you later, okay?"
“Of course,” Athena said.
"Okay, goodbye?"
After the somewhat awkward conversation ended, Sienna took Teddy's hand and went out.
