The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 32 Ready, Teddy
Teddy is ready.
On her way to Homi's hideout, Sienna cleverly found a place where she could hide and change clothes.
Of course, it was in a public restroom next to a gas station, but Teddy didn't mind. It had a rather interesting smell.
So, Teddy, fully armed with that scary cartoon bear mask and a yellow sundress with pockets, walked beside Sienna, who kept looking at her phone.
They had Aleya Iakta figure out where Homi would be by throwing darts at a map on the back of a Thai restaurant brochure.
That's so cool, and some of the food in the brochure looks really tempting.
Maybe those foods will taste just as good as pizza.
Teddy has added another item to his to-do list.
The list isn't very long yet; after all, she only recently started writing it after seeing Sienna make all sorts of lists.
Her list was so short that she could write down everything:
Make Sienna happy
Sleep next to Sienna all day
Eat a capitalist
Try all the delicious food in different places and find the best one.
Go to the zoo with Sienna
However, if she doesn't help Sienna catch that cunning Homi, her life goals will never be achieved.
"Sienna, are we almost there?" Teddy asked.
“Almost there, I think,” Sienna said. “I… I don’t think this is a very lively part of the city.”
That's true. They passed many residential houses along the way, and occasionally saw a few apartment buildings interspersed among them.
There are some shops and such, but they're all small stores. There's a butcher shop here, and a barbershop there. Nothing particularly cool.
“I think that’s it,” Sienna finally said, pointing across the street.
She looked at her phone again, then nodded. "Yes, it looks like that's the place."
It turned out that the place was just a small corner shop.
A sign for selling beer and other goods hung in front of the shop, and two elderly men sat on a bench, drinking from paper bags.
“Ugh, building a villain’s hideout in such a shabby place,” Teddy said. “It would be so much cooler once we have a super secret base.”
Sienna let out a growl that sounded rather clumsy.
Teddy felt a little embarrassed, but she didn't want to point it out and embarrass Sienna. She'd teach Sienna how to yell later.
"Should we go in and see if we can find Homi?" Teddy asked.
"I...no, not yet. Let me call Isabelle first."
Sienna walked to the side and started typing something on her phone.
Teddy shrugged, walked to the sidewalk, and plopped down so that her legs could stretch out between the two cars.
She could still clearly see the corner store, in case some fat, greasy capitalist tried to sneak out.
“Yes,” Sienna said, “Isabelle is on her way.”
“Cool,” Teddy said. “By the way, what does Homi look like?”
"Uh, I... don't know?"
“Huh?” Teddy said. She put her finger up her nose to clean it. “Hmm, maybe we should ask? We need to know what the prey looks like.”
“Yes, good idea,” Sienna said.
Teddy, basking in the occasional burst of inspiration, continued to wait.
Sienna tapped a few more times on her phone, then knelt down next to Teddy and showed her a photo.
“This is what Homi looks like dressed up,” she said.
The photo isn't very good. The image is blurry, and the angle is terrible, but you can definitely see a guy with a printed headscarf covering his face, only the lower half of his face is visible, and he's wearing a large blue knitted hat.
His clothes looked two sizes too big, and for some reason he had several chains around his neck.
“This outfit is really lame,” Teddy said.
Even her pimp outfit looks more stylish now.
A car pulled up in front of the corner store.
It's hard not to notice; deafening bass music blares from inside the car, and lights underneath illuminate the street below in a yellowish glow.
Teddy glanced at the person who got out of the car, then looked down at the photo.
The skin tone matches, and the height seems about the same, but the headscarf is different, and the beanie is green. "Do you think that's Homi?" Teddy asked.
“We—we have to hide!” Sienna said.
Teddy looked up at her blankly, then looked around.
They were right behind the two cars, and the only reason they could be seen was because the noisy car was parked right in front of them.
“We’ve already hidden,” Teddy said.
"Oh, oh, right."
"Should we go and catch him?" Teddy asked.
“Hmm,” Sienna said. She hesitated; this wasn’t a good idea. Predators had to be decisive and ruthless.
“I can catch him quickly, boss. I bet he’s not much of a threat in the open.”
Sienna nodded, but as Teddy stood up, she reached out and pressed her shoulder. “Let me text Isabelle first,” she said.
Teddy nodded and slowly stood up. "Let me know when you're done, Sienna," she said.
“It has been sent.”
Teddy grinned, revealing a big bear-like smile, took a deep breath, and then roared as he charged across the street.
Sienna didn't see the truck until she screamed and the truck's tires screeched on the road.
Homi's task is almost finished.
He'd already gotten that idiot who drove him to the right spot, and he was taking his laptop out of the back seat.
He only needed to hand the computer to the person waiting for him at the store, and his work for the night would be done. Then he could go back to the club to find the girls.
But then, as if the heavens were against him, he heard a scream coming from across the street.
He turned his head and saw a child wearing a cheap plastic mask running across the street toward him, arms raised above his head, hands outstretched like claws.
She kept shouting "Awoo!", like... well, like a child pretending to be a bear.
Just as he was about to ignore her, a truck appeared out of nowhere.
With a muffled thud, the truck hit the girl solidly, the sound of which seemed particularly loud even amidst the screeching of the truck's brakes.
Harold stared at the scene before him for a moment, taking it all in.
The girl who fell to the ground, another child wearing a mask screaming behind her, and the "Truck King Dream Express Service" sign on the side of the truck.
“Oh, damn it!” he said.
He was about to rip off his mask to check on the child—he was a criminal, but not a bastard—when the girl turned into a bear.
“Oh, damn it!” he exclaimed again, emphasizing his words.
The bear shook its filthy head, as if trying to wake itself up.
It looked up at him, and they stared at each other for a moment. The angry roar it let out was a friendly reminder that he had forgotten to go to the toilet before leaving the house.
The car he was in jolted violently, the driver shifted gears and sped off down the street, while the deafening music of the song "Gangster Gangster" blared from inside.
Homi was left on the sidewalk, with nothing between him and the angry bear except the bag containing his laptop.
He did the only wise thing: he turned on his heel and ran.
