The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 182 Ambitious Ambition
Trinity was grateful to have so many ears, which meant she could listen to the TV, her sisters, and her eldest sister talking at the same time.
She has two clones sitting on the sofa in the living room, and the last clone is sitting next to the eldest sister in the kitchen.
"I can't believe we weren't discovered," Teddy muttered to himself.
“Shh,” Athena said, “if you keep talking about this, we’ll be exposed sooner or later.”
Trinity chuckled, just as the eldest woman at the table looked up from her work and raised an eyebrow. "Athena told a funny story," Trinity explained.
“Oh,” Sienna responded, then went back to her work. Trinity wasn’t quite sure what she was doing, but she was helping! The older sister spread the handouts for different subjects on the table, and Trinity organized them into their respective binders. She stuck colored numbered stickers on the top of the header pages and drew little doodles on the spines of the binders to make them look nicer.
Trinity thought her older sister had pirated some textbooks and even printed them out—a move Trinity found quite villainous. And the fact that her sister could help made it even better!
In the living room, Teddy and Athena kept arguing, and Trinity became increasingly indifferent to their quarrel. The argument was boring, and besides, the commercial break was almost over anyway.
She leaned back on the sofa as a new show started. It seemed to be a documentary about climate change or something. She wasn't really interested, but her older sister Sienna didn't want them watching noisy cartoons while she was working, and Teddy loved documentaries.
Trinity was just going to casually watch the show when the camera switched to a panoramic view of a place she had never seen before.
Trinity sat up straight, scooting forward to the edge of the sofa, all three mouths agape in surprise. She almost called over her doppelganger in the kitchen so that everyone could see the television.
That place is absolutely beautiful.
A kaleidoscope of discarded treasures shimmered like a miniature world, with towering mountains of gleaming steel, plastic, and flattened aluminum. Trinity had never seen so much trash in one place. She instinctively wiped the drool from her lower lip. She could almost picture the smell.
"Landfills are monuments to human consumption and near-perpetual warnings of the consequences of modern disposable society. These massive piles of garbage contain various hazardous wastes that are seeping into the ground."
The commentator's voice rang out, and Trinity nodded in agreement. He didn't need to say much; she had already fallen in love with the place, but the commentator's pleasant, British-accented voice continued.
"The sky above these garbage mountains isn't much better. Not only is the smell harmful, but the impact is also significant. The decomposition of garbage continues to release greenhouse gases, especially methane, which has a major impact on climate change."
The program then discussed recycling and how bad landfills are, but no longer showed footage of landfills.
Trinity pouted, increasingly frustrated as she couldn't see the beautiful piles of trash brimming with treasures. A few more images flashed by: a few lucky seagulls pecking at the trash, but that was all.
She had never been so captivated by anything on television. Trinity clenched her fist and nodded firmly to herself three times. She was determined to go to the landfill, even if it meant risking her life.
All she needs to do is figure out how to do it.
“Boss?” Trinity asked at the dining table.
“Hmm?” Sienna responded.
“Can we go to the landfill?” Trinity asked.
“No,” Sienna replied.
Trinity pouted even more. Plan A had fallen through before it even began!
"Boss?" asked the clone closest to the kitchen.
"What's wrong?" Sienna asked.
Can I use your laptop?
The older woman looked up. "Hmm? I think it's okay. What do you want to use it for?"
“I want to see the garbage truck,” Trinity said.
“Oh…uh…okay? You can use it here as long as you want.” The older sister turned to the side, took the laptop out of the bag that was on the floor at her feet, and placed it next to the binder that Trinity had organized.
Trinity smiled and knelt on a chair to reach the laptop. It took a while for the laptop to boot up, and then a password was required. Sienna's fingers moved too quickly as she typed the password, and Trinity couldn't see what she entered. Then Sienna turned the laptop around, and Trinity could connect to the internet.
This took some time because she had to type carefully and ask how to spell "garbage," but eventually she found many pictures of garbage trucks and a Wikipedia page about garbage trucks.
After browsing for a while, she confirmed that the garbage trucks did indeed go to the landfill! Great! She then easily found the garbage collection schedule for the city of O'Clair, and luckily, the garbage trucks collect garbage in different areas of the city five days a week.
“Thanks, boss.” Trinity found a really cool video and said as she watched it. The garbage truck in the video had a huge mechanical grabber on the side that could lift up the entire garbage can; it was definitely one of the coolest things ever made.
"You're welcome," the older sister said, her attention still mostly focused on her studies.
Trinity stood up from the sofa and walked out of the bunker. She wasn't planning on sneaking around, because she wasn't planning on doing anything sneaky. In fact, most of her clones hadn't even left the house!
As soon as one-third of her body was outside, she walked along the sidewalk. She didn't cross the street because she couldn't cross without someone holding her hand. Her task was to find a trash can that hadn't been collected yet, which she thought should be easy. After all, the longer trash sits, the more tempting it smells.
Unfortunately, the first trash can she found that smelled "mature" was too tall, and the lid was secured with a large latch. She only had one clone and couldn't open it.
However, after walking for a while, Trinity noticed someone walking in an alley next to a fast food restaurant, carrying two large bags of trash.
Seeing this, she grinned from ear to ear. Unfortunately, the person was on the other side of the street. Fortunately, a large stranger walked by. "Sir," she called out.
The man stopped, blinked, and then turned around. "What is it?" he asked.
Trinity pointed across the street. "I want to go over there," she said.
"Uh... okay?"
"I can't cross the street without someone holding my hand."
"Where is your mother?" he asked.
She almost said she didn't have a mother, but then thought it would be too silly to say that. "Over there," she said, pointing to the fast food restaurant across the street.
"Then how did you end up here?" he asked.
"I walked over by accident." She lied again.
The man looked around again. “I don’t know,” he said. “I don’t want to be seen as a weirdo.”
“If no one is holding my hand, I’ll get hit by a car,” she said. This time, she wasn’t lying.
The man muttered a few words to himself, then looked around. "Okay," he said.
“Your fingers are so thick,” Trinity said, pulling his hand. They crossed the street quickly, and Trinity waved to the man as she ran. “Thank you, sir!”
The man said something, but Trinity had already walked into the alley and headed towards a large trash can at the back. The trash can was even open!
Trinity jumped lightly, grabbed the edge of the trash can, and then climbed in on her hands and feet, landing on her back on a pile of garbage bags to cushion her fall.
Now all she has to do is wait!
Not long after, the person who had collected the trash bags returned. Without even glancing into the bin, he tossed in several more bags. One of the bags tore, and crumbs from the flattened hamburger buns splattered all over Trinity.
She could snack while she waited! This was the best "no-plan" plan ever! She stuffed her pockets with bread and even sent some to her clone at home.
Before long, the older woman noticed her looking at more pictures of garbage trucks while taking out a flattened piece of bread and munching on it. "Hey, don't eat next to your laptop... wait, where did you get this?"
“From the trash can!” Trinity said.
Sienna sighed and stood up. "Trinity, stop eating from the trash can. I'm fed up. There's mold on it, isn't there? If you're hungry, just tell me."
Trinity didn't protest and handed over a loaf of bread. After all, there was a whole bag of bread in it, and she would be happy to share if her older sister wanted some!
Soon she'll be able to go to the landfill and have an endless supply of garbage to enjoy!
