Thriller Zone: From the Mental Hospital to the Ghostly World
Chapter 23 The Road to the Rooftop
The bell had long since rung and passed, but the classroom and corridor remained silent.
Ding Xiang quickly recounted everything that had happened in the teaching building, her face still showing lingering fear:
"...I was completely terrified by what I saw, and without thinking, I ran downstairs."
"However...it seems that the students' bodies were trapped inside the classroom and did not come out."
Chen Ji sensed something was wrong: "There might be some restrictions we're unaware of."
Du Tingfeng nodded in agreement. In any case, it was a good thing for those student ghosts to be trapped in the classroom.
He was thinking when he suddenly paused.
Where is Wu Yan?
The burly man knew the location of the escape route and had most likely already headed to the rooftop.
Of the six, Fang Jia is the evil spirit of this world, but Wu Yan, who has always been suspected, is the one who truly comes from reality.
Ding Xiang interjected, "I didn't see her during morning exercises either."
The three looked at each other, their hearts sinking.
Chen Ji rummaged in his pocket for a while and pulled out a pen and a piece of diary paper. He wanted to ask the Ouija board spirit.
This time, instead of reciting the summoning words given by the burly man, he simply opened the pen cap and placed the pen on the paper.
Chen Ji had a feeling since yesterday when he was doing the divination that this Ouija board spirit was different from ordinary ones, and belonged to a sentient being.
Du Tingfeng immediately asked:
"Ouija board spirit, tell me about Wu Yan's condition."
The pen didn't react at all—or rather, it did move, just flipped over on the paper.
But I didn't intend to write anything.
Chen Ji's eyes flashed: "I'll ask."
Chen Ji repeated Du Tingfeng's question, gripping the pen tightly in his hand.
Instead of letting the pen float freely as before, he restricted its movement.
The moment his hand touched the pen, it began to tremble again, just as it had when he wrote his answer the night before.
It trembled for only a few seconds before guiding Chen Ji's hand to trace lines on the paper with very slight movements, revealing his caution in every step.
Wu Yan betrayed them.
[About what happened last night]
This time it wrote very quickly, and the handwriting was very neat.
Ding Xiang asked, somewhat incredulously, "She reported us?"
"Why? It doesn't benefit her at all!"
Du Tingfeng was somewhat surprised. He had only wanted to ask where Wu Yan was now, but he didn't expect the Ouija board to give such an answer.
He thought about it for a moment, his expression remaining relatively calm, and he readily accepted the answer.
"As we expected, Wu Yan has indeed been assimilated."
Chen Ji nodded: "I just don't know exactly who influenced it."
"It shouldn't be Fang Jia. Judging from her diary, she wouldn't report her companion."
"It's highly likely that the atmosphere of the school, as well as Meng Yue's death, led Wu Yan to make this decision."
After Chen Jigang finished his speculation, he suddenly turned to look at Ding Xiang.
"Did you see any female teachers when you were in the teaching building?"
Ding Xiang shook her head.
Chen Ji's expression turned somewhat grim: "I think the female teacher is probably another evil spirit existing in this building."
"She already knows about our summoning of the Ouija board. If we encounter her, we will surely die."
Du Tingfeng looked at the sky; the sun was still hidden behind the clouds, and the entire campus was as dark as dusk.
After discussing it for a while, the three of them agreed that they could not delay any longer.
They now know all the dangers, and the rooftop is the only safe zone.
five minutes later.
Chen Ji slowly retreated from the stairwell and gestured to the two people behind him.
There's no one up there, so it's safe for now.
The teaching building has five floors. Go up the stairs on the left to the third floor. After reaching the third floor, walk through the entire corridor and turn onto the stairs at the end of the right side to go up to the rooftop.
The three of them had reached the second floor, where it was as silent as a tomb.
Chen Ji led the way, with Du Tingfeng bringing up the rear. The three of them walked very lightly, stopping every few steps to listen to the sounds around them.
We've arrived at the third floor.
This was the most difficult hurdle in the group's discussion.
They had to avoid the sight of the corpses inside in order to reach the stairs on the other side.
Ding Xiang was discovered by the corpse in the classroom on the third floor while walking through the corridor on the third floor to the classroom on the next floor.
Chen Ji half-squatted on the ground, bending his body completely down so that their figures would be blocked by the wall and not be seen by the corpses inside the window.
The three of them moved cautiously and slowly on the ground, like mother hens, gradually passing through the two classrooms.
Suddenly, Chen Ji, who was at the very front, stopped abruptly!
He immediately turned his head and made a shushing gesture to the crowd.
In the absolute silence, the clatter of high heels came from the stairwell on the right side of the corridor.
It's a female teacher coming downstairs!
Whether she goes down the corridor or stays on this floor, she will inevitably run into Chen Ji and the others.
Ding Xiang's heart rate quickened rapidly. She looked around and suddenly her eyes lit up. She tugged at Chen Ji's clothes.
Just one meter away from them was the restroom on this floor.
The sound of high heels was getting closer and closer.
The three of them moved quickly, trying to keep quiet, and slipped into a stall in the men's restroom.
Ding Xiang was breathing rapidly, huddled in a corner, her palms sweating.
The unknown is always closely associated with fear.
They didn't know where the female teacher was going, whether she was staying on this floor or going down.
Or perhaps... I'm just lingering in this corridor?
More importantly, all they knew was that if they encountered a female teacher, they would inevitably be punished.
However, the three of them knew nothing about her current state!
If even the students have undergone changes, what changes have occurred in the female teacher?
The female teacher had already walked past two classrooms, and the tapping sound gradually grew louder.
Until it stopped at the bathroom door...
Chen Ji's body tensed immediately, and the atmosphere in the cubicle suddenly became tense.
Time ticked by, but no footsteps sounded at the door.
Du Tingfeng immediately realized: the ghost outside was simply waiting for them to come out on their own!
But time was running out; the three of them couldn't stay there indefinitely, and besides, no one knew when the female teacher would come in.
Chen Ji turned his head, made a circle with his finger towards Du Tingfeng, and silently mouthed:
"Is it usable now?"
He was referring to Du Tingfeng's bargaining chip.
Du Tingfeng shook his head, while Ding Xiang was completely bewildered, having no idea what they were discussing.
Chen Ji didn't explain. He nodded, took out a pen from his pocket, and wrote two words directly on his arm:
"A way out"
The pen gently traced across Chen Ji's skin.
[One minute later]
Ding Xiang breathed a long sigh of relief. What she feared most was that the Ouija board would tell them that there was no chance of survival.
Du Tingfeng's expression was somewhat strange. He did not doubt the Ouija board's words and began counting down on his watch.
The only thing that struck him as odd was that the Ouija board's attitude toward Chen Ji was clearly different from its attitude toward others.
Judging from the third diary entry, Meng Yue's death could have been completely avoided.
It's hard to say whether this pen planted a seed in Meng Yue's heart, deliberately leading her toward death.
Du Tingfeng's eyes flashed, and thinking of what the Ouija board had left for him, he had some guesses in his mind, and couldn't help but feel relieved.
Sixty seconds passed in the blink of an eye.
Just as the seconds were counting down to the last second, the bell rang to signal the end of get out of class!
Chen Ji and the other two exchanged glances, both somewhat uncertain, but they had no choice!
He flung open the door to the cubicle, but there was no one there.
Ding Xiang was pulled back by Du Tingfeng and frantically rushed out of the bathroom and ran into the corridor ahead. Her legs were still moving mechanically, but her eyes, which were looking to the side, were wide open in horror.
The female teacher just happened to brush past them.
If they had waited another thirty seconds, they could have avoided her.
The Ouija board tricked them!
