All-around teacher at the magic academy
Chapter 163 Pleading
"I've only just started learning," Rhine replied, his tone tinged with humility.
He knew he was still a novice in this field, but today's events made him realize that he might have a talent in some areas.
"You've only just started learning and you're already daring to fight others? You're quite bold."
The law enforcement officer's words contained both criticism and praise; he was clearly both surprised and impressed by Line's actions.
"Haha." Rhine laughed awkwardly, offering no further explanation.
He himself was not sure why he chose to act at that moment. Perhaps the new magic he had learned made him eager to try it out, or perhaps seeing the manager and waiters in danger, his inner instincts drove him to help.
“Don’t go out and cause trouble, or I’ll never see you again,” the law enforcement officer warned, his tone revealing a kind of elder’s concern.
“Okay.” Rhine agreed, a serious expression on his face indicating that he would remember the law enforcement officer’s advice.
He then turned and pushed open the door, leaving the interrogation room and stepping into the free air outside the law enforcement branch.
After coming out, Rhine looked up at the sky and found that night had completely fallen, with stars twinkling in the dark sky.
A sense of urgency welled up inside him; Arthur must be very worried about him now, and he had to get back as soon as possible.
Just as Rhine was about to leave quickly, he suddenly felt someone gently tug at his shoulder from behind.
His body tensed instinctively, and just as he was about to make a defensive move, a familiar voice rang in his ear.
“It’s me, Koby.”
Upon hearing the voice, Rein instantly relaxed his guard. He quickly broke free from Koby's grasp, turned to face him, and frowned slightly, saying with some confusion, "What are you doing? You startled me."
“Um… I have a favor to ask.” Koby’s voice was hesitant as he carefully observed Rein’s reaction.
“I refuse.” Rein blurted out without hesitation, his tone firm, clearly having already guessed what Koby wanted.
“You refused without even listening to my request.” Koby’s voice carried a hint of grievance, and his expression was like that of an innocent child who had been wronged.
"So what is your request?" Rein sighed, finally deciding to listen to what Koby had to say.
"Could you teach me magic?" Koby's eyes were full of expectation as he looked at Rein, hoping he would nod in agreement.
As Rhine had suspected, his guess came true.
Rhine shook his head, still indicating his refusal.
"I haven't even learned it well myself, how can I teach you? I'm still in the beginner stage, I'm still figuring it out myself."
"Godfather, please teach the child." Seeing that Rhine was about to turn and leave, Koby became anxious. He quickly ran in front of Rhine and knelt down with a thud. The sound of his knees hitting the ground was particularly loud in the quiet environment.
Rein frowned. He thought the other party was just joking, but he didn't expect Koby to be so serious. It seemed that he was determined to have him teach magic.
"Godfather, please teach me. I really want to learn magic." Koby's voice was pleading, and his eyes were full of longing.
"Get up first." Rhine's tone was impatient; he wasn't used to people kneeling before him like that.
“No, I won’t get up unless you agree.” Koby’s attitude was unusually firm; he seemed to intend to use this method to force Rhine to agree.
"Fine, I'll leave then. You can stay kneeling here." Rein turned around without hesitation, ready to leave. His steps were unwavering, as if he truly didn't care whether Koby would stay kneeling forever.
"No, no, no, I'll get up, okay?" Koby quickly got up, not even bothering to brush the dust off his knees, and ran to Rhine again.
An awkward smile appeared on his face, clearly realizing that his actions had not achieved the desired effect and might have even angered Rhine.
Rein stopped, turned around, and looked at Koby with a scrutinizing gaze, asking, "Have you been waiting for me here all this time?"
“Yes.” Koby nodded, a hint of determination in his eyes, as if telling Rein that he would not give up easily.
"You really want to learn magic that much?" Rhine asked again, his voice tinged with a hint of confusion, after all, learning magic was no easy task.
"Yes, but my family really doesn't have the money for me to learn magic." Koby's voice carried a hint of helplessness; his family's circumstances did not allow him to have such a luxury.
“I’ve only just started learning myself, so I can’t teach you,” Rein said frankly. He didn’t want to give Koby a promise he couldn’t keep.
“I don’t mind. I’ll learn whatever you teach me. I have nothing to offer you in return. From now on, I’ll be at your service.”
Koby's attitude was exceptionally sincere; he was willing to do anything to learn magic.
"Don't you have anything else to do?" Rein frowned, wondering if Koby was only learning magic out of boredom.
"Nothing is more fun than learning magic."
Koby answered without hesitation, his eyes gleaming with a thirst for magical knowledge: "To me, magic is like opening the door to a new world. I want to explore that world, even if it's just to stand at the door and peek in."
Rein was silent for a moment; he could sense Koby's determination and passion.
Although his own magical journey had only just begun, Koby's persistence made him waver somewhat.
Perhaps he could try sharing some basic knowledge, at least to let Koby understand the hardships of the path of magic.
"Alright, alright, but I can't teach you right now. Wait until I've gotten familiar with it for a while."
Rein eventually compromised, knowing that Koby wouldn't give up easily if he didn't give him an answer.
"How long is 'getting familiar'?" Koby immediately pressed, his face showing urgency, worried that Rhine would postpone indefinitely.
"I don't know." Rhine shrugged. He didn't have a specific timetable, as he was still figuring things out himself.
"No, what if you keep getting familiar with it?" Koby's voice carried a hint of panic, fearing that Rhine would use this as an excuse to keep delaying.
"Then how about I don't teach you?" Rein teased him deliberately, wanting to see Koby's reaction.
“No, that won’t do. You should familiarize yourself with it. You can take as long as you want.” Koby immediately changed his mind. He didn’t want to lose the opportunity to learn magic because of his impatience.
His eyes were filled with anticipation, as if he could already see himself becoming a magician in the future.
Rein couldn't help but chuckle at Koby's expression, deciding to stop teasing him.
"Alright, I'll do it as soon as possible. But learning magic is no child's play; you need to be prepared for a long-term effort."
"I will."
