Chapter 162 The Arrival of the Enforcers
"Law enforcement officers, what's going on here?"
A sudden voice broke the silent, tense atmosphere. The voice carried authority and an unquestionable seriousness, causing everyone present to turn towards the door.
Immediately afterwards, two uniformed law enforcement officers strode in from outside. Their eyes quickly swept over the horrific scene in the hall, and their brows furrowed involuntarily.
Broken pillars, scattered debris, and bloodstains on the ground all indicate that a fierce battle has just taken place here.
They then looked at the tall man bleeding profusely and the manager sitting on the ground, their tone calm yet carrying an undeniable authority, and said, "Can you explain what happened? Why is this place like this?"
“Wait.” Another law enforcement officer suddenly interrupted, his sharp gaze fixed on Rhine standing beside him, his tone carrying a hint of surprise and confirmation: “It’s you again!”
Upon hearing the voice, Rhine turned to look at him, feeling that the voice and the face seemed somewhat familiar.
He frowned and quickly searched his memory. After a moment, he suddenly realized that these were the two law enforcement officers he had encountered when he was arrested due to a misunderstanding.
Rhine couldn't help but smile bitterly to himself, secretly marveling at how small the world was and how often enemies met on narrow roads. He never expected to run into them again under these circumstances.
"Is this your doing again?" The enforcer's voice was filled with obvious anger. He strode up to Rhine, his finger almost pointing at Rhine's nose, and questioned him.
His other hand had already reached for the restraint device at his waist, as if to grab Rhine.
"Wait, wait!" The manager realized what was happening, quickly got up from the ground, and jogged over to the two law enforcement officers.
He reached out to try and calm the officer's anger, explaining, "Sir, please listen to me. It wasn't this young man's fault. I was the one who reported it. It was this gentleman next to me who caused the trouble, and this young man just intervened. If it weren't for him, I might be dead already."
Rhine looked at the manager, his eyes filled with gratitude, and nodded slightly in thanks.
"It really isn't him?" The enforcer's tone still carried a hint of doubt as he frowned, his gaze shifting back and forth between Rhine and the manager.
"No, no," the manager waved his hands repeatedly, emphasizing sincerely, "I can testify that this young man helped us."
"Alright then." The law enforcement officer finally released the restraints and nodded. "The three of you come back with me and give a detailed account of what happened."
"Look, I still have a lot of guests here. I need to make some arrangements. Could you come over later?"
The manager said somewhat awkwardly, knowing that as the person in charge of the restaurant, he couldn't just leave like that.
“Okay.” The officer nodded in agreement, his tone softening slightly. “But don’t keep us waiting too long. We’ll wait for you at the station.”
Then, without giving Rhine much room to react, he was taken to the law enforcement division once again.
Rhine's steps were heavy, but a hint of determination shone in his eyes. He knew he had to explain the situation clearly to avoid any unnecessary misunderstandings.
He looked around at the familiar surroundings, a sense of emotion welling up inside him. He recalled the last time he was brought here; after all this time, he had unexpectedly ended up here again.
Fortunately, he wasn't brought here blindfolded this time; at least he could still see everything around him, which gave him some comfort.
He was led into a room that resembled an interrogation room, where law enforcement officers gestured for him to sit in a chair opposite them.
Without hesitation, Rhine sat down. He knew he hadn't committed any crime, and if helping others was a crime, then he was willing to bear the blame.
"Tell me the whole story."
The enforcer leaned back in his chair, his sharp gaze fixed on Rhine sitting opposite him. His voice was calm, yet carried an undeniable authority.
Rhine took a deep breath and began to recount: "This is what happened..." He didn't hide any details, from the conflict that occurred in the restaurant to the tall man's violence, to his intervention, and finally the arrival of law enforcement. Rhine described everything in detail.
He spoke slowly, but every word was clear and forceful, enough for law enforcement officers to understand the whole story.
"That's it? Nothing to hide?" The enforcer's eyes were sharp as knives as he stared intently at Rhine, trying to find a flaw in his expression.
“You know we can ask other people for confirmation, and if it’s different from what you said, the consequences can be very serious.”
“I know, I assure you it’s all true,” Rhine said firmly, meeting the gaze of the law enforcement officer. His expression was sincere, without the slightest evasion, and he appeared completely open and honest.
"Alright, we understand. It's not a big problem for you. Just sign the papers and go home in a bit."
The law enforcement officer seemed satisfied with Rhine's answer, and his tone relaxed somewhat. He tidied the documents on the table, preparing to end the interrogation.
“Yes,” Rhine breathed a sigh of relief, secretly relieved that Arthur wasn’t coming to take him back this time; the last incident was embarrassing enough.
"Um, what happened to the injured person?" Rhine hesitated for a moment, but couldn't help asking.
He was somewhat concerned about the fate of the tall man, after all, he was the one who had personally used magic to stop him.
"Yes, intentionally harming civilians, he will be locked up until he reforms."
The law enforcement officer answered rather casually, as if such cases were commonplace for him.
"What if we go out and continue like this?" Rhine pressed, a hint of worry in his eyes.
The law enforcement officer's gaze lingered on Rhine for a moment, a hint of inquiry in his eyes. "Why are you concerned about this? What does it have to do with you?"
“I’m a little curious,” Rhine replied with a smile, his tone relaxed as he tried to conceal his true thoughts.
He was indeed curious about these questions, but more so out of concern for the injured waiter.
“We have a method of judgment. If all else fails, we can abolish magic and become ordinary people.”
The words of the law enforcement officers conveyed an unquestionable authority, clearly indicating that the law enforcement division had a well-established system for handling such issues.
"Oh, oh, oh." Rhine nodded. He had never heard of such a punishment, nor had he ever seen it in person.
He didn't know if the punishment was too severe or too lenient; he just wanted to learn more about the rules of this world so he could adapt better.
"Then, what about the injured waiter?" Rhine asked again, his eyes revealing genuine concern.
The enforcer glanced at Rhine with some impatience. "Why are you talking so much nonsense? Don't worry, we have professional healing mages here who can restore her injuries."
Although his tone was somewhat stiff, the content of his words reassured Rhine.
"Oh, okay, thank you." Rhine said thank you and prepared to get up and leave the interrogation room.
He felt much more relaxed, since the questioning wasn't as complicated as he had imagined.
"Wait a minute." Just as Rhine's hand was about to touch the doorknob, the enforcer's voice suddenly rang out, stopping him. Rhine turned around, looking at the enforcer with a puzzled expression.
"You know magic? I remember you didn't before."
The enforcer's eyes showed a hint of surprise; he was clearly taken aback that Rhine could use magic.
