Chapter 110 Preparation for the Next Lesson
"Ah!" Lucas roared in frustration, his voice filled with pain and struggle.
He tried to break free of the paralyzing effect of the lightning, straining with all his might to pull his shoulder away from the still-firing pillar of lightning.
Blood dripped down his arm, forming a bright red trail before falling to the ground.
His injured arm hung limply in the air. Despite the severity of his injury, Lucas's eyes still burned with an indomitable spirit. He still wanted to continue the fight and was unwilling to give up so easily.
Lucas mustered all his strength, relying on his other uninjured hand to grip his sword tightly and struggle to his feet.
His body trembled with pain, but his eyes remained unwavering, as if declaring his fighting spirit to Leon.
Leon frowned as he watched Lucas's scene, a sense of doubt and sympathy rising in his heart.
He thought to himself, "Was it really necessary to go this far?"
He even began to wonder if he had some deep-seated grudge against Lucas that would drive the latter to fight so relentlessly.
"Let's stop here." Raphael's voice came from the side, breaking the tense atmosphere on the field, his tone full of helplessness.
Upon hearing this, Lucas visibly relaxed. He stopped tensing his nerves and muscles, slowly lowered his sword, and sat down weakly on the ground.
A look of relief appeared on his face, as if he realized that continuing would only worsen his injuries.
Leon breathed a sigh of relief. He had been genuinely worried that if the fight had continued, Lucas's entire shoulder might have suffered irreversible damage. Now that it was stopped in time, with proper treatment, there shouldn't be any major problems.
"Teacher Leon, you are really strong." Raphael said with a smile, his eyes revealing his recognition of his strength.
"No, I almost got infected myself," Leon replied modestly.
"Thank you both for the wonderful match. Please allow me to treat Teacher Leon to a proper meal," Raphael said warmly.
"Then I won't stand on ceremony." Leon smiled slightly, feeling that going along with the other party's wishes was the best option at this moment, to avoid them coming to him again later.
...
"Fifty-fifty, is this what you call fifty-fifty?"
Raphael's eyes were like sharp blades as he coldly stared at Lucas kneeling below, speaking angrily. His voice revealed disappointment and dissatisfaction, clearly showing his extreme anger at Lucas's performance.
Lucas lowered his head, facing Raphael's anger, choosing not to explain or try to find any reason to defend himself.
During the battle, he deeply felt Leon's strength. Leon's calm and composed attitude made Lucas realize that there was an insurmountable gap between him and Leon.
“I’m sorry, Your Highness,” Lucas said in a low voice, full of apology. He knew that his performance had not met expectations and that he had let Raphael down.
Seeing Lucas's humble attitude, Raphael's anger gradually subsided. His gaze shifted to Lucas's bandaged shoulder, and he asked with concern, "Is your shoulder alright?"
“No,” Lucas replied briefly, but his voice still carried a hint of pain.
Raphael fell into deep thought, his fingers unconsciously tapping the armrests of his chair, making a rhythmic tapping sound.
Lucas remained kneeling below, neither rising nor speaking or offering any advice.
He knew his best option at that moment was to remain silent and await Raphael's next instructions. His head was lowered, his eyes resolute yet complex, perhaps reflecting on this defeat and how to improve his strength in the future.
"Any thoughts?" After a long silence, Raphael finally broke it. His voice was calm and deep, as if he were probing Lucas's true feelings.
"Very strong, not just ordinary strong, but unfathomably powerful." Lucas raised his head, his eyes revealing awe of Leon's strength. His words lacked their previous confidence, replaced by respect for the strong and an awareness of his own shortcomings.
Raphael squinted, his gaze piercing the air as he landed on Lucas. He seemed to be assessing Lucas's reaction, but ultimately said nothing more. His expression was complex, making it difficult to discern his thoughts.
"Go back and tell him to come over."
After a moment, Raphael broke the silence, his tone carrying an unquestionable command.
"Ok."
Lucas answered without asking for a reason, nor did he show any dissatisfaction or doubt. He knew his place; as a loyal subordinate, he was only required to carry out orders and had no right to question Raphael's decisions.
Raphael gazed intently at Lucas and commanded in a calm tone, "Go down."
He had his own plans. Now that he had finally managed to get out, he had no intention of going back immediately.
He planned to stay here for a while to observe the situation carefully. He didn't summon any of the Knights' captains because he was worried that it might not be safe enough, so he simply sent the Knights' vice-commander, Gali, instead.
Raphael was filled with questions. He couldn't understand why someone like Leon would appear in Barton City. He needed to ascertain some things, he needed more information to uncover some secrets.
"Brother, is something the matter?" Aurora's voice came from outside the door. She walked briskly into the room and asked curiously. Her eyes sparkled with respect for her brother and curiosity about the unknown.
“Nothing important,” Raphael replied with a smile, a smile that held a deeper meaning.
"I just want to know more about Teacher Leon. Didn't you say before that he could cast magic without a magic circle? Could you explain it to me in detail?"
"Okay, let me tell you, Professor Leon is amazing..."
...
Leon sat in his office, intently preparing for his next lesson.
As a college teacher, this job is his primary responsibility, and he takes it very seriously.
His course schedule is three sessions a week, which is undoubtedly a heavy workload for a teacher who needs to carefully prepare for each lesson.
Leon always prepared the knowledge points he would explain the day before. He never allowed himself to slack off in class, let alone his students. In his view, having accepted this teaching assignment, he had the responsibility and obligation to complete it well.
He often thought about the future of these students and what they might achieve after leaving the college.
Perhaps some students will be even more capable than him, or perhaps some will hold important positions and wield significant power.
Leon believes that his current education and guidance may yield unexpected results in the future. He even imagines that he might need their help again in the future, as these students are potential networking resources.
Leon remembered a saying that was very apt: "The martial world is not about fighting and killing, it's about human relationships and social interactions."
He firmly believes this statement applies everywhere. In this world, while ability is important, connections and relationships are equally indispensable.
