Chapter 91 Lobbying
Looking at the things that had been packed up in the house, Hepburn gazed forlornly at the front door and asked, "When will you be back after you leave?"
Agreed leaned against the door, somewhat hesitant to look at his wife. After a moment's thought, he replied uncertainly, "About six months. You know, there are many countries in the East. It will take a lot of effort to persuade them to unite."
"Then when are you leaving?"
"After the Knights of Light arrived in this country, Milton and I set off to leave, riding his royal griffin."
Hepburn stared blankly out the window, unsure what to say. Agreed walked over and hugged her, saying, "I'll be back soon." They looked at each other, then kissed… (Seven thousand words omitted here)
A few days later, the former members of the Knights of Light arrived in Sunset City. Agreed arranged new legal identities for them, and then he and Milton packed their bags and embarked on a journey to persuade nations to form an alliance against their enemies.
One night eighty days later
By a campfire in a forest, Agreed stared despairingly at the map in his hand, while Milton idly fiddled with the fire beside him.
After a while, Agreed asked to himself, "What other countries haven't we been to yet?"
Milton, fiddling with the campfire, replied casually, "No, we were rejected by the king of every country we went to. We're extremely efficient, basically one country a day, and we've almost visited them all. I didn't expect that, apart from Avalon, no country supports our idea."
Agreed could only sigh in despair as he looked at the campfire. These countries were on the verge of death, yet they were still thinking about ridiculous interests. The questions they raised were so narrow-minded. Some countries cared about having a high status or the power to rule after forming an alliance. Some countries cared about the distribution of land after winning the war. Greedy people always want more. Some countries simply expelled them for personal reasons (for example, the Griffin Empire turned against Milton because of the Royal Griffin in his hands and expelled the two of them).
These unreasonable demands and exorbitant conditions made it impossible for Agred to make any promises. Otherwise, if his own people started fighting over the unequal distribution of benefits before the battle even began, the war would be impossible to fight.
"Are we just going to go back like this?! To wait for the enemy to trample on our heads? Why do you all want to wait to die on that false throne?! Is your brain filled with nothing but shit?!" Agred roared to himself.
Milton looked at the annoyed Agreed and comforted him, "Don't think about it. If I were one of those kings, I would care about these things too. How many people can see as far ahead as you do? The throne is hereditary, not something that can be obtained by whoever is more capable or smarter. You're really asking too much of those kings who have been sitting on the throne for so long that they've gone mad."
However, I didn't expect the King of Avalon to support you unconditionally. It seems not all kings are idiots. If only there were a few more Avalons.
Upon hearing this, Agreed suddenly realized his mistake, and his eyes gradually turned fierce and cold. Then, having made up his mind, Agreed stood up and agreed, "You're right. Since that's how it is, then I'll turn every country into 'Avalon'!"
Milton asked with a puzzled look, "Am I right? Did I say that? Turn them into Avalon... What do you mean by that? Hey~ answer me!"
But Agreed ignored Milton's question and crawled into his blanket to sleep. Milton, feeling awkward, had no choice but to release an enchanted item with protective and alert functions before crawling into his blanket and falling asleep himself.
But what Milton didn't know was that starting tomorrow, a bloody coup would sweep across the East of this human kingdom. No one expected that a war without gunpowder would break out from within the East first.
From that day on, Agreed took control of each country he visited, using sorcery to control the king, assassinating his ministers who opposed him to eliminate dissidents, and wiping out the royal family and relatives of each country to prevent rebellion. In each country, Agreed had to secretly eliminate at least a hundred people in order to completely control the country. Fortunately, the kings of these countries were all incompetent, and Agreed's usurpation of power was successful without encountering any obstacles.
When Agred used this method to bring thirteen countries under his control, Milton finally couldn't hold back any longer.
That night, as the two disembarked from the griffin and began setting up camp, Milton asked, seemingly casually yet deliberately, "Are we really doing the right thing right now?"
Agreed's subordinate paused, then said ambiguously, "It depends on how you interpret it. There are many things in this world that are neither right nor wrong. I admit that I am the biggest beneficiary of all this, but it's not all just for my benefit."
Milton pressed, "But I can't take it anymore, Agreed. Aren't you afraid of your dreams at night? Aren't you afraid that those vengeful spirits will come here to take your life?"
Agreed continued setting up camp, nonchalantly remarking, "They didn't die unjustly at all. How many good people are there among the kings, nobles, and high-ranking officials of various countries? Even if I wronged them, I shouldn't be the one who should be afraid; they should be. Mages aren't warriors. Killing undead or ghosts is easier for me than killing chickens or sheep."
Milton shouted again, "Is all this really worth it? At this rate, many of us will die before the war even begins!"
At this moment, Agreed turned around and roared, "Waiting for the Church of Light to attack will only result in more deaths! Even if the war doesn't start, how many people die every day under this cruel class rule?! Milton, if you can't accept all of this, I can understand you, but I will continue. You can leave now. This slaughter will not stop, not for anything else but to prevent my family and home from being trampled by the enemy's iron hooves! It was those bastard kings who forced me to make this choice. I can't stay in a corner and wait to die!"
Milton fell silent, unsure how to respond. Yes, they had no other choice.
In the days that followed, Milton simply followed Agreed in silence, watching indifferently as Agreed carried out one massacre after another. He wanted to stop him, but he had no reason to, because he knew that Agreed was right.
To control a country, one must avoid conflict with legendary warriors and forbidden spellcasters as much as possible. Therefore, in order to bypass the powerful protectors and target the royal family, Agreed needed to spend a lot of time preparing a meticulous plan, which made their journey much longer than expected.
Eleven months later, Agreed, along with Milton, had essentially conquered all the countries in the East, leaving only the last one, the 'Griffin Empire,' which had not yet been seized and ruled by Agreed.
