Chapter 90 The Defection of the Knights of Light
Just seven days after the Knights of Light were disbanded, Agreed received a letter from Pushkin containing the surprising news that the Knights of Light had defected!
Of course, all of this happened at Pushkin's behest. In the letter, he said he didn't want his old friends who had fought alongside him to continue wasting their lives in this place with no future, so he sent the Knights to defect from the church and come here to join Agreed.
After receiving the letter, Agreed could only postpone his plans and wait for the Knights to arrive in Avalon. Lately, things had been chaotic, causing his arrangements to change again and again.
“Could it get any worse?” Agreed shouted to the sky.
Just then, Heya rode over on her white horse and said, "Captain, that guy named Emma the Wolfhound we encountered on our last escort mission has come to the Adventurers' Guild here carrying a big fat guy, and he says he wants to find you to fulfill the promise you made."
Upon hearing this news, Agreed was shocked and shouted to the sky, "God, you really grant my every wish?! What's going on lately? Strange things keep happening one after another. Take me there, I want to see what Emma wants from me." With that, Agreed sat behind Hea, and the two rode to the Adventurers' Guild.
Then Agreed pushed open the door and entered the Adventurers' Guild. He saw Emma sitting on the ground floor in the lobby, covered in wounds, while the fat man he had brought was being given emergency treatment by a doctor.
Agreed walked over and greeted him, "Long time no see, Emma. What happened to you?"
Emma struggled to her feet. Not wanting Agred to look down on her, she looked down at him and said hoarsely, "I'm just here to make you keep your promise. Kingpin's estate was destroyed by the Church of Light. I have to keep him alive, so I came here. If you remember what you said that night, then help me, help Kingpin take back everything he once had."
Upon hearing this, Agreed frowned instantly and replied, "I said I would help you within my capabilities. I don't have the ability to go head-to-head with the Church of Light. At most, I can help you and your damned master settle down in Avalon."
Emma sneered sarcastically, "That's true. You weren't very capable to begin with. So, the master will at least get the same fiefdom and title as before in Avalon."
"You're fucking pushing your luck, aren't you!" Rayleigh immediately stepped forward and roared upon hearing this outrageous demand.
But Agreed spoke up to reassure her, "Rayleigh, it's alright, I can agree to his requests. But Emma, have you thought this through? I said before that I was doing something for you, and the beneficiary of these requests you're making isn't actually you, so... this is a different price. I can give you a title and land, but you have to give me something in return."
Emma asked doubtfully, "What is it?"
Agreed pointed at him with a smile and said, "Your loyalty, working under me, you're a Grandmaster, no, you should already have one foot in the Legendary realm, a strongman like you... is worth the price."
Upon hearing this request, Emma was instantly enraged, but just as she was about to unleash a torrent of abuse, a weak voice rang out.
"Deal, sir, I agree to this transaction."
At that moment, Agreed looked up and finally noticed Kingpin struggling desperately on the ground like a wild boar. He squatted down and looked at Kingpin, asking, "What makes you think you can agree to this deal?"
Kingpin explained with a fawning expression, "Emma is just a dog under my command. Take her if you want, as long as you keep your word and give me a title and land. Don't worry, she's very obedient. She has no right to decide any of this."
Kingpin glared fiercely at Emma and shouted, "Emma, come here and kneel down to your new master! Useless trash, hurry up!"
Emma reluctantly walked over, knelt down, but stared fiercely at Agreed. Agreed looked at Kingpin, then at Emma, shook his head in disappointment, and stood up, saying, "Emma, to be honest, you've taught me a lot. You've shown me what servility is, you've shown me that human thinking is full of inertia and narrow-mindedness. Because I've learned these things from you, I often urge myself not to become like you. Now I'm giving you a chance, Emma. Just like I said, the only one who enslaves you is yourself."
As he spoke, Agreed pulled out the fine steel dagger that had been with him for most of his life from his waist and put it into Emma's hand.
Then Agreed pointed at Kingpin and continued, “Kill him, and the deal can still go on. Mr. Kingpin will be buried with the honors of a duke, and you will no longer be my slave. You will gain simple and pure freedom.”
Kingpin looked at Agreed in horror and trembled, "Sir, this is not what we agreed on!"
Agreed scoffed, “I’m just giving my slave a choice. It’s up to him whether he wants it or not. You have no right to question it. Without Emma, you wouldn’t even be qualified to make a deal with me. You stupid pig, you stay there and wait until he makes his choice.”
Emma approached Kingpin with a dagger in hand. Kingpin, sweating profusely, gripped the table legs around him. Under the threat of death, his thighs trembled uncontrollably, as if he were about to lose control of his bladder at any moment.
Emma still disappointed Agreed, who knelt down on one knee, held the dagger up to Kingpin, and then remained silent.
Kingpin, who had survived the ordeal, laughed arrogantly: "Sir, do you see what I said? He's just a worthless scoundrel."
Agreed walked over and sheathed his dagger, then said disappointedly, "Emma, I'll make this deal for your sake. Remember, you are now my slave. From this day forward, you cannot listen to a word Kingpin says. If I find that you have violated these conditions, then Kingpin will die!"
Then, Agreed casually left with the words, "Prepare two guest rooms for them, and put the cost on my tab." He then walked out without looking at the two men again.
In the following days, Kingpin was summoned by the King of Avalon and made a duke, replacing a royal relative's territory and title. Of course, that royal relative had already died before being replaced. After all, Agreed was already the mastermind behind the country, so this was a small matter that he could handle. Anyway, that royal relative was no good person, just like Kingpin. He didn't care who died. The most important thing was that from now on, his grudges with Emma were settled.
Moreover, at a time when they need manpower, it is undoubtedly the right choice for Agred to bring Emma under his command, since a Grandmaster-level warrior will greatly make up for their lack of high-end combat power.
The next day, Kingpin happily boarded his carriage and headed to his territory. Now nearly sixty years old, he had no other desires but to live out the rest of his life in luxury and honor.
And indeed, six months after Kingpin arrived in his territory, he died suddenly in his castle due to overeating and excessive pleasure. This time, Agreed did not take action, although he wanted to kill him, but Kingpin had indeed died of natural causes.
As for Agred, he finally packed his bags and prepared for a final life-or-death battle with the Church of Light!
