Mythology: Ragnarok

Chapter 74 War of Annihilation

Just like Agreed said, leave no one alive!

The siege lasted a full day, from high noon until the moon and stars were few.

The orcs' black blood stained the entire land black. Two hundred thousand soldiers were all slaughtered here without exception. Looking at the corpses and pieces of flesh all over the ground, Agreed felt nothing. At this moment, the leader of the ancient tree spirits brought the captured orc marshal to Agreed as requested.

At this moment, the orc marshal was bound by vines by the tree spirit. He could only struggle helplessly and roar in anger, "Despicable humans, how did you gain the support of the vampires and elves!"

Agreed looked at him but did not answer. He simply took out a fine steel knife and cut the vines binding him. Then he led over a horse and handed it to the orc marshal, saying, "That's not something you should be thinking about. I won't kill you this time. Let you live and go to the orc empire to tell me that Avalon welcomes the orcs to send a large army to their deaths!"

The orc marshal mounted his horse with a hint of doubt, then rode away without looking back. The commander of the Valkyrie troops approached and immediately questioned, "My lord, your actions are tantamount to releasing a tiger back into the mountains!"

Standing next to Agreed, Rayleigh chimed in, "Yeah, Captain, what are you doing?"

Agreed frowned, explaining wearily, "If we let him go back, the Orc Empire will know that the Elves and Vampires were involved in this battle, and then they will be wary. But the truth is that after this battle, Avalon will not receive any help from the Elves and Vampires. Letting him go can bring at least twenty years of peace to the border. What do you think I'm doing?"

Rayleigh suddenly realized, "So that's how it is! The captain is really cunning... and far-sighted!"

Agreed glanced sideways at the Valkyrie's commander and reprimanded him, "It's fine if an adventurer can't see my intentions, but if a general commanding an army doesn't even have this much brain, he'll lead his men to their deaths on the battlefield sooner or later!"

Agreed was very worried about this. If someone only had motor skills, they would be a good soldier, but as a general, they would be a disaster. No wonder Avalon had always been bullied by the Orc Empire. It turned out that those who led the troops were all warriors. They didn't understand that humans didn't have the resources to compete with the Orcs in terms of hard power.

At this moment, the Valkyrie's commander could only stand silently to the side, not daring to utter a word of rebuttal. Even the human side, which suffered the most severe losses in this battle, only lost about 10,000 people. The casualty ratio between the three races and the orcs on the battlefield was about one to seventeen!

Such terrifying results made it no exaggeration to call the man a god of war. The Valkyrie commander knew that the man before her would definitely be second only to the king in Avalon in the future. For the sake of her own future and her own life, she naturally dared not talk back and could only let Agreed scold her.

And so the elves and the tree spirits returned to the elven kingdom the next day, the vampire army returned to the western swamp, and Agred led the Valkyrie army back to the capital in a grand procession, winning cheers from the people.

The Orc Empire on the other side

The orc marshal rode swiftly back to the orc plains and rushed into the orc empire's palace to report the victory.

The orc marshal knelt tremblingly before the bone throne. The orc emperor on the throne looked coldly at the general before him, and then slowly pronounced judgment: "Taturu, as the commander of this expeditionary force, although the failure was not your fault, you are spared the death penalty but cannot escape punishment. I hereby sentence you to be dismissed from your post and demoted to a soldier. Step down. I do not want to see you again."

This verdict can be said to have plunged the orc marshal into despair. As a result, his decades of promotion have been in vain. The former orc marshal has now been stripped of his title and reduced to a common soldier.

But Taturu said nothing, for he was fortunate to have returned alive. He thanked Taturu profusely and left the hall to face his punishment.

Then, the orcish high shaman 'Gugol', a close advisor beside the throne, bowed and asked, "Your Majesty, isn't this punishment a bit too lenient?"

The orc emperor replied helplessly, "No one expected that the vampires and elves would support humanity. It's already a pleasant surprise that he came back alive."

Gugor continued, "According to Taturu, he was released on purpose. Is it possible that humans are deliberately trying to scare us so that they won't receive support from other races after this? We still have 600,000 elite troops. Even with the support of the other two races, it's not impossible for us to wipe out Avalon."

The orc emperor shook his head and said, "I can't gamble with all my resources. Sending out 200,000 troops this time was also a test. Even a small Avalon has caused us to lose 200,000 troops... Let's lie low for now. There's no rush."

After hearing this, Gugor could only sigh helplessly, "Vampires are understandable, but why would elves support humans? What do humans have that could move them?"

The orc emperor chuckled, saying nonchalantly, "What truly alarms me isn't the elven army, but those colossal, millennia-old tree spirits that Taturu mentioned! They are the elves' trump card, and the true power behind the scenes. Even they're involved in the battle; their scale is more than enough to flatten the orcish empire, let alone an army of two hundred thousand. That's why I believe we absolutely cannot intervene. We can't afford to gamble!"

After speaking, the orc emperor looked dejectedly into the distance. Avalon was like a thorn in his side, keeping him awake at night. He had originally planned to take advantage of the internal strife among humans to swallow it whole. Once he could swallow it, the fertile lands of humans would be within easy reach, and the orcs would advance unimpeded, acquiring vast amounts of land until they destroyed humans and completely ruled the continent. Alas, this time it was just wishful thinking.

Avalon proved far more troublesome than the Orc Emperor had imagined. It stood like an insurmountable barrier between the Orcs and humans, leaving the Orcs suffocating and forced to eke out a living in this barren wasteland.

……

Avalon capital

At that moment, Agreed was receiving the king's reward in the main hall.

The King of Avalon asked, "My dear minister, you have rendered great service. What reward do you desire? If I have it, I will grant it to you."

Agreed quickly bowed and requested, "Your Majesty, I have heard that the royal family has always treasured a legendary sword forged by dwarves. I wonder if it could be bestowed upon your subjects as a reward?"

Upon hearing this request, the King of Avalon immediately pretended to agree, but after hearing such an impudent request, the ministers beside him advised him: "Your Majesty, that sword is a priceless treasure and a symbol of the royal family. You must not give it to outsiders."

However, the King of Avalon, who had long been a puppet in Agreed's hands, defied all objections and gifted the sword to Agreed. Faced with Agreed's rising prestige, the dissenting ministers could only remain silent.

Afterwards, Agreed returned to Sunset Town in glory with his family who had been sent to the capital. From then on, all the officials, big and small, in Avalon knew this famous adventurer, and the name 'Magic Witch' became a topic of conversation for everyone in Avalon and even the surrounding countries.
