Chapter 66 Avalon Changes Hands

The King of Avalon sat on his throne, looking down at the frail figure below. Beside the figure were two sacks, one on each side, containing the heads of the Black Hawk Gang leader and his high-ranking members, along with the tokens on their bodies that proved they were the leaders of the Black Hawk Gang. With these valuable tokens as proof, the identities of these heads were beyond doubt.

The King of Avalon sat on his throne, not satisfied with the outcome. He would have preferred the Black Hawk Gang to kill Agreed and suffer heavy losses themselves, allowing the royal family to reap the benefits.

But now Agreed has once again perfectly completed the task assigned to him, and he can't find a single fault with it. If he were to frame him, he wouldn't be able to do so because of his face and the king's dignity. And Agreed is coming to claim credit when the ministers are in court. The king can't help but sigh that Agreed is really like a hedgehog, making it impossible to know where to start.

In the end, the king could only reward Agreed with some money and let him go. Unfortunately, if he had been more sensible earlier, things might not have gotten so bad. Now, even if he wanted to let Agreed go, he couldn't, because Agreed had murderous intent!

The day after everyone thought Agreed had left the capital, the third prince was killed by a monster that suddenly appeared while hunting; on the third day, the incestuous love between the sixth princess and her brother, the fourth prince, became the talk of the entire country, and the two, unable to bear the humiliation, committed suicide together; on the fourth day, the fifth prince suddenly fell ill in the palace and died.

Because the eldest prince died young, the Avalon royal family now only has the second prince, the puppet controlled by Agreed. The king of Avalon died out in just four days. In order to prevent the only heir from dying, Agreed's puppet is now being taken care of in every way.

Of course, Agreed's series of actions naturally aroused the king's vigilance and investigation. Unfortunately, none of these actions had any major flaws, making it impossible to find out who did it. Although the forbidden spellcasters of Avalon found traces of magic at the locations where the third and fifth princes had their accidents, one was traces of blood magic and the other was traces of sorcery, which was completely baffling, because in the general impression, these kinds of magic were not something that humans could learn.

So while they were still brainstorming, misled by various clues, tragedy struck again. This time, the King of Avalon fell ill. Although the most professional healing priests and the most experienced royal physicians were summoned immediately, it was ultimately too late. The priests and royal physicians concluded that the King was afflicted with twenty-six curses and also had a long-term incubation period of a deadly poison. He was now terminally ill and beyond saving.

However, this information was ultimately suppressed, and the general public was unaware of it. The official news was that the king had died from overwork.

Of course, some people suspected from a conspiracy theory perspective that the Second Prince had orchestrated all of this, since he was the beneficiary. Some ministers even plotted to use this as an excuse to overthrow the Heavenly General and seize the throne for themselves. However, all those who had such thoughts died mysteriously at home the next day. From then on, no one dared to have any wicked ideas. Even the kingdom's forbidden spellcasters and legendary warriors were terrified of the invisible and intangible killer.

Although everyone knows who the instigator or accomplice is, no one dares to resist or tear down the ugly disguise, because no one dares to gamble their life on whether that terrifying killer will visit their doorstep tomorrow.

At the state funeral, Agreed watched as the second prince, dressed in mourning, led a group of ministers to bury the king in the mausoleum. As the instigator, he coldly observed everything, then suddenly chuckled and disappeared from the spot. From that moment on, the country had a completely new master.

On the night after his burial, Agreed took a jug of wine to the now empty tomb. As he drank, he leaned against the tomb of the former king. After finishing his wine, Agreed turned around and looked at the tomb, muttering to himself, "These dozen or so mounds around you, big and small, contain the remains of your wife, children, brothers, and even cousins. I did all of that myself. A family should be together, right? Don't blame me. This is the price you have to pay when you try to scheme against me."

In Augustus, I understood that to survive well in a country, one must either stay far away from the monarchy or rise above it. When I left Augustus, I swore I would never let anyone control my life again. I would never run away again. Since you don't want to live well, then you can only die neatly like this. Goodnight, old man, the last… 'king' of this country! Hahaha!

After saying this, Agred burst into unrestrained laughter and then turned and left the tomb.

Thus, the Avalon royal family existed in name only!

After that, Argreed rode his dragon steed and returned to the border town of Sunset in less than three days. On his way back, he saw Hepburn and Hea, who had been waiting for him there every day, at the city gate.

How could the two of them have managed to get along so peacefully for several days?! And Hepburn's jealousy hadn't even been out of control! This surprised Agred greatly, but that wasn't something he should be thinking about. Upon returning, he immediately embraced his wife, and the two of them were all lovey-dovey, making Hea feel quite awkward standing next to them.

Upon returning, Agreed gave each team member two thousand gold coins as a reward for the trip. After all, he had come through a life-or-death ordeal and couldn't let everyone's efforts go to waste. He also had plenty of money and naturally couldn't treat his brothers unfairly.

The following days passed peacefully. Agreed became the mastermind behind the country, while secretly taking revenge on Harvey, the old fox who had betrayed them. He had the newly enthroned king investigate the private assets of this powerful official. As everyone knows, such things cannot withstand scrutiny. Later, Harvey's corruption was exposed, and according to the law, Harvey was stripped of his official position and demoted to a commoner. He even fell so low that he had to beg on the streets to survive. It is said that he eventually froze to death on the street one winter. It is quite ironic that a once wealthy royal official died in this way.

In the days that followed, Agred and his wife enjoyed a warm family time, but happy days are always short-lived. Soon, a bombshell announcement made everyone realize that the situation had changed dramatically.

The bombshell news is that Augustus's kingdom was destroyed by the Church of Light!

The destruction of an ancient nation with a history of nearly 10,000 years by the rising Church of Light undoubtedly serves as a wake-up call for all nations!

Augustus, the most powerful, the most profound, and the most unfathomable, fell under the iron heel of the Church of Light. All nations immediately began to unite in condemning the Church of Light's atrocities, while secretly forming alliances to jointly resist the Church of Light's wolfish ambitions.
