Chapter 32 Meeting
Milton, bewildered, retorted, "Slave? How could that be? If I had ever been a slave, would I still be here? I'd be dead somewhere long ago."
“But I have served as…” Agreed’s calm voice struck Milton like a thunderclap from a clear sky, and the air suddenly became quiet, as if time had frozen there.
Agreed continued unhurriedly, "I was a slave for three months. During those three darkest months of my life, I learned a lot in order to survive. I learned to compromise, to read people's expressions, to understand human relationships, and... to understand human nature."
I suggest you try it out when you have time. Believe me, the environment shapes and changes a person. You need to learn to turn hardship into your trial; what you learn is what you gain.” As he spoke, Agreed gave a sly smile, as if he were making a clumsy joke on him.
At that moment, Milton suddenly realized that he seemed to have never truly understood the boy in front of him. The boy saw through him completely, while Milton had never truly understood him in the slightest. This gave Milton an indescribable sense of fear.
Milton then said with some fear, "I really can't imagine what you've been through."
Agreed replied helplessly, "Believe me, you don't want to know. I'm sorry I've never told you about my past. It's not that I wanted to hide it, but I... wasn't ready to share my past with others..."
Milton said understandingly, “I understand, my friend. Nobody wants to share their tragic past with others, but remember I’m always here if needed.”
Agreed nodded and smiled at Milton, then continued studying the spellbook in his hands. Milton, seeing this, didn't disturb him any longer and got up to go to his mentor.
This semester, Milton won the trial championship and gained the favor of his mentor. Now his mentor has been taking him to do various enchanting work, which not only pays him well but also helps him accumulate experience and a lot of connections. So Milton's life has become very busy.
After leaving the cabin, Milton glanced back at Agreed and thought to himself, "Just you wait, I'll catch up with you someday, old friend."
The holiday ended quickly. Agreed and Milton were busy studying magic and enchanting, respectively, making their holiday even busier than when they were in school. However, before the start of the semester, the two still found some time to go to the tavern and get drunk together. In the end, they returned to their respective colleges as usual to start the new semester.
Back at the academy, Agreed once again plunged into the library to continue his innovative research on cultivation methods. Presidian could only express mixed feelings of love and hate towards his behavior, and could only come over from time to time to check on him, fearing that he would get stuck in a rut and go astray.
On the fourth day after the start of the semester, Agreed met the most important person in his life in the library, or rather... a woman who changed the course of his life.
That day, as Agreed was engrossed in his books as usual, a soft female voice sounded from beside him and asked, "Excuse me, do you know where the book on magic potions is?"
Agreed looked up and a blonde, blue-eyed girl came into view. Sometimes beauty is fleeting, and even years later, Agreed had to admit that at that moment... he was captivated.
"Hello, can you... hear me?" The girl waved her hand and asked, since Agreed was standing there frozen in place.
Agreed snapped to his senses and awkwardly replied, "Ah, I can hear you. You're looking for a book, right? Which one?" As he spoke, Agreed awkwardly stood up from his messy state, and several wobbly books fell from a height and hit him on the head as he moved, making the scene instantly hilarious.
The girl covered her mouth and chuckled softly, "I'm looking for the book on magical potions. If you're too busy, then forget it."
Agreed quickly called out, "No rush, no rush! The book you wanted is in section four of shelf number thirteen. I'll find it for you." With that, Agreed ran to the bookshelf where the books were stored, grabbed the magic book as fast as he could, and brought it back to the girl.
The girl took the book and thanked her, saying, "Thank you for your help." Then she turned and left, which inevitably made Agreed feel a little disappointed.
Agreed doesn't know where he got the courage to be so foolish as to strike up a conversation: "Excuse me... are you a student from the Elemental Academy? I don't think I've seen you before?"
The girl turned around with some surprise, then smiled and replied, "I'm not a student here, but I often come here to read. Is there anything I can help you with?"
Agreed waved his hand and said, "It's nothing, I just wanted to... um... get to know each other. My name is Agreed Reiler." Agreed then introduced himself.
The girl was a little surprised, but out of politeness she replied, "My name is Hepburn, and we should see each other often in the future." Then she turned around, found a quiet corner, and began to read her book.
Agreed scratched his head awkwardly, cursing himself for acting like a fool. Looking at the elfin beauty, Agreed finally gave up the idea. Just from her clothes and upbringing, it was clear that the girl was not someone a poor boy like him with no background was worthy of bothering.
So Agreed plunged back into the sea of books, sensing that his cultivation method was nearing completion.
Three days later
Argreed rushed out of the library with great enthusiasm, found a quiet place in the academy to sit down, and tried out the new cultivation method he had created.
Argreed named this technique 'Soul Vortex'. This technique begins by forging the soul in the River Styx, stealing soul power from the River Styx and condensing it around one's own soul to form a huge vortex. The original soul then absorbs and utilizes the soul power that has been compressed to the extreme by the vortex at the center of the vortex. In this way, the soul that cultivates this technique only needs to develop and continuously grow stronger.
Argreed ingeniously fused the Styx Soul Forging Technique with the Soul Gathering Technique, allowing them to operate completely on their own without his control. This ensured growth potential without having to divide his energy into three parts, allowing him to reap three rewards with one effort. Even Argreed couldn't help but praise himself as a true genius!
However, just a few days after Agreed began practicing the new technique, the problem of his soul leaving his body reappeared, causing Agreed to completely lose his composure. Damn it, why is this problem so persistent?!
After that, Agreed could only angrily suspend his cultivation and continue to develop his soul and stabilize his physical condition using the old method. In the end, Agreed decided to seek help from his teacher to see if he had any ancient books that could provide him with ideas for solving the problem.
