Mythology: Ragnarok
Chapter 30 Conspiracy
Just now, Agreed was hit by the light wave. If it weren't for the magical item given to him by Presidian, Agreed would have been dead long ago. However, Agreed also completely lost his ability to move after this attack. So, in order to save his life, Agreed quickly tore open a sixth-level magic scroll called "Shadow of Shadows" and became invisible on the spot, thus deceiving the man.
Agred's old wounds hadn't healed, and new ones had added to his already blurred consciousness. Despite this, he forced himself to stand and leave the spot until he reached a relatively safe place, where he finally collapsed from the strain. Agred had recognized his attacker. Only someone from the Church of Light could ride the Lion of Light and sneak into the Augustus Beast Forest undetected. This guy was definitely a high-ranking member of the Church of Light. That bastard was incredibly audacious; he dared to ride the Lion of Light, the standard mount for high-ranking members of the Church of Light, to commit such a heinous act openly. (Note: The Lion of Light is a high-ranking paladin-level war beast. It was formerly called the Barbary War Lion, a name given by its discoverer, but later, someone disliked the name for its imposing nature and renamed it the Lion of Light.)
Agreed knew exactly what those bastards were up to. They wanted to use this to create a talent gap among the younger generation of magicians in Augustus. Thinking deeper... it seemed that the Church of Light, blessed by the gods, was no longer content to remain in its corner of the world.
After figuring everything out, Agred fell into a coma due to the excruciating pain in his body. He was far too weak. But fate was on his side. The beast tide had been triggered so that no monsters would appear where Agred was. The safest place in this crisis was actually inside the Monster Forest behind the beast tide. Agred remained unconscious for three days under these circumstances.
three days later
Agreed awoke with a start from his hiding place. Thirsty and extremely weak, he struggled to take out his water jug and poured all the water on his face before taking a few sips (he was so weak that he could barely hold the jug steady). Agreed then used some low-level healing magic he had learned to slowly stabilize his injuries. Once he could move again, he forced himself to sit up and took out some bread stored in his spatial ring, which he swallowed slowly with the water.
After staying there for a while to replenish his strength and energy, Agreed stood up. He knew that if he stayed here any longer, he would eventually become food for other magical beasts. It was only because he was unconscious for the past few days and those carrion-eating magical beasts hadn't taken advantage of him that he was purely lucky. He had to leave this place as soon as possible, no matter the cost.
Agreed activated his senses and used a first-tier magic pathfinding cursor to guide his way. He limped towards the edge of the Monster Forest. Soon he heard the shouts of the rescuers. Agreed wanted to shout back in response to their search, but he couldn't speak. His throat seemed to be burned, making it difficult to even utter a sound. He had to endure intense pain just to open his mouth.
Agred then used all his strength to unleash a third-tier magic spell, "Fireball," into the sky. The flames that shot into the sky instantly attracted the attention of the search and rescue team, who quickly arrived at Agred's side. Upon seeing the search and rescue team, Agred immediately relaxed and completely lost consciousness.
A day later, Agreed groggily awoke from his bed and returned to the Elemental Academy. Presidian was sitting beside him, taking care of him.
Upon seeing Agred awake, Presidian was overjoyed and said, "My beloved disciple, you're awake! Are you feeling any better? Are you thirsty? Hungry? Come and drink some milk to replenish your fluids and nutrients."
Agreed took the milk and drank it all in one gulp, then let out a refreshed breath. After a while, he asked, panting, "Teacher, how did the beast tide... go?"
Presidian took the bowl from Agreed's hands, then sighed and said, "The beast tide appeared far too suddenly. Even you, one of the best students in this year's class, almost didn't make it back, let alone the other children. This time, the younger generation of the five major academies suffered heavy losses, at least half of them died. Only the Summoning Academy is in a slightly better situation. Their leader this year is Alma's beloved student. She used her beast-taming skills to save many students, but... the losses are still unacceptable to us."
Agreed exclaimed in surprise in a low voice, "The forbidden spellcaster 'King of the Beasts' Alma Aiger! She is Alma's disciple. No wonder she can control a pack of demonic wolves. It's just a pity that she is still too inexperienced. Otherwise, perhaps more people could have survived. Teacher, I'm sorry. It's all my fault. Although I did my best to inform the students, I am still too useless."
“Her name is Leline Egger, and she is Alma’s niece,” Presidian said, placing his hand on Agred’s shoulder to comfort him. “It’s not your fault. The beast tide appeared too suddenly. Even though a few old guys and I responded to the distress call immediately and rushed over, we were still a step too late. Fortunately, the quality of this beast tide was very low, something any mage could handle. We quickly dealt with all the magical beasts, otherwise the casualties would have been even greater.”
Agreed said angrily, "Teacher, this is not a natural disaster, but a man-made one! I saw the mastermind behind this beast tide in the forest. He was riding the Lion of Light and was definitely a member of the Church of Light. Those bastards have already reached out to Augustus!"
Upon hearing this, Presidian's expression immediately turned serious, and he asked Agreed for confirmation, "Are you sure you saw the Lion of Light?"
Agreed nodded affirmatively, "I'm sure. I took one of his attacks and almost died. I saw him up close then, and I'll definitely recognize him if I see him again."
Presidian calmly analyzed, "No, they are powerful now. If we raise an objection without concrete evidence, we will only be accused of framing them. I can only tell the Mage King this news and ask him to pay more attention to the Church of Light."
Agreed cried out in despair, "Were the thousands of souls who perished in the Beast Forest sacrificed in vain?"
Presidian pressed down on Agreed and said, "Of course not, but we have too many things to worry about. I know the strength of the Church of Light better than anyone. We can only secretly accumulate power to prevent being devoured by them. You should rest well. These are things we should be considering. Your most important task now is to heal your injuries. If you want to contribute, then wait until you become a great mage."
Presidian then laid Agred down on the bed and left. He needed to report the information he had obtained from Agred to the Wizard King as soon as possible. Agred lay on the bed, pounding his chest and stamping his feet in frustration.
Although the competition in the Warcraft Forest was fierce and he and the students had fought to the death, they mostly maintained a balance and no one wanted to cause any deaths. But this disaster... was simply too much for people to bear.
However, although the five academies are outwardly friendly but inwardly at odds, they can still unite against a common enemy in critical moments. Hopefully, the crisis facing the Church of Light will make Augustus fully realize his mistakes and prepare accordingly.
"You bastards from the Church of Light, I will never let you get away with this!" Agreed cursed resentfully, staring at the ceiling.
Argreed then entered a meditative state, urging the Styx River to forge and grow his soul. Although his body was not yet fully recovered, he had to make the most of all his time to improve his strength as much as possible.
