Mythology: Ragnarok

Chapter 16 Try

Looking at Tutankhamun, who seemed to have gone mad, Agreed instantly felt like he had been tricked. He was not excited by Tutankhamun's grand promises, but instead felt an unprecedented sense of crisis. Even with his extraordinary talent, he had failed to complete the path back then. Could he really possibly complete it?

According to Tutankhamun, thousands of predecessors who embarked on this path before Agreed have all perished. To obtain supreme power also means facing endless dangers. This is why Agreed is not excited. He knows that from this moment on, his future is destined to be full of peril!

Tutankhamun saw through Agred's thoughts and said with satisfaction, "Not bad, not bad. Caution is a very rare quality, especially after someone becomes 'rich overnight.' Kid, I'm residing in the Bible of the Dead. Come find me if you need anything. You're still a long way from truly inheriting my fortune. Hahahaha."

As it spoke, the ghost disappeared back into the ancient book, leaving behind a single sentence.

"Let me give you one last piece of advice, kid. Remember this: when you are at your weakest, that is precisely when you think you are at your strongest. This is a lesson I learned with my life. Remember it well."

Agred sat blankly on the floor, staring at the now peaceful little house, lost in thought. Suddenly, he realized he had class today!

Seeing the sun high in the sky, Agreed cried out in despair, "Oh no! I'm late!! I'm doomed!!!" With that, he fled for his life, running desperately toward the Elemental Academy. However, having just become a magician's apprentice, Agreed was not yet able to adapt to the dazzling array of elements before him, so he stumbled and bumped into walls everywhere he went, complaining incessantly.

Poor Agreed was already late. Now, rushing there would only make him half a day late or a whole day late. When Agreed arrived at the academy excitedly, he was immediately given a severe scolding by his tutor, Catherine. Not only was he used as a negative example, but he was also made to stand at the school gate for the next half day until school was over.

First, he questioned the teacher in class, and then he was late for half a day the next day. Now, Agrede has made a name for himself in the Elemental Academy. Although... the name is not good, Agrede's name is now known to the entire first year.

That night, Agreed dragged his exhausted body back to his cabin. He lay on the bed, utterly dejected. He had truly lost all face these past two days. As he lay in bed, Agreed once again began chanting the Styx Soul-Forging Mantra that was etched into his mind.

Argreed's soul left his body and returned to the edge of the River Styx. This time, Argreed was more cunning. He cautiously swam along the edge of the River Styx, taking small bites to steal soul energy from it. Once he felt he had enough, Argreed withdrew without lingering. He knew that the most important thing in cultivating this technique was to "not be greedy"!

This is a gradual process. As cultivation progresses, the amount of soul power he can absorb each time will increase along with his own strength. It's a virtuous cycle that snowballs. The worst thing to do is to be impatient. Trying to get fat in one bite is the most foolish thing to do.

Even so, Agreed, who returned with his soul power, still fell into a deep sleep. Now, his soul strength needs time to digest the power from the River Styx, and during this period, his soul will naturally fall into a deep sleep. Fortunately, Agreed's attempt this time was very measured, and at least he woke up before dawn, avoiding being late like yesterday.

After two days of adjustment, Agreed was able to control the elemental perspective on and off and act normally under these conditions, so this time Agreed finally came to the academy like a normal person.

Argreed entered the classroom and found a secluded corner to sit down. Even so, the people around him cast their gazes at him as if he were some strange animal, their eyes making no attempt to hide their mockery.

Agreed, however, didn't care, because he knew it was all inevitable. His recent behavior had indeed been making him look like a clown, constantly embarrassing himself, but what could he do but persevere and live on?

Ms. Catherine arrived at the classroom on time to begin her lesson. Unlike the mocking looks from the students, Ms. Catherine seemed oblivious to Agreed's presence and proceeded with her lecture. Moreover, Agreed frequently raised his hand to ask questions due to his absence, but all his questions were ignored.

Ms. Catherine clearly favored several of the more talented students, while harboring a deep dislike for Agreed and simply ignoring him. As the class was about to end, Catherine made a sarcastic remark to the students.

"Dear students, everyone must take class seriously. Some people are simply less talented and frequently skip classes. You should definitely not study with such good-for-nothings. In another year, the geniuses among you who will become magic apprentices will have to find their own mentors to learn magic. At that time, they will have to go to the Monster Forest for training, which will be a bloody and dangerous place. For those good-for-nothings who lack the awareness and talent, I suggest they drop out of school as soon as possible. That way, at least they won't waste their tuition fees!"

Agreed naturally understood that she was being addressed to him. Although his teacher Catherine was somewhat snobbish, her words were well-intentioned; at least she was a very responsible teacher. However, Agreed disagreed with her. So what if he lacked talent? With the power of the Styx Soul Forging Technique, he vowed that one day he would surpass everyone and trample the so-called Church of Light under his feet!

In the days that followed, Agreed diligently studied the magical knowledge taught by Catherine during the day and practiced the Styx Soul Forging at night. Time passed day by day, and soon the semester was coming to an end.

In a class near the end of the semester, Catherine reminded everyone: "Classmates, at the end of this semester we will have a written test and a magic element test. Students who fail the written test will be asked to leave, while the magic element test is to see if any of you have spontaneously awakened your magical talent, that is, to see if there are any geniuses who can join the ranks of magicians ahead of time."

"Don't be nervous, everyone. The magic element test won't count towards your grades, but if you pass, it will be a meteoric rise. After all, we won't be learning magic incantations until the second half of the year. The academy always treats self-awakened geniuses with exceptional care. Those who pass the test skip directly to the second year and get an extra six months of study, putting them far ahead of their peers. It's said that our principal was selected through this test."

Catherine was still talking animatedly, but then she started bragging about the headmaster's various achievements, which instantly made Agreed lose interest. However, Agreed was still very excited about the news, after all, he seemed to have already awakened and maybe he would become a genius that the academy would do its best to cultivate!
