Chapter 52 Chang'an

"Ah, we've arrived, Lord Marco Polo!" a sailor shouted.

"Is this Chang'an? It is indeed prosperous and powerful." Marco Polo stood on the merchant ship and looked at the magnificent city with admiration.

Chang'an, known as the "First Mighty City on the Continent," was the capital of the first powerful nation on the continent—the Tang Dynasty. It is the greatest miracle after the end of ancient civilization. It was built on the mysterious Wanxiang Tiangong and was a metropolis personally rebuilt and designed by the master Mozi.

After several generations of monarchs, under the current rule of Empress Wu, Chang'an has once again become a bustling and prosperous capital city where all nations come to pay tribute.

The magnificent Daming Palace, airport, and residential areas are surrounded and protected by a continuous wall of mechanical structures.

The people living here are proud of their capital city.

The magnificent and inclusive city of Chang'an, with its bustling streets, dazzling festivals, and coveted secrets, attracted countless people, making it the center of the continent.

Chang'an, with its magnanimous spirit, welcomed travelers and goods from all directions of the continent, creating a prosperous scene.

With abundant government resources and a policy of recuperation and openness, the people lived in peace and contentment, commerce flourished, markets thrived, and civilian government agencies sprang up like mushrooms after rain. Merchants, scholars, heroes, and people from various ethnic groups lived together harmoniously, forming a diverse and open ecosystem in Chang'an.

"Come on, push harder, heave-ho, heave-ho..."

Dozens of strong sailors worked together to pull the ropes to furl the sails and begin to moor the merchant ship at the harbor. Then they lowered the anchor, secured the deck, and began to unload the cargo from the ship.

Marco Polo saw the familiar mechanical servants moving among the sailors, going in and out of a hidden room.

"Hey, are there people living in there?" Marco Polo stopped a sailor and asked.

"I don't know, sir," the sailor said, bowing and scraping.

"Alright, you can go now." Marco Polo dismissed the sailors and was about to approach when...

A woman suddenly emerged from the room. She was tall and alluring, with long chestnut hair under a black baseball cap. She carried a purple cane, and had a pair of glasses over her emerald eyes. Short, black mechanical servants surrounded her at her feet as if guarding their queen.

She has an extremely strong aura that makes people want to submit to her; she possesses a very strong aristocratic air.

Looking at this noblewoman, Marco Polo suddenly thought of Milady; her haughty aristocratic air was exactly the same as Milady's.

However, they looked different. Marco Polo couldn't find any similarities between them, but he always inexplicably thought she was Milady. Perhaps it was that similar and familiar aura that made his mind preconceived.

"Who are you? I've never seen you on the ship before," Marco Polo asked as he approached.

But she ignored Marco Polo completely, coldly leaning on her cane as she walked straight past him and disembarked from the merchant ship.

The loyal mechanical obedience stopped Marco Polo, dashing his hopes of chasing after him to ask questions again.

When Marco Polo looked down from the ship, the woman had already vanished without a trace.

"How strange, is there such a person on a merchant ship?" Marco Polo shuddered and grabbed a sailor to ask.

"Sir, it seems that she funded this merchant ship, probably because she wanted to do business herself."

"Forget it, let's ignore her for now as long as it doesn't threaten my interests. The most important thing is to find out what's going on in Chang'an." Marco Polo stepped off the merchant ship and muttered to himself.

Merchant ships docked at Chang'an's airport, a place where all ships moored, located a few hundred meters outside the city.

When you come to Chang'an, you will inevitably pass through its gate—the Vermilion Bird Gate. Only by entering this gate can you be considered to have truly entered Chang'an.

Looking at the majestic Vermilion Bird Gate, Marco Polo immediately noticed the poems engraved on it.

That was the trace of Li Bai's sword-written poem when he first entered Chang'an—"I want to ascend to the heavens and grasp the bright moon." The characters are vigorous and powerful, yet also possess an ethereal quality, overflowing with heroic ambition and imbued with a sharp sword intent. It is a famous sight in Chang'an.

Li Bai's reputation as a "sword immortal" spread throughout Chang'an and even the whole country at that time.

Upon reaching the Zhuque Gate, one would see a long line of people, including foreign merchants who came to do business, students who came to study, and travelers who came to admire the scenery. They all waited in an orderly manner for the officers and soldiers to inspect and allow them to pass.

"Name?" one of the soldiers asked.

"Marco Polo, from Sunset Sea, came to Chang'an to do business, selling fireworks." Marco Polo finished speaking in fluent Oriental language in one breath, then pointed to the fireworks carried by his servants behind him.

As a language genius, he is fluent in multiple languages, and today he can finally put his skills to use.

"You can go now." The officers and soldiers looked at Marco Polo with new respect, not expecting him to speak Tang language so fluently. After inspecting the fireworks, they let him pass.

Upon entering Chang'an, the view suddenly opened up before me, with bustling crowds and a multitude of voices mingling together, creating an incredibly lively scene.

Marco Polo saw the towering, ancient clock tower ringing its bells on time, announcing the time, and everyone beaming with joy. Peace and contentment were the best words to describe them.

The long street leads directly to the magnificent Daming Palace in the center, clearly visible, with all the street buildings surrounding it like stars around the moon.

At the Daming Palace site, there is also a mysterious, ancient, and enormous stone gate that remains tightly closed and standing firm.

Marco Polo memorized everything he could see and go about, slowly sketching out a rough map of Chang'an in his mind.

"Chang'an City, I will uncover your secrets." Marco Polo smiled mysteriously.

"The adventure is about to begin."

He pulled down his hat brim, twirled the two pistols in his hands, and walked with an easy pace. Looking at the boxes of "fireworks," an excited smile appeared on his lips.

……

In a huge room.

The long-haired girl was copying the long calligraphy model, her face serene and tranquil, as if writing was all she cared about.

She silently stayed by the side of a person who was unconscious and covered in bandages.

Behind the girl, the person who had been unconscious for an unknown period of time seemed to twitch their fingers.

……

"This is truly an irrational choice," a woman on Marco Polo's merchant ship sighed as she followed the flow of people.

"How could I have made such a choice? Since when did I start to cherish the feelings in my heart?" That signature hoarse voice was drowned out by the clamor of the crowd.

"When did my heart begin to waver? I only need to be rational."

She gazed at the magnificent Daming Palace with a complex expression, her tone tinged with bitterness: "Haidu still lags behind it, but catching up is only a matter of time."

Her turquoise eyes darted around, as if searching for something.

"Kain, where are you..."
