Chapter 93: The Realization of the Ground of No Remaining Dependence (VII) “Transcending the Cycle of Reincarnation, Leading All to Escape”
Deep within that gloomy and terrifying hell, Ah Ming's Dharmakaya descended as a beam of compassionate golden light. Here, flames billowed, ghosts howled, and suffering beings struggled in endless torment. Ah Ming first arrived at the Tongue-Pulling Hell. There, he saw souls who had spoken evil and slandered others in their lifetime, their tongues entangled by long iron hooks, writhing in agony.
In a calm yet dignified voice, Amin spoke, "All suffering beings, do not despair. Your present suffering stems from past negative karma. But if you repent and listen to the Dharma, liberation is still possible." A soul named Zhao Gang, once a vicious bully in the human world, heard Amin's words and was overwhelmed with remorse. "I was wrong. In my time on earth, I only sought the pleasure of words, not realizing this would be my fate. Master, please save me!" Amin looked at him and said, "You must sincerely repent and vow never to speak evil again. I will then teach you the Dharma and help you eliminate your karmic obstacles." Zhao Gang nodded quickly, and Amin began to recite sutras from the Yogacarabhumi Sutra. Each word transformed into a golden light, merging into Zhao Gang's soul. He felt his suffering gradually ease, and a longing for liberation welled up within him.
Next, Amin arrived at the animal realm. In a vast forest, he transformed into a spirit bird. There lived a kind-hearted fawn, but it was often hunted by other beasts, and its life was filled with fear. Amin flew to the fawn and spoke in bird language, "Fowl, although you are in the animal realm, do not be afraid. Do more good deeds, such as warning other small animals of danger, and thus accumulate merit." The fawn seemed to understand Amin's words, and gratitude filled its eyes. From then on, the fawn became more vigilant, repeatedly helping other animals avoid hunters' traps, and its spirituality continued to grow.
In the human world, there lived a woman named Lin Yue. She was kindhearted, but her life was full of hardships. Her husband died young, leaving her with a young child. Her relatives frequently quarreled with her over property. Lin Yue toiled diligently every day, but still struggled to make ends meet.
One day, Lin Yue took her child to the mountains to collect herbs, hoping to earn some money to supplement the family income. Suddenly, the child fell and was injured. Lin Yue was distraught, yet at a loss as to what to do. Just then, a white-haired elder, a manifestation of Ah Ming, appeared before her. Holding herbs in hand, he knelt down and bandaged the child's wound. "Don't panic, my dear donor! All suffering in this world is temporary. With kindness in your heart, you will overcome this." Lin Yue said gratefully, "Thank you, old man! I always believe that good deeds will be rewarded, but the pressures of life are truly overwhelming." The elder smiled and said, "You should recite Buddhist scriptures more often and face everything with a peaceful mind. Look at the flowers and trees in these mountains. Despite weathering storms, they continue to thrive. You should do the same." Lin Yue pondered this.
However, upon learning of the old man's help in the mountains, Lin Yue's relatives grew jealous, suspecting he had given her something precious. They approached her and demanded she hand over the so-called "treasure," threatening to expel her from the house unless she gave them the so-called "treasure." Lin Yue felt aggrieved, but remembering the old man's words, she fought to control her emotions. "Relatives, I didn't receive any treasure. You simply helped me care for my injured child. We are all family, why are you being so aggressive?" But the relatives refused to believe her and continued their harsh words.
Lin Yue, overcome with pain and helplessness, returned home and prayed silently before a Buddha statue. At that moment, she seemed to see a gentle light, and a surge of strength surged within her. She decided to stop arguing with her relatives and instead took her children and left home, moving to town to earn a living on her own. She began selling her handicrafts there. Although life remained difficult, her resolve grew stronger.
In a coastal fishing village, fishermen make their living by fishing. However, in recent years, due to overfishing, fish stocks have dwindled, and their income has plummeted. At the same time, storms at sea have become more frequent, putting many fishermen in danger while out at sea.
Amin's Dharmakāya noticed the plight of the fishing village and transformed himself into a wise man. He gathered the fishermen and said, "My fellow villagers, you are overfishing, disrupting the ecological balance of the ocean. This has led to a decline in fish stocks and frequent disasters. If you want to change the current situation, you must reduce your catch and pray for the ocean before going out to sea, expressing gratitude for its gifts." The fishermen were filled with discussion. An old fisherman stepped forward and said, "Our ancestors have relied on fishing for generations. If we reduce our fishing, how will we survive?" The wise man looked at him and said, "You can try to develop other livelihoods, such as shellfish farming or developing tourism that takes advantage of the seaside scenery. This will not only protect the ocean but also make your lives more stable."
While some fishermen harbored doubts about the wise man's words, a few young people began to put his advice into practice. They established shellfish farms on the seashore and renovated village houses in preparation for welcoming tourists. In the process, they experienced the beauty of living in harmony with nature and gradually came to understand the Buddhist teachings of cause and effect and compassion.
Amin, in various incarnations and methods, actively guides sentient beings out of the suffering of samsara, whether they are suffering souls in hell, animals in the animal realm, or people suffering the torments of life in the human world. Under his guidance, they gradually move toward liberation. This process involves repentance and awakening, as well as the entanglements of human interests and emotional conflicts. However, Amin, guided by the enlightened state of no remaining dependence and the wisdom of the Yogacarabhumi Sutra, helps sentient beings in various situations to practice good deeds, correct their hearts, and reap the hope and fruits of liberation. He allows the light of the Dharma to illuminate every corner, enabling more sentient beings to transcend the constraints of samsara and reach eternal light and freedom.
