Bright Sword: Conquer the monk at the beginning and take down Zhou Weiguo
Chapter 395 Important Information
After hearing this, Xiaohu was silent for a moment, then nodded. "I understand, Captain."
Qin Cang's gaze drifted off into the distance once more, his heart still filled with unease. Although he knew he had to remain calm, his heart struggled to remain calm. The enemy's movements were as unpredictable as a ghost, and the presence of the traitor made everything even more confusing. They had to proceed with caution; any wrong decision could put them in even greater danger.
"Let's go." Qin Cang took a deep breath and said in a low voice, "We can't waste any more time."
Xiao Hu followed closely behind, stepping into the pitch-black night with Qin Cang. The air around them was still cold, and the wind whistled through the treetops, as if reminding them that this forest was not friendly. They had to be careful with every step, trying their best to avoid exposing their whereabouts.
Qin Cang's mind raced as he pondered the enemy's deployment and the traitor's possible location. Although he wasn't sure if he could find the enemy's weakness, he knew that only by moving forward could he find a chance to break through.
"Xiao Hu, remember, don't act rashly at any time." Qin Cang warned in a low voice, a calm glint in his eyes, "Our goal now is to survive, not to take risks."
"Captain Qin, when do I leave?" Xiaohu's tone was filled with uncontrollable excitement and a hint of youthful pride. For him, every mission was a chance to prove himself, and this one was a challenge he couldn't afford to fail.
Qin Cang turned around, his face stern, but a hint of subtle concern lingered in his eyes. "Xiao Hu, this objective isn't easy. The enemy's outposts are impeccably positioned, and they have heavy firepower. You must sneak in like a wisp of wind, silently and unnoticed, complete the reconnaissance, and bring back intelligence. This isn't a matter of courage, understand?"
Xiaohu nodded vigorously, his eyes burning with determination. "I understand, Captain Qin! Don't worry, I will complete the mission!"
Qin Cang patted his shoulder gently, his tone softening. "Remember, returning alive is the most important thing. The team needs you, and I need you too." He then pulled a dagger from his waistband and handed it to Xiaohu. The dagger was incredibly sharp, its blade gleaming with a cold light, and a narrow crack carved into the handle. It was Qin Cang's personal weapon, and now he was handing it to Xiaohu.
When Xiaohu took the dagger, he was stunned for a moment. He knew it wasn't just a weapon, but a trust, an unspoken promise. He solemnly inserted the dagger into his waist, turned, and ran quickly into the depths of the woods. His figure gradually blurred in the morning light, as if blending into the outline of the earth.
The forest path was covered with fallen branches and leaves, and every step made a subtle sound. Little Tiger crouched low, moving cautiously like a nimble mountain cat. Every muscle tensed, his ears keenly listening to every movement. After several hours of trekking, he finally approached the enemy stronghold.
The stronghold was a camp hidden deep in the woods, surrounded by barbed wire and hidden sentries. Xiaohu crouched behind a large rock, carefully observing the enemy's movements. He saw five or six well-camouflaged tents within. Several soldiers sat around a fire, their rifles casually leaning against their sides. They appeared relaxed, yet remained alert. Farther away, in a bunker, the dark muzzle of a machine gun was faintly visible.
"They're really cautious," Xiaohu muttered to himself, but he wasn't afraid at all. He quickly scanned the terrain and found that the northern side of the camp, near the cliff, was slightly less well-defended. Clearly, the enemy believed the possibility of an attack from there was extremely low.
Night fell, and moonlight shrouded the entire camp in a hazy silver glow. The moment Xiaohu had been waiting for finally arrived. Using a thorn bush as cover, he slowly approached the northern defenses of the camp. His movements were incredibly light, like a leaf blown by the wind, and he didn't alert any of the guards.
As he neared the barbed wire, Xiaohu pulled out the dagger Qin Cang had given him and used it to cut a few strands, enough to allow him to slip through. Holding his breath, he crawled through the fence, trying not to make any noise from his clothes rubbing against the wire. Next, he had to pass a patrolling soldier. He was leaning against a tree trunk, yawning, looking exhausted.
Xiaohu edged closer, dagger gripped tightly in his hand. As they drew closer, he could even hear the soldier's faint breathing. Suddenly, as if sensing something, the soldier turned sharply, his gaze darting in the direction of Xiaohu's hiding place. Xiaohu instantly held his breath, his entire body motionless, the cold gleam of the dagger quickly hidden within his sleeve.
"Who?" the soldier whispered, vigilantly pulling out his gun and looking around. But after a few seconds, he relaxed, muttering to himself, "It must be the wind, damn it." He leaned back against the tree, his expression relaxed again.
Xiaohu let out a quiet breath and continued forward. Like a ghost, he skirted the patrol line and entered the depths of the camp. His target was the largest tent in the center of the camp, which was likely to contain important intelligence.
After entering the camp, Xiaohu moved more cautiously. He observed several soldiers patrolling back and forth outside the tent, but their pace and the regularity of their shifts allowed Xiaohu to spot a gap. He took advantage of a soldier's backseat and quietly slipped into the tent.
The tent was dimly lit, filled with maps and various documents. Xiaohu quickly scanned the map with the dim light of his flashlight, noting the enemy's positions. His gaze lingered for a few seconds on a document—a telegram filled with code names and contact frequencies, clearly the enemy's battle plan. He quickly folded the document and hid it in his arms.
Just as Xiaohu was about to evacuate, a shout suddenly came from outside, "Who's in there?" Then, footsteps quickly approached the tent.
Footsteps outside the tent grew closer, mingling with whispers and wary tones. Xiaohu held his breath, gripping the dagger tightly, his palms drenched in sweat. Time seemed to slow to a crawl, every second straining his nerves. He leaned against the corner of the tent, trying to control his rapid breathing and press his body closer to the ground, trying not to reveal any flaws.
"I seemed to see a shadow flash just now. Are you sure it's correct?" A low voice sounded outside the tent, with a hint of doubt and vigilance.
