Chapter 5 The Secret of Touch Screens
Sunlight filtered through the slits in the curtains, casting dappled shadows on Zhang Wanqing's desk. She sat at her desk, a book on modern technology in her hands, her brow furrowed, her eyes revealing a yearning for the unknown and a hint of confusion. Her father, Professor Zhang, pushed open the door and, observing his daughter's focused profile, felt a surge of warmth in his heart.
"Wanqing, I'm free today. Let me take you to buy a smartphone." Professor Zhang said softly.
"Smartphone? Don't I have one?" She said while looking at her phone. Her phone seemed to have been dropped, and there were several scratches on the screen, making it difficult to see clearly.
"A smartphone is like an encyclopedia. It can help you find information, make calls and send text messages," Professor Zhang explained with a smile.
A hint of curiosity flashed in Zhang Wanqing's eyes. "Since I can look up information on my mobile phone, I don't have to go to the library to use the computer to look up information. A smart phone, maybe it can help me find a better way home." She stood up and followed her father out of the house.
They arrived at a mobile phone store, where a wide variety of phones were on display. Zhang Wanqing listened intently as the clerk enthusiastically explained the features of each phone. Her eyes lingered over the phones, her heart filled with curiosity.
"Each of these phones is like a miniature world. The features are just amazing."
Finally, Professor Zhang selected a mobile phone for her that was stable and easy to use. Zhang Wanqing carefully took the phone, her fingers gently touching the screen, feeling the warmth of technology.
Back home, Zhang Wanqing sat at her desk, holding her newly bought smartphone. Her eyes fell on the screen, and the neatly arranged small icons made her feel at a loss as to where to start.
Professor Zhang patiently explained the basic operation of the phone to her: "This is the power button. Press it and the phone will start."
Zhang Wanqing carefully pressed the power button. As the phone started up and the screen gradually lit up, she couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
"These are applications, and each icon corresponds to one." Professor Zhang pointed to the icons on the screen and continued to explain.
Zhang Wanqing's fingers gently touched the screen, and she began to try to click on the icons. She felt a little unfamiliar at first, but soon she mastered the basic operation. "It's amazing that these small icons can access so many functions." Her eyes revealed a hint of excitement, as if she had opened the door to a new world.
Zhang Wanqing began exploring the phone's other functions. Her eyes fell on an app called "Browser." With a simple tap, a whole new world appeared on the screen.
She began to try to enter the URL. Although the pinyin was unfamiliar to her, she relied on her memory and slowly spelled out a URL. Her heart was filled with curiosity and excitement. She clicked on a webpage about the Tang Dynasty. When she saw those familiar historical figures and events, tears welled up in her eyes.
She learned how to use the phone's various functions, from texting to taking pictures, from listening to music to watching videos.
Zhang Wanqing stood at the library window, cell phone in hand, her gaze fixed on the world outside. She knew that this world in her palm would be a bridge connecting her past and future.
Professor Zhang is a senior professor in the Chinese Department of a university, renowned in the academic community. He is not only well-versed in classical literature but also possesses profound insights into modern literature. His classes are always packed, and students are captivated by his extensive knowledge and engaging presentations.
Zhang Wanqing grew up in a family steeped in scholarly tradition, where her father had a profound influence on her. She remembers her father always sitting on a rattan chair in his study, a book in hand, a cup of delicately fragrant green tea beside him. His eyes were focused and penetrating, as if he could penetrate the text and see into the depths of history.
"My father always said that books are the golden house and the beautiful woman. His world was built by books."
Professor Zhang treated his students with sternness and fairness, but he was always gentle and patient with his daughter. He taught Zhang Wanqing how to appreciate the rhythm of poetry and understand the profound meaning of writing. His inner monologue was filled with pride: "Wanqing is my pride. She has inherited my love of literature."
I remember one time when Zhang Wanqing was confused about her understanding of a poem, her father patiently explained it to her, from the background of the poem to the poet's emotions, to the charm of each word. His voice was gentle and powerful, like a spring breeze blowing through my heart.
"Poetry is more than just a collection of words; it's an outpouring of the poet's emotions and a microcosm of the times," Professor Zhang said as he picked up the book and pointed to a line. "Look at this line, 'A bright moon rises over the sea, and we share this moment across the world.' It's more than just a description of the scenery; it expresses the poet's longing for his distant loved ones."
Zhang Wanqing listened intently, her eyes revealing her admiration for her father and her thirst for knowledge. She was filled with emotion: "My father's words always allow me to see the wider world behind the words."
Professor Zhang not only imparts knowledge in the classroom, but also often takes his daughter to various academic conferences and lectures. He hopes that his daughter can access more academic resources and broaden her horizons.
At an academic conference, Zhang Wanqing listened to scholars from around the world interpret and discuss ancient literature. She was captivated by their fresh perspectives and profound insights. "These scholars are like a treasure trove of knowledge. Every word they say inspires my thinking."
Zhang Wanqing began to express her own views. Although her voice was still a little immature, her views were recognized by the scholars present. Her father looked at her with his eyes full of satisfaction and pride.
As time went by, Zhang Wanqing grew older and her father grew older. But what remained unchanged was their love of literature and their thirst for knowledge. Zhang Wanqing knew that no matter where she went, her father's influence would always be with her.
"My father is not only my relative, but also my mentor. He taught me how to study and how to live."
When applying for university, Zhang Wanqing chose the Chinese Department, where her father was studying, without hesitation. She consistently earned scholarships and was an outstanding student. Nearing graduation, she took the newspaper recruitment exam and was accepted, placing second. As for the top scorer? That person will become her featured later in the story.
Just as her family rejoiced for her, one day she suddenly fell down the stairs and fell into a coma. When she woke up, the story of Chapter 1 began. The third daughter of the Su family from the Tang Dynasty had traveled through time and space to become Zhang Wanqing. Now, she possessed the memories of her original host, as well as those of the ancient third daughter of the Su family, but even more so, those of Zhang Wanqing. However, no matter how much she remembered about Zhang Wanqing, she had no memory of using modern tools like computers and cell phones. She was like an ancient person with modern appearance, feeling both familiar and unfamiliar with the present, and having to learn everything from scratch.
