My Mr. Monster

Chapter 30 Is this a specialty of your hometown?

"I noticed you have quite a lot of snakes here. I've seen four or five along the way."

Wu Yang casually picked up a small stone from the ground and threw it lightly towards the grass not far away. Then, in Lu Xuan's horrified eyes, it seemed that something big quickly left the grass, causing a row of green grass to shake.

Lu Xuan swallowed and explained stiffly, "It's a local specialty... If you want to eat it, just grab it. No one will condemn you."

"I don't know what kind of snake that was just now."

"There should be a lot of poisonous snakes here, but they are all afraid of people. Anyway, I have only heard of one person in the village being bitten before, and I haven't heard of anyone else being bitten by a snake since then."

"It doesn't matter if I get bitten. I've never seen a venomous snake that I find difficult to deal with. Besides, my body is very resistant and almost immune to most viruses and those weird poisons."

Lu Xuan looked at Wu Yang. He now remembered that Wu Yang seemed to have mentioned some human experiments, and he seemed to be the subject of the experiment...

Lu Xuan didn't know what type of human experiment was, but no matter how he thought about the process, the word "experiment" made him know that it was about finding answers through mistakes, and the process was often extremely painful.

"If you're really bored... we can go play by the river. When I was a kid, I liked to find some beautiful stones by the river and put them at home," said Lu Xuan.

Wu Yang seemed to recall something when he heard this. "Did you pick up those broken rocks in your drawer on purpose?"

"What broken stones? Each one is different. Some look like numbers and some look like letters. They are all treasures! They are my memories." Lu Xuan said seriously.

"Isn't the gem I gave you more beautiful? It's sparkling." Wu Yang said.

Lu Xuan nodded when he heard this, "They are very beautiful, but their meanings are different."

"I don't quite understand, but it feels very different." Wu Yang pulled a piece of grass in his hand and subconsciously circled it.

"Compared to the pebble you gave me, which ones are more... meaningful?" Wu Yang suddenly asked.

Lu Xuan was stunned by the question. He was silent for a moment and then said, "This is something you should think about. It's a gift from me, so it means something to you. Even if you don't like it and want to throw it away, it's your decision."

"Is that so?" Wu Yang seemed to understand.

After walking for most of the way, they were finally approaching the river. As they stepped onto the flood-prevention embankment, they saw another snake basking in the sun.

"What happened along the way..." Lu Xuan felt really fucked up at the moment. He felt that snakes were too common in his hometown. He just looked around when he wanted to see one and he actually saw one.

"I'll catch you and give you a snack?"

"Let's see him off..."

Wu Yang took a few steps forward and stomped on the ground. The frightened snake suddenly flew into the grass on the side as fast as lightning.

"It seems like a waste no matter how you think about it. We can make do with any snakes we encounter along the way."

"Don't eat these unless you have to. They have lots of parasites and little meat."

"Well, now that you say so."

Lu Xuan was speechless, "I'm doing this for your own good..."

"Is it there? I think it's a little deeper there."

"How about we go somewhere lighter? It's hot, but I don't want to go to that damn place... some shade."

"What? Did I almost drown you?" Wu Yang said happily.

Lu Xuan didn't say anything, just nodded.

Wu Yang was silent. His emotions almost died here...

"But it doesn't look very deep. I can see the bottom even at less than ten meters."

"That's why it's so deep. The reason why my scalp tingles when I see deep water now is because of this place," Lu Xuan said. "When I was young and ignorant, I almost lost my life here."

Wu Yang looked at the huge rocks around him. They seemed to be a large piece with potholes on the surface. But what he couldn't see clearly was the water under the rocks... probably because it was not transparent.

If a child comes here...it seems that he will be quite alive if he doesn't die.

"Can you swim?"

"I was afraid of death, so I learned it."

"Then what are you afraid of?" Wu Yang was completely speechless, looking at Lu Xuan who looked so righteous but was actually so timid.

"I only have one life, and there are still many things I haven't tried. I don't want to die so soon, but at least I don't want to die in vain."

"I can't tell... considering your curiosity on my end... it's hard not to die quickly."

Lu Xuan glared at Wu Yang, "What do you mean?"

"It's you...Okay, I'm not well educated so I won't say anything." Wu Yang smiled.

Lu Xuan looked at Wu Yang and smiled foolishly, and felt that this guy was a little crazy. This was probably what was meant by mood swings. Sometimes he was emo, sometimes happy, and it was impossible to figure out what he was thinking.

"Is there any big fish here, Lu Xuan?"

"There are small fish, but they are also difficult to catch. When I was a child, I liked to use some firecrackers to fry fish during the Chinese New Year. You know what, I still think that is very fun now." Lu Xuan said with a nostalgic expression on his face.

"It's a pity. Now that I'm that old, I don't dare to play with those things... I'm afraid the adults and children will laugh at me."

"Why are you afraid of these? If you want to play, just play. I thought you were more insightful than me, but you turned out to be so timid." Wu Yang couldn't help but complain.

"I'm different. Forget it. There's no point in saying more. Let's go. Since you keep asking to come here, I'll bring you here too." Lu Xuan said and changed the subject directly.

The two walked through a small puddle left by the high tide. Wu Yang was surprised to find that it was full of shrimps. There were so many that it seemed like a whole net could be filled with them.

"Don't you want to take some of these back?" Wu Yang grabbed Lu Xuan.

Lu Xuan glanced at him disdainfully and said, "Brother, I don't think you're hungry, can you please stop trying to eat every living thing you see?"

"There are so many shrimps, and they look so crispy. It would be a waste not to eat them."

"...We are here to swim. I'll bring you here to fish when we have time." Lu Xuan took another look at the shrimps in the puddle. There were quite a lot of them, but he didn't know what kind of shrimps they were.

"I like your hometown very much. It's a great place." Wu Yang suddenly said.

"Thank you." Lu Xuan pulled Wu Yang and stepped carefully onto the stone.

"Did someone put the rocks here on purpose?"

"Well, it's closer if you take a detour this way when going to market, and the water is the shallowest here, so many older people like to go this way."

Lu Xuan stepped on the stones carefully for fear of stepping into the water, but he ended up stepping on an unstable stone. His balance was instantly broken, and he was about to fall into the river, so he quickly called for help.

"Damn it, Wu Yang, save me!"

The next second after he finished speaking, Lu Xuan felt his body being supported by a strong hand. Wu Yang laughed when he saw Lu Xuan almost scared out of his wits. It was so funny.

"You didn't die from the fall. I thought there was a cliff below you just now."

"Don't let go. I'm not on my feet yet. I can't run back soaking wet. It would be too embarrassing."

"Got it." Wu Yang watched Lu Xuan constantly adjusting himself, and finally he slowly stabilized his body.

Only then did Wu Yang realize that Lu Xuan's waist was really strong and resilient.

"All right?"

"Okay, I'm scared to death. If I fall into the river while crossing it at the age of 20, I will remember it for the rest of my life." Lu Xuan was frightened for a while, and he tried every step before taking it.

"You're too cautious." Wu Yang said as he was on guard, fearing that Lu Xuan would lose his balance again, and his hands were almost always raised.

"If you're not careful, I'll fall into the river just now." Lu Xuan said unhappily. Finally, he quickly reached the other side of the river in a few steps.

Wu Yang walked very leisurely, as if walking on flat ground. The stones seemed to be particularly well-behaved under his feet. Lu Xuan looked at him in confusion. They were all just feet, but there was such a big difference.
