Traveling through Thailand

Chapter 2 Enrollment

After getting out of the taxi, I took a photo with the driver and walked into the hotel with my suitcase. Just as I finished the formalities and was about to swipe my card to enter, I received a call: "Yiyi, where are you now?"

"Hotel."

"Why don't you come directly to the company?"

"I want to rest first. I'll talk to you after I'm well rested."

"Oh, wouldn't it be better to just rest at home? Staying in a hotel is so inconvenient."

"If you have anything to say, wait until I wake up and then hang up."

"Hey, you." The phone was hung up before he could finish his words.

He didn't get too angry when the call was hung up. He looked at the woman sitting on the sofa cheerfully: "Hey, this kid still has such a bad temper."

"Like father, like son. Now that my son has arrived safely, I am relieved." After saying that, he stood up and prepared to leave.

"Are you leaving now? Aren't you going to see your son?"

"Of course we have to meet. You can't really let your son come here on his own, right?"

He immediately understood what his wife meant and went forward to flatter her, saying, "Hey, I understand. I'll have someone prepare the car and we'll go pick up our son together."

It was already three in the afternoon when Xiao Yi woke up from a good sleep. He gave himself a full body wash, then picked up his suitcase and went out feeling refreshed. As soon as he left, he saw two people sitting in the hall. "Mom and Dad? When did you arrive?"

"We just arrived. Have you rested up, son? We're here to pick you up for dinner and then go home together."

Xiao Yi was a little uncomfortable with their enthusiasm, but he quickly got into the story: "Well, is there anything delicious here?"

Xiao's father took the suitcase handle from Xiao Yi's hand and said, "What do you want to eat? Chinese food, T food, Korean food? Japanese food?"

"Chinese food."

"Okay, Chinese food."

Seeing Xiao's father agree so quickly, he had a bad feeling in his heart. But thinking that he had just arrived in Country T and should not encounter any strange things, he saw the table full of dishes and seasonings, and his tense expression told the two people present that their son was very angry.

"So I cooked my first meal in Country T by myself? I was wondering why you asked me to mail so many seasoning packets before I came to Country T. Turns out you were waiting for me here." He looked at the two people huddled at the kitchen door with a forced smile. Their flattering expressions made him so angry that he had no place to vent his anger.

"You know we rarely go back home because of work. There's Chinese food here, but it doesn't taste as good as back home. Since we haven't eaten it in a year, show us your cooking. Besides, Dad has only eaten your cooking twice. Do you have the heart to make him endure it any longer?"

Xiao Yi was moved by Xiao's father's heartfelt performance. It wasn't the content itself that moved him, but rather his conviction that Chinese food abroad was indeed inferior to that back home. But looking at the ingredients on the table, it looked like they couldn't even be finished in a month. Was he trying to tire his son to death? With a cross over his head, Xiao Yi's stomach was scheming, and to avoid further hunger, he suppressed his anger and quickly selected simple and easy-to-make dishes.

Sniffing the freshly scented pork bone soup, Dad Xiao devoured two large bowls of tomato and egg noodles. He leaned back in his chair, his bulging belly in his hands, happily saying, "Sure enough, my son's noodles are the best. I'll have to wait until tonight to drink that huge pot of soup. I have no room left in my stomach."

Xiao Yi finished the last mouthful of noodle soup: "Even if you want to drink it now, you can't. The flavor is just beginning to appear. After stewing for an hour, the aroma will be even more tempting."

He took the bowl of noodles from Xiao's mother and put it in the sink: "I'll give you the bowl."

"If there's a dishwasher, just put it in the dishwasher."

In just a moment, Xiao's mother took out some papers from the study and said, "There are several schools here. We have done some preliminary research. Please decide which one you want to go to so that I can register you in advance."

Xiao Yi took the information and carefully read the introductions of various schools before finally deciding on a secondary school. Xiao's mother looked at the school information her son handed her and asked, "Have you decided on this school?"

"Well, let's go with this one. It's simple and unpretentious, very good."

Although Xiao's mother had some objections to her son's choice of school, she thought that it was okay for her son to adapt first since he had just arrived: "Okay, I'll help you with the admission procedures now." After saying that, she stood up and started making phone calls to arrange the transfer issue, so that she could get him into school as soon as possible.

No matter the country, as long as the funding was in place, everything was greenlit. So, on the first day, he'd secured a school, the next day, he'd received his new uniform, and on the third day, he'd be wearing his new uniform and riding an unknown-brand bicycle to his destination. The schedule was incredibly tight, leaving him no time to adjust to life abroad.

"Classmates, today we have a transfer student from Dragon Country in our class. Welcome everyone."

As the teacher led the applause, some applauded with anticipation, others with disdain, and still others simply to please. But the moment Xiao Yi stepped into the classroom, everyone gasped. It was easy to imagine their expressions filled with a mixture of amazement, envy, and jealousy.

Ignoring those who were beginning to blush and feel shy, as well as the few envious glances, he introduced himself coldly: "Xiao Yi, I'll be happy to teach you in the future." After saying that, he looked at the teacher and said: "Where is my seat?"

Xiao Yi's cold words dispelled the little enthusiasm. The teacher awkwardly pointed to the window seat: "The empty seat over there."

"Thank you."

Murmurs gradually spread from the quiet classroom: "So cool, so handsome, I feel like I'm in love."

"Wow, this is so cool. I think I'm in love with him too."

"Brother, aren't you afraid of having your number bumped?"

"Look at how manly he is, he must be number one."

"That's hard to say. It could also be 0."

"If my partner is him, I don't mind being 0 for love."

"I wonder if he has a girlfriend or boyfriend. I think he must have one since he's so handsome. If not, should I try to sign him up?"

"I thought so too. Let's go ask after class. We agreed that everyone should rely on their own abilities and not do anything behind people's backs."

"Add me one, add me one."

"Ah, here comes this foreign student who is so handsome, is there any way he can survive?"

"Who says it's not? I'm so envious."

"Basically, a large portion of the class has fallen victim to the virus. If this spreads to other classes, the success rate will drop significantly."

"Wow, wow, I envy Sky. I wish he was my deskmate. That way, I could get the best of both worlds."

 …

The discussion gradually grew louder, and the teacher at the podium wrote the title of today's lecture on the blackboard: "Okay everyone, I know the transfer student is very handsome, but we are in class now, so please focus on your studies. What we are going to talk about today is..."

The second the class ended and the teacher left, Xiao's desk was surrounded by people. The chirping sounds around him were like the quacking of chickens and ducks. He could only make out the meaning of a few words from their sentences, such as "handsome".

Yes, he was right, he could tell the difference, and the repetition rate was high. He wasn't being narcissistic. Most importantly, they were speaking too fast for him to react.

"I'm sorry, I know you have a lot of questions to ask me, but unfortunately my T-speak is not very good, so I'm sorry that I can't answer your questions in time." Xiao Yi said this calmly on the translator and then played it for them to hear.

When the people around him saw the translator appear, their brains shrank for a moment, and no matter how many words they had to say, they had to swallow them back. Even the most attractive person is useless without a language barrier, unless someone is willing to learn Chinese for them. Xiao Yi was content with the current situation. No one was around, and there weren't many questions. Besides the occasional glances and snaps, he felt the next semester would be peaceful.

"Hello, I'm Sky."

I responded to my deskmate Xiao Yi: "Hello, I'm Xiao Yi. Just call me Yi, it's more convenient." I did learn some simple conversations, but the tone of voice was a little strange, but it didn't affect the meaning.

My deskmate Sky nodded: "Okay."

He was somewhat surprised that his deskmate was one of the male protagonists in this world, and he lamented his good fortune, never considering that Xiaoti had a hand in this "good luck." For the rest of the day, he was content with his daily routine, not going out of his way to build a close relationship with Xiaoti. After all, as a child starved for love, Xiaoyi worried that if he got too enthusiastic and squeezed out his official partner, he'd be scolded! So, to prevent this from happening, Xiaoyi decided to proceed with a measured approach.

Sky is a gentle and somewhat shy person. Sitting next to him helped Xiao Yi quickly adapt to school life. He was the one who introduced Xiao Yi to the various buildings and escorted him to other classrooms whenever he needed to. In other words, he was the biggest contributor to Xiao Yi's rapid integration. As a result, Xiao Yi and Sky have a closer relationship than other students.
