Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 8: Conspiracy and Love
After the previous incident, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan's life in the valley became more stable. The villagers often sent them local specialties, full of gratitude and respect, and the two of them were immersed in this warm atmosphere.
However, beneath the surface of calm, undercurrents quietly surge. Deep within the imperial court of the capital, a prince who has long coveted Xiao Yi's throne and power learns of his whereabouts. A new conspiracy ignites within him, seeing this as the perfect opportunity to eliminate Xiao Yi and put an end to his future troubles.
The prince secretly dispatched a trusted confidant, disguised as a merchant, to investigate the situation near the valley. The confidant quickly learned the daily movements of Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan and relayed the information back. Upon learning of this, the prince, with a sinister smile on his face, began to meticulously plot a trap.
One day, Li Lingyuan went to the market as usual to buy daily necessities. The market was bustling with people. Suddenly, a child bumped into her, and her belongings fell to the ground. Li Lingyuan quickly squatted down to help pick them up. Just then, a bundle was quietly stuffed into her basket.
Li Lingyuan was completely unaware and returned to the valley after completing her shopping. The confidant, disguised as a merchant, had already been secretly following her. Upon seeing her return to her residence with her bag, he quickly left to pass on the message.
A few days later, a group of soldiers arrived at the valley in a threatening manner. They stormed into Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan's home and surrounded Li Lingyuan. The leading officer said sternly, "Li Lingyuan, you are suspected of stealing imperial treasures. Come with us."
Li Lingyuan looked bewildered. "Sir, you must be mistaken. I have never done such a thing."
Xiao Yi rushed over after hearing the noise. He stood in front of Li Lingyuan and asked, "What are you arresting people on? Do you have any evidence?"
The officer sneered, "Evidence? We found the treasures stolen from the palace in your house. This is the evidence." As he said that, he waved his hand, and a soldier took out the bundle that had been stuffed into Li Lingyuan's basket before. When he opened it, he saw that there was a precious ornament unique to the palace inside.
Li Lingyuan's eyes widened. "This isn't mine. Someone must have framed me."
Xiao Yi's brow furrowed. He knew this was a conspiracy, but the officers and soldiers were acting on orders, and he couldn't forcibly stop it. He looked at the officer and said, "Sir, I believe there is a misunderstanding. I hope you can give me some time and I will investigate it thoroughly."
The officer looked hesitant, but still said, "Your Majesty, I am only following orders. However, for your sake, I can give you three days. If you cannot prove Miss Li's innocence after three days, I will have no choice but to take her away."
Xiao Yi nodded and held Li Lingyuan's hand tightly. "Don't worry, I will find out the truth."
After the soldiers left, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan began to carefully analyze the whole story. They guessed that this must have been done intentionally, and the target was probably Xiao Yi, and Li Lingyuan was just an implicated pawn.
They first thought of the child who bumped into Li Lingyuan at the market and decided to start there. Xiao Yi, relying on his connections, quickly found some clues. It turned out that the child was hired by a mysterious outsider.
Following this clue, they continued to track down and found that the outsider had disappeared without a trace. But Xiao Yi did not give up. He asked around in the local area and finally learned from an innkeeper that the outsider had had contact with a group of people who were suspected to be from the capital.
Xiao Yi had a clue in his mind. He knew that the forces in the capital must be behind this. He decided to go to the capital to investigate in person, while Li Lingyuan stayed in the valley to wait for news.
Xiao Yi rushed to the capital and secretly investigated those who had grudges against him. He soon locked his target on the prince. Through various means, he collected some evidence that the prince was involved in the frame-up, but this evidence was not enough to completely prove Li Lingyuan's innocence.
During his time in the capital, Xiao Yi encountered numerous assassination attempts, but he managed to escape danger time and time again with his superior martial arts and extraordinary wisdom. At the same time, he was also searching for the key evidence that could completely expose the prince's conspiracy.
Meanwhile, Li Lingyuan, back in the valley, was also busy. She continued searching for clues nearby, hoping to provide some assistance to Xiao Yi. One day, she found a strange jade pendant by the stream, engraved with a mark she had never seen before. She suspected it might be related to the plot to frame her, so she kept it and waited for Xiao Yi to return.
The three-day deadline was fast approaching, and Xiao Yi finally found the key evidence. It turned out that when the prince was planning the frame-up, he had exchanged letters with a palace guard captain, detailing the entire plan. Xiao Yi managed to obtain these letters and hurried back to the valley without stopping.
After returning to the valley, Xiao Yi saw the jade pendant that Li Lingyuan had found. He examined it carefully and discovered that it was a token of trust from one of the prince's closest associates. This discovery strengthened their evidence.
When the officers and soldiers returned to the valley, Xiao Yi produced all the evidence and explained the truth to them. The officers and soldiers, realizing they had nearly wronged an innocent man, felt deeply guilty. They immediately submitted the evidence to the court and made the prince's conspiracy public.
When the emperor learned of this, he was furious and ordered the prince to be severely punished. Li Lingyuan was finally cleared of her grievances. She threw herself into Xiao Yi's arms, her tears soaking his clothes. "Xiao Yi, I thought I would never see you again."
Xiao Yi hugged her tightly, "Silly girl, I told you I won't let you get hurt."
