Traveling through thousands of years, I only love you
Chapter 7 Even the paradise has its ups and downs
Through Xiao Yi's report to the emperor, the powerful official finally received the punishment he deserved. With the official's downfall, Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan breathed a sigh of relief. They decided to leave the capital, a place of trouble, and also leave the palace first, to find a quiet place that belonged to them.
On a bright and sunny morning, they packed their simple belongings, mounted their horses, and galloped off into the distance. Along the way, they passed verdant mountains and clear waters, bustling towns, and tranquil villages. Each scene unfolded before their eyes like a painting. Li Lingyuan had never felt so free and happy. She leaned against Xiao Yi's back, feeling the breeze caress her cheeks.
After several days of traveling, they arrived at a valley that felt like a paradise. It was spring-like all year round, with flowers in full bloom. A crystal-clear stream flowed through the valley, and beside it stood a quaint cottage, as if it had been waiting for them for a long time. Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan decided to settle there. They renovated the cottage and cultivated a small field around it, planting vegetables and flowers.
The days passed peacefully. Every morning, Xiao Yi would go fishing by the stream while Li Lingyuan worked in the fields. In the afternoons, they would sit together among the flowers in front of the house, sharing stories. Li Lingyuan would tell Xiao Yi about the world she knew a thousand years later, and Xiao Yi would always listen with rapt attention, his eyes filled with longing for the unknown. In turn, Xiao Yi would tell Li Lingyuan about interesting stories from the palace and his own upbringing. Their relationship grew stronger in these quiet times.
However, the good times didn't last. One day, Li Lingyuan was washing clothes by the stream as usual when she heard the sound of horse hooves. She was startled; since arriving here, no outsiders had ever entered. She stood up and looked in the direction of the hooves. She saw a group of people in strange costumes riding horses towards the valley.
Xiao Yi heard the noise and came out of the house. He protected Li Lingyuan behind him and looked at these uninvited guests with caution. The group stopped in front of them, led by a tall, rugged-looking man. The man looked at Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan, then said in a strange accent, "Who are you? Why are you here?"
Xiao Yi frowned and said, "We are travelers passing through here. We saw the beautiful scenery here and decided to stay here temporarily. Who are you?"
The man sneered and said, "We are from the nearby mountain stronghold. This valley is our territory. You will pay the price for living here without permission."
Li Lingyuan secretly thought that it was not good. She did not expect to encounter such trouble here. She said softly to Xiao Yi, "Xiao Yi, let's not conflict with them. Let's see if we can resolve it peacefully."
Xiao Yi nodded and said to the man, "We have no intention of offending you. What do you want us to do?"
The man looked Li Lingyuan up and down, a hint of greed in his eyes, "Leave this woman here, and you can go."
Xiao Yi's face darkened, "That's absolutely impossible. Don't go too far."
The man laughed, "Too much? In this area of 100 miles, we have the final say. Brothers, go!" As he said that, he waved his hand, and the people behind him rushed towards Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan.
Xiao Yi pushed Li Lingyuan into the house and drew his sword to meet the enemy. His swordsmanship was sharp, and each move was powerful, but the enemy was outnumbered, and Xiao Yi gradually became overwhelmed. Li Lingyuan was extremely anxious in the house, searching for something to help Xiao Yi. Suddenly, she saw a hunting bow and several arrows in the corner.
Li Lingyuan picked up her hunting bow. Although she had never used it before, she didn't care about that at the moment. She pulled the bowstring and shot at the bandits. Her arrows weren't accurate, but they did manage to distract the bandits. Xiao Yi took advantage of the opportunity to attack and repel several of the bandits.
But the leading man took advantage of Xiao Yi's distraction and stabbed him with a sword. Xiao Yi couldn't dodge in time and was scratched on the shoulder. Li Lingyuan was extremely anxious when she saw Xiao Yi injured. She rushed out with a hunting bow and shouted at the man, "Let him go!"
The man saw Li Lingyuan and said with a smile, "Young lady, you'd better come with us." As he said that, he walked towards Li Lingyuan.
At this moment, a horn sounded suddenly from a distance. The man's face changed, "Oh no, the soldiers are coming, brothers, retreat!" After that, they mounted their horses and fled in panic.
Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan breathed a sigh of relief. They didn't know why the soldiers had come here, but fortunately they had escaped. Xiao Yi was seriously injured, and Li Lingyuan helped him back into the house and bandaged his wounds.
"Xiao Yi, how are you? It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't be hurt." Tears flashed in Li Lingyuan's eyes.
Xiao Yi smiled slightly, "Silly boy, don't blame yourself, as long as you are okay. It seems that we can't have peace here either, we have to think of a way."
Li Lingyuan nodded. She knew they had to protect their little world and not let anyone disrupt their peaceful life. But the bandits and the sudden appearance of soldiers and officers made their future full of uncertainty again.
In the following days, Xiao Yi's injuries gradually improved. They strengthened the defenses around the hut, setting up some traps and alarms. At the same time, they also began to inquire about the bandits and soldiers, trying to find out their origins and purpose.
After some investigation, they learned that the robbers were bandits from the nearby mountains who often burned, killed and looted in the area. The officers and soldiers came to suppress the bandits, but because the bandits were familiar with the terrain, they had not been able to wipe them out.
Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan decided that they would help the soldiers to eliminate these bandits, which would not only restore peace to the valley but also protect their own lives. They began to contact the soldiers and, with Xiao Yi's wisdom and military experience, developed a detailed plan for them to eliminate the bandits.
On a dark and windy night, the bandit suppression operation officially began. Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan also participated in it. They led the officers and soldiers to quietly sneak into the bandit's stronghold. After a fierce battle, the bandits were caught off guard and most of them were eliminated, with only a few escaping.
This bandit suppression operation made Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan local heroes, earning them immense gratitude from the officers and soldiers and accolades from the locals. The valley returned to its former tranquility, and Xiao Yi and Li Lingyuan continued their rural life. However, they knew that in this world, there is no absolute peace, and only by relying on each other can they face all the unknown challenges.
